Wow. I just finished the last episode. What a beautiful and unforgettable journey watching this show/story unfold from start to finish. The emotions and takeaways from this show are countless. I absolutely loved watching this trio, both character wise and and actor wise. So many emotions felt after watching that last episode, what a freaking journey. This show truly captures that rare, HUMBLING heroic martial artist sense of fighting for good and justice, while taking us on a journey of healing and redemption/second chances. Truly an inspiring work that I highly recommend for everyone to give it a try/watch. Literally everything about this show: cast, story, music, pacing, cinematography, fighting/martial arts scenes, etc., are PERFECT. Phenomenal performances and overall rollout from the whole crew/team who made this all possible, thank you <3 Will go down lovingly as a C-drama classic for its masterpiece.
AND I MUST GIVE OUR BOY CHENG YI A SHOUTOUT. Although I first watched Cheng Yi in "Noble Aspirations", it wasn't until I watched him in "Love and Redemption" when he became one of my top favorite actors because he really is a superb actor. His eyes holds so much emotion and tells also so much, just from a single stare. AND HE DELIVERS IN THIS SHOW. The entire cast really put on an amazing, commendable performance, BUT CHENG YI. His performance was truly phenomenal, moving, mesmerizing, and convincing. CHENG YI IS LI LAN HUA/ LI XIANG YI. Cheng Yi was THE perfect choice and he can single handedly carry the show IMO. Always look forward to shows with Cheng Yi, and I hope that for him and everyone else from this show can continue to grow their careers and shine brightly!!
Fully agree with this 100%!! Not sure if it's the screenwriting or if this is the case in the actual original…
Aww well I'm glad you've gotten more into Chinese dramas! I've been watching for a long time and while there are definitely some really good/masterpiece-level that are older/way back, overall Chinese dramas have DEFINITELY overall improved/way better :) very happy to see the growth.
And so cute!! I too recently bought a hanfu to wear sometime later and probably will invest in more! Where do you plan on shopping from for the hanfus?
Fully agree with this 100%!! Not sure if it's the screenwriting or if this is the case in the actual original…
Yeah same!! I just love xianxia too much that I'll still watch most shows from that genre even if it's not the best. But this is also my first time watching Jeremy Tsui and he's goooood, he has charisma and piercing expressions/looks. I've seen him in other dramas and thought he was really handsome but was just never interested in the other shows he was in UNTIL watching him in this show. I started watching The Autumn Ballad for him (his voice is SOOO NICEEEE and sexy LOL) while I wait for more episodes to come out.
Have either of you watched The Journey of Flower? It's the one with Zhao Li Ying and Wallace Chuo, and it's a similar story to this show. I love Zhao Li Ying but I prefer this show more but it's mostly due to the better CGI, beautiful sets, better music, and Jeremy Tsui LOL.
‼ Spoiler ‼I love this series but I unfortunately find chonz zi very childish no matter what life she's living...Ofc…
Fully agree with this 100%!! Not sure if it's the screenwriting or if this is the case in the actual original novel, but was quite frustrated/annoyed by her recent decisions/thoughts :( I too thought she was more sensible and mature this time around.
Also quite a few of the other characters bug me by how they still continue to act the same way and go unpunished (Miaoyuan, Ting Xue, Zhou Han, and Councilor especially). LIKE HELLO??? How are they allowed to still act like that?? You would think after all this time, they would idk grow tf up? Again not sure if this is the drama adaptation's fault or the original novel but it's really getting on my nerves. BUT I'm a huge sucker for Xianxia and at this point I'm just watching for Jeremy Tsui's amazing acting as Luo Yin Fan, and to see him parading around like a snack in heavenly garb wear. Also I have been enjoying Yang Chao Yue as Chong Zi (think she fits the character really well) but I can't wait for her to turn into a powerful bad ass and stand up for herself please.
Mainly watching for our boy Chen Xing Xu because he is an AMAZING actor. His role/acting in Goodbye My Princess was phenomenal and left a deep impression on me. Been waiting for a veryyyyy long time for him to come back to a costume drama AND it's a xianxia one!!! Really looking forward to seeing him here. So far I've enjoyed the first episode and I am SUPERRRRR excited to watch more!!!! ALSO THE OST IN THIS SHOW IS FIREEEEE!!!
I absolutely LOVED him from Goodbye My Princess. Him and the Peng Xiao Ran (main leads from that show) left a DEEP impression on me, they were phenomenal actors. I've been waiting sooo long for Chen Xing Xu to return to a costume drama, let alone a xianxia dram too!!! I am SO SO excited for him and to watch him.
HAPPY ENDING SUPER CUTE SUPER FUNNY DRAMA. LOVE IT. SIDE COUPLES TOO! THE ENDING OMG IS THERE GONNA BE A SECOND…
EXACTLY HOW I FEEL!!! I TOO WAS WONDERING IF THE ENDING MEANT THERE WOULD BE SEASON 2 CUZ OF THE POST-CREDIT SCENES :D I REALLY HOPE SO CUZ I LOVED THIS DRAMA!!
UPDATE: THIS SHOW GETS BETTER AND BETTER WITH EVERY PASSING EPISODE. I am pleasantly surprised by how incredibly cute, tender and good feely this show can get!! But I also have a gut wrenching feeling/worry for the future of this story! I AM HOOKED AND VERY EAGER FOR EACH NEW EPISODE TO COME OUT. Definitely give this show a chance, you won't regret it!!
I just wanted to say, I feel like this show gets better and better with each passing episode!!! I AM HOOKED!!!! I actually am really liking the main couple/main leads relationship and development!! Also really digging the alternations between serious and comedic tones/twists. Look forward to more episodes!!!
Hi! Thank you for the amazing in-depth review and insight!!! I didn't realize the drama was cut down so much until mid-way, and now it totally makes sense as it definitely feels like a lot of content is missing and the editing is off for sure. Super curious, do you happen to know what content was cut out due to censorship?? Or what the scandal was? Felt like this show could have been amazing and definitely sucks/unfortunate that we lost so much good content :( just trying to understand the background/context.
Have you watched his movie Animal World? I accidentally come across it on Netflix but then I saw there will be…
!!! I haven't watched it yet, didn't realize it was on Netflix!! Going to watch it now. Were they going to make a TV show or another movie for the sequel?
I'll watch it and let you know how it goes :) I too like to binge watch the full story
Personally consider Li Yi Feng to be one of the top male actors too. Although his new drama (Mirror Twin Cities) just finished airing :( and I'm already waiting for his next drama to come out!! Hopefully we get another drama this year
Su Mo expressions is to die for. I love how he talks with his eyes. I have rewatched their scenes like 4-5x. The…
Damn, modern crime dramas as good but I wish you do more costume dramas too.
I first watched him in Swords of Legends and he was lead amongst a very diverse and successful cast today. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM AND YANGZI AS A MAIN PAIR!!

SAMEEEEEE I'm a big fan of costume dramas so I'm biased and would love / wish to see Li Yi Feng in more xianxia or even wuxia drams :') and yes he looks sooo good in them. I pray we get another one sooner than later
