Not to spit on the current historical productions, which are generally very similar in script and artistic terms but fall into Sword into Plowshares was a really good surprise.
Indeed, finding such a well-made historical political drama is so rare these days. And It's been so long since I've watched this type of show knowing it was this kind of story that made me love historical cdramas.
Although I had not read the synopsis, I nevertheless knew that it was an epic series like we don't have anymore. And if like me you're a fan of old dramas like The Empress of China, Three Kingdoms and Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, then you're gonna love this one. The first episode alone is already a call for curiosity, in addition to the fact that it is based on historical events. Moreover, the majority of the actors in this drama are veterans who have always been in serious political dramas so I went headlong watching them appear one after another especially Ni Da Hong, HE is a sure value of the quality of a scenario. When I see his name, I don't think about anything and just watch.
So I invite you to do the same, be curious and go for it!
So I watched the first nine episodes of one stroke and oh how pleasantly surprised I am. For the little anecdote I read this novel and Are you the One's long before these dramas were produced. I had a lot of expectations for Are You The One who didn't live up to my expectations when it was the novel I liked best between the two because I found the second one very juvenile. The writing style gave the impression that it was a teenage girl who wrote it and didn't know what exactly a love experience is. So yes, I didn't have any expectations at all, but the drama managed to improve the quality of writing by making a rather mature script with very attractive characters with very good chemistry. In order not to suffer, I'll wait until it's over and binge watches it with delight.
So far I've not liked any of this actress's shows, yet I know she's a really good actress and she's demonstrated it in Sky Castle. Anyway, I hope this time is the right one for me.
This drama does not live up to a revenge story. Heroin has no judgment but to seduce and it's quite repetitive. For someone who's been working on her plan for 15 years, it's pretty quick look like a wet firecracker. I wasn't asking for a revengeful quality story like The Glory or Money Flower but just a little effort in the execution, I guess it was too much to ask, and in the end it gave you a mediocre lakorn where the heroine didn't live up to her hatred.
Besides, jail for the show's stylist, if it was the same person who managed everyone's wardrobe, explained to me what was the problem he had with the heroin!? This guy dressed everyone properly except for the heroin, while the hero was always very neat and relaxed. Her wardrobe was quite vulgar, the goal was to make her a sexy girl, not a professional mmm. Her style would have been tolerable on teenagers because we all know that at that age we think being sexy is wearing a micro skirt.
This whole story is really sad because I read articles and comments and I realize that no one is questioning themselves. A person committed suicide instead of trying to figure out the why and how! And find ways that this type of situation no longer happens, everyone exploits this story for purposes that are not always praiseworthy. Everyone is guilty in this story, the parents who let their minor child go out with an adult, the victim who made a mistake and paid a high price, the media, the pseudo fans and all those who have a phone and give themselves the right to harass a human being on the pretext that we don't know them personally, The adult who didn't feel sorry for his ex and turned his back on her at the worst moment of her life. Everyone is guilty!!!
I often try as much as possible to stay away from this type of story and not comment on them because my profession has taught me that people's private lives should never become a mockery for others. The truth, the real truth, no one will ever really know.
He is competent at work though showing his age. But he also never got to be a kid, so they needed someone that…
It's not a question of skills or anything like that. I understand the psychology of the character perfectly, we know that he's a child in an adult body. It's literally the visual that is lacking for me, it can be seen that he is biologically in his early twenties. So it's not easy to take him seriously as a CEO when he looks more like a student. I'll give you an example to better explain my point, the main actor of Cdrama The Double biologically exults in a certain maturity. So when I found out how old he was in real life I was quite surprised because for me he was older, but I guess the make-up played a big part in it. On the other hand, Zhang Wan Yi from Are you the one had the opposite effect on me. I had a lot of trouble seeing him as a Grand Military General, because in addition I had read the novel on which the drama is based, So I knew perfectly well the physical and psychological description of the character. And because of his Babyface , He has more of a Prince Charming head than a Ruthless general. it was hard for me to be concentrate. I learned that he was in his thirties, wow!. Good for him.
Nothing new under the sun but this drama can be watched, it's cute. I have a lot of trouble with ML though, because I have too much trouble taking him seriously. He's definitely a good actor, that's not the debate here. But the guy looks barely 20 years old and not 30 as the drama wants him to be and on top of that he's literally a junior version of Lee Young Joon from WWWSK. Everything is there, the facial expressions, the gestures, everything! It can be seen that the actor was inspired a lot by it for his own role, it's commendable but not very original unfortunately.
It looks like 2025 is the year of the romantic comedy in kdrama world. Just this week I read at least 5 news of this type... I have a preference for thrillers for sure but hey I'm not closed to romance as long as it's well done.
This drama deserves to be recognized. All the episodes bring their share of emotions and do not leave you indifferent. So congratulations to the whole team, they made me cry, laugh and think.
To this day I have not yet found a drama by this writer that has marked me so it is not surprising that this one leaves me quite the same way the others did. Unlike many here, I won't go so far as to say that it's mediocre, I think that deep down it can be watched without much interest but it's okay. The script is shaky and all over the place, but I wonder if that wasn't exactly the goal. The characters on the other hand are not detestable I find them as annoying as most humans, greedy, arrogant, cheater and sometimes naïve. For the time being, if I had to rate this drama, I would rate it 3.5/10. So we'll see if I have the strength to continue and if eventually my opinion will change.
Since the broadcast of the 1st episode and compared to all the other dramas broadcast in the last 4 months, this one is the best written. It's certainly a classic scenario, but the story is so well told that we become obsessed with it. And the characters are all endearing, none of them leaves us indifferent, both the good and the bad. It's easy to see why ratings are so good in Korea, compared to other dramas like When The Stars Gossip. Anyway, it promises a grandiose finale. 🎉
This 2nd season was a Bad good idea like all the 2nd seasons of kdrama (except Kingdom), so obviously it was mediocre but I still give it a good point for Sung Joon. Who used to leave me unmoved, but since his military training, he has really improved. He was handsome and classy. Anyway, I say bravo to the actors but the story was to be thrown in the trash. I'm already thinking about all those shows that will have extra seasons next year and that will also disappoint. Too bad!
I don't know about you, but the kdrama created exclusively by Netflix have mostly never appealed me. I'm talking about series like this one or squid games, or Kingdom and not those for which they are the international broadcaster like QoT, CLOY, Stranger etc... I often find them very badly written and it's a shame. A touch is often missing, I can't say what, but something is often missing. And this drama was no exception, everything was badly done from my point of view, very blah script. With the exception of Kingdom, The Glory and maybe Hate to Love You, the rest has always been a disappointment despite the finances and the huge castings. Unlike Disney which for me has improved a lot in its original content, just look at A shop for a Killer, Moving, May it please the court or even the recent Gangnam B side, all these dramas that are created exclusively by Disney have more substance than those created by Netflix. It just goes to show that it's not the most popular that is necessarily the most beautiful.
