I thoroughly enjoyed this drama and watched the Donghua while waiting for the live action to release. The one thing that bothered me is ep40 where they have completely skipped the fact of XW's mum and her background! That should have been the most touching scene when BBD killed her mum. Hence the fact she's not running away from the past like she did before and face BBD. It was meant to be a touching moment for XW and TS. ......

I get what you mean, XW said she can be his family member and TS said he wanted a sister. I don't think it is exactly "sworn siblings" but just a term I got from it (as being Chinese). Thus the fact that TS thinks his father has abandoned him, XW thought she would stay by his side and be supportive as a"sister". The fact that it develops into a romance, i'm guessing is from the tough experiences they have faced together through the years- they realise that they are each others important people. That's the idea I got from the donghua. I would agree alot of subs are lost in translation hence some may feel unease about the concept.

I agree with one of the replies here, the term "ge" is generally a term or title for someone you are close to. That being said, in many Chinese dramas, the term is commonly used. In Wuxia type dramas, there are many senior sisters, senior brothers disciples and masters relationships which develops into romance. Re: XW, I like her character & it is exactly how the manga, donghua portrays her, i would say she's definitely not a dumb FL. She has her past of her mother killed, which it isn't easy at all. So it's understandable why she wouldn't want others to feel sad and is able to cheer TS up. Thus this is a fantasy drama in ancient era lol. It's not meant to be realistic in many aspects i.e your foster brother (which is current modern world. )
I think I prefer this version. In 2019 version there were alot of points that could be said that didn't match with the novel and didn't do the novel justice. I'm no judge but there are really bad CG in 2019 and for example Ge bi was described in the book to be in par appearance wise Huai Nam but that didn't do it for me in the previous version. In this version, they changed the production team, in China, the 2019 version was a shocking 6.5 I think. So I'm not sure if this is reason why there is a remake or to make it up to the author of the book. This is all IMO and facts I've read.

I also disagree, I think GXT does an excellent job at being bossy, high ego, beautiful and intelligent FL. I see why you would say ZLS would suit, but I can't see her acting a bossy egotistical lol. She's alot more quirky in rom com. GXT and NH is a great pair.
There's a lot of changes from the CN version in this KR remake!. The thing that bothers me the most is the ML....he looks like a kid lol. HuYitian is really tall, plus he can pass for the teenager transition to adulthood. Imo Ahn Hyo Seop would be quite a good choice, I think he would pass for the cold teenager and a nice transition to adulthood and he is tall. I'm not sure on the FL either, there's alot of cringeness on her part.
