This show was entertaining, it had beautifully sexy people, the storyline was pretty simple and the chemistry was palpable. There are haters and i understand that it may be cringe

But cringe doesn't mean its terrible. It means it's cringe and sometimes all we need is cringe. I recommend good cringe as a friday night binge with no expectations and good vibes. You'll enjoy it

I think they sort of used him to justify punishing her

If he'd gone dark and gotten revenge
The writers would have made her win the game and that would have defeated the whole plot of her being a villian it would have made her an anti hero instead, like a matyr fighting against those trying to destroy her and people would forget that she's the perpetrator just like the issue with her husband.

I like that the cafe owner left unburdened by her crap and still got vindicated in the end

2. Is her traumatic past an excuse to justify her behavior?
3. Or was it really all the fuel she needed to get to all she ever wanted
4. Was she always supposed to act this way and her circumstances just determine the pace?

Suffering is not an olympic sport. She will not get a medal because you feel like she's earned the right to behave the way she has just because of her circumstances. Other characters suffered as well. A lot of them caused by her.

Just because she's suffered doesn't negate the other bs she's done.

1. I completely agreed that her leaving disfigured would have been the perfect punishment for her. It would have been Shakespearean in a well. Her ugly nature brought to the surface limping and disfigured. Now I'm curious to read the webtoon

2. I sometimes wondered whether jae oh was also suffering from some sort of ptsd. With the history of abuse from his dad, being sent to prison. I wondered if he had psychological issues the writers didn't explore. It's so jarring seeing a some what normal, well rounded, optimistic person that he protrayed to be just choosing to be so dark on her command.
Whenever she wasn't around him it waa like his life lack meaning or reason and his existence purely to serve him. Was he just really loyal or there is something else underneath the surface in plain sight

3. I also do think shes a victim. She's a victim that evolved to be an abuser as well. And in thst same vein when abusers commit evil we don't try to understand their motivations we see their actions for what they are

So why are we more sympathetic towards her. Not me tho. But generally are we more sympathetic because she looks like the classic " damsel in distress" are we justifying her actions because of her beauty? But not her character

4. A good angle that her parents genetics played a path. 2 narcissists having a child.

But there's the flaw in your thinking. I never said she was lucky.

I said she is a victim of a system society created and she happily took advantage of. She has always believed she was better than the system and so thought Suffering was benneath her. But she has always suffered. From her mother, to her dad, to jun seo's mum to all the people around her. Suffering is part of her story. Her desperation to escape doesn't make her different from anybody facing difficulties wanting to escape

I can understand survival mode. But every other person she's used have also suffered. They faced their own consequences
Her insistence on thinking she could outrun her past, to change her story while doing the awful things she's done and thinking she'd somehow have it better . When in truth she's stuck in a loop of her own design

All in all i think this drama shoule evoke some discussion points.
1. Would she have gotten this far without her beauty?
2. Do you think jae oh really believed he loved her or was it the idea of what he believed she could be?
3. The men in her life and their insistence in owning her in one shape or form. Like her dad wanting to sell her, In kang wanting to marry her, jun seo wanting to change her, jae oh wanting her to constantly be in his orbit, moon do hyuk wanting a pretty doll to play with.

Is she a strategist or a victim of a system that encourages the exploitation of women?

4. Does her dependency on the male saviour complex help her or hastened her doom

I keep thinking about the comment that said. Baek ah jin is not the master strategist you think she is. She's just a pretty girl with a mental illness that thinks she is better than the program. Almost all her plans failed in execution and she constantly needed saving.

All the luck that kept coming her way wasnt due to some master plan. She reacted based on survival mode and others had to constantly come in to save her. Men needed to save her. A victim of the system created by her? Society?
The tantrum she threw in the church in jae oh's arms explained that she thinks she's above suffering cos she's special. She is not special. Beauty and brains can only get you so far in this terrible world that is designed to break us all. All human suffer whop whop her crying cos life is so unfair.

I keep recalling how jun seo had nearly gone to jail...trying to take the fall for her dad's death. It made sense it'd end that way. He's always tried to save her in expense of his and jaeoh's life. Like how's it been their whole relationship. He refused to break the chain.

Idk maybe this is her final punishment. She's a sociopath. So she doesn't care he died but now she doesn't have a steady anchor to cling on to. So like a succubus she finds somebody else to leech off of and the cycle continues.
