I actually am leaning towards this thought too!!! A lot of the cdramas I was more eagerly waiting for... left much to be desired. Initially I wasn't as invested in this one until I saw the trailer and felt there was potential... plus I've always loved/enjoyed Li Qin's acting (and face card sheeesh), AND I THINK THIS ONE IS FULLY DELIVERING SO FAR!!! So far been either impressed or feeling good, not let down/no significant glaring problems or questionable stuff YET. I'm glad I'm liking the main couple's chemistry as much as I had hoped for from the trailer.

I’d agree with that reasoning too, she grew up under a completely different kind of care, discipline, and environment, shaped by societal standards that likely influenced her outlook and mindset. Being raised under the Empress’s care probably either shielded her or instilled a tendency toward more scheming behavior

Ahhhh OMG I love how you brought up Joy of Life!!! Cuz I LOVE JOY OF LIFE! AND I think you make a great comparison as I would agree!!!! I love how deep down, the emperor cares... but does his due diligence to be fair and silently look out for them.

Just want to say, I am thoroughly enjoying this drama so far!! I think Li Qin is slaying in the acting field as always, she never disappoints!!! Believable female general/warrior demeaner and pretty fire chemistry from my POV. Happy that the show is delivering so far, can't wait for more episodes!!! EAGER FOR MORE AH!!!!

Noooooooo why does this drama continue to drop in ratings when it’s actually quite good and it just keeps getting better and better :(( this drama is a gem and a beautiful slow burner. What is wrong with taking its time with developing the very clearly, blossoming romance and attraction to each other!! This show definitely deserves a higher score. I am eating up every moment y’all 😍 I think it’s a gonna be a sleeper hit

I love their relationship dynamic too, nothing is forced, everything feels very organic, natural, and pure about their relationships and feelings. They're both looking out for each other but never say it upfront. I just enjoy every moment and scene with them, can't wait for more!!!! I feel like this is a show that gets more and more hype as their story continues to develop in future episodes.

I actually cry pretty easily BAHAHAA but I give the show my 100% attention and investment. I think this will be a beautiful, bittersweet tale that honestly I'm not ready for but also very ready for!!!!

I 100% agree with you! I'm absolutely in love with Joseph's song in this show—he sounds amazing! His voice reminds me of Mao Buyi's, especially when he first starts singing. And yes, I’m totally here for this slow burn, slow burn done right/well!!! It’s so beautiful and pure as it unfolds. The more it develops, the more attached I get, and I just know it’s going to feel SO good, but also T_T. The soft chemistry between them is so sweet, and watching it unfold is such a beautiful journey.

Hello! I just want to say I am absolutely obsessed with this show, the slow burn but definitely developing romance and chemistry between the leads, AND Zeng Shun Xi (loving everyone else too but had to shout out the leading man!!) He looks SOOOOO FREAKING HANDSOME, beautiful, ethereal, charming, and GREEN FLAGS ALL AROUND in this show!!! ZSX/Huo Zhan Bai makes me believe that chivalry is not dead/hot and being a gentleman is hot AF

Thank you so much for writing out this amazingly thorough breakout and recap!!! Joy of Life S1 & S2 are some of my most favorite, top/highly regarded Cdramas to this date. One of the best and a masterpiece/classic. Eagerly waiting for S3!!!

Bahahaha YES! I 100% respect that, as a fellow Cdrama watcher/fan, ya gotta cover all the major streaming platforms! I also subscribe to most of them except Youku (here and there if there is a show I need access too XD)

I've also been watching/about to finish that drama. Personally IMO it's not bad and solid, it has its moments. I found some parts to drag and but then there are some very sweet/eyes feasting moments. NGL I have to agree with most watchers in the community, but mainly watching Ding Yu Xi/Ryan Ding in the show is a TREAT/DELIGHT 😂 He looks SOOOO good in it, feels like he's bulked up a bit compared to his previous shows. Just my two cents on the show!
