The female lead's character is tastefully written. There are many Chinese dramas where the FL is unbearably innocent, naive, and dumb, and she becomes very annoying. Cheng Ruo Yu is naive due to how she was brought up, but it was never to the extent where I thought she was stupid. It was realistically written, and you can see her character development very clearly. I also love that she has a calm character, where other female leads would overact in many of the situations presented in the show.
The actress' acting isn't the best, but you can see that she has improved a lot from previous works, and she seems to be working really hard, so I can respect that.
Lastly, this is an excellent political drama, with a well-written plot. It's way too much to critique it so harshly based on the VERY few romantic scenes or because you don't like the FL. The romance is not the central focus of the drama.
