idk which director it is and ive seen this in the drama 'silent' also but im curious what others think about the…
I also think the acting in this is pretty slow, I’ve watched other works of Meguro Ren and Arimura Kasumi and their acting is not always this slow. I think it’s more of the script, like when the writer wrote “…*lines*…” they have to try to deliver their lines in that style too. Plus the character of Natsu is purposely depicted as slow thinker, not very determinative, often waiting for others to take actions rather than himself. I think this is a way they want to demonstrate his character growth since in later episodes he slowly get a little quicker in response.
I am new to Japanese dramas (this is my first one). I have two comments so far, would love if someone can bring…
Minato know the exact moment Tsumugi fell in love with Sou, 8 years later, he see Tsumugi and Sou stand together again and felt like they are still attracted to each others even tho Tsumugi denied it. Like I said below, when he repeat to Tsumugi a sentence he learned from Sou, other people would find it annoying but she expresses how much she like that part of Minato (but actually it’s Sou’s words that Tsumugi really like). Their relationship always have a shadow of Sou, even if Sou never came back to their lives, Minato would still cannot endure it and break up with Tsumugi. And since he felt that Tsumugi and Sou would possibly realize their feelings with each others again, he want to be the one to stop them from becoming a bad person.
Agree, he really is the one who hard carried the chemistry. He doesnt need to say anything and yet just by his…
Meguro can have chemistry with anyone regardless of gender, his acting raise that chemistry up to another level so I thank him for that or else it would be hard for me to follow the story. Hopefully his next drama can give his acting talent justice with more screen time. He’s from Johnnys so I’m sure he will get many offers, not to mention his other movies as lead roles are all high budget with famous casts.
Meguro Ren better win big awards because he’s killing it every time the center stage is on Sou. I only cry whenever it’s his scenes and he know how to act devastatingly sad to genuinely happy. The sweet looks he gives to Tsumugi hard carried 80% of their chemistry, this type of loveline will not work if it was given to a bad actor I can guarantee
I like the actress who is playing the character tsumugi. Seen her other works as well but here, tsumugi is missing…
I think Tsumugi’s character setting is built more like an asadora female lead which most Japanese audience like. Being optimistic and straightforward, vague expression on romance side but more serious towards putting on an action to overcome a challenge after being inspired by others. But for me, I really actually believe that Tsumugi loves Sou from the very bottom of her heart from the beginning to now. Whatever she likes have Sou’s involvement in it and even things she thought she like from Minato was actually came to be connected with Sou. I don’t think she’s always relief when she’s with Sou tho, she’s often more shy and more sensitive towards his feelings. Compare to when she’s being very relax when being with Minato, which might be because they are childhood friend, Tsumugi show more obvious trait that her heart is more shaken when being with Sou (she acts more cute whenever she’s with him tbh)
In ep 1, Minato said to Tsumugi, “The sky is sunny when the moon is up”. Tsumugi said she like that part of him but it is revealed in ep 9 that Minato got those words from Sou who always say the sky is sunny when there’s a moon at night.
Minato and Tsumugi’s relationship has always have the shadow of Sou. Tsumugi unknowingly like everything of Sou and Minato was the only one noticed it: Spitz, corn soup drink, and the phase “the sky is sunny when the moon is up”.
The very first sign language that Nana taught Sou is “the same” which ultimately saved him through his darkest time. Yet now, she became the person who’s differentiating him from others. Love can be selfless like Minato and selfish like Nana, but both hurts others deeply.
I am just seeing these characters as is and not sympathizing because they are deaf or normal...IDK, but my take…
Sou’s job is a proofreader working from home, it is shown in ep 2 I think. And yes, Ren’s voice is very sexy, i just watched this vid abt his other movie and almost faint when heard him talking on the mic https://youtu.be/BV5Fq5xMPa0
No wonder in silent, Tsumugi fell hard for his voice cuz i would too XD
This. I have said this before, sou's backstory is getting shifted for the sake of romance. what sold me to this…
Right? And whenever it turn towards the scene between Sou and his family, everything becomes calm and nice again, I love every of his family members. I want to see more of them, how they started to learn sign language to speak with him. Sadly, they only appeared for a few minutes, Minato’s parts is dragged from him with Tsumugi, Sou, Hikaru, the sign language teacher, and his other friends. It feels as if Minato has became the main character, I had to look back at the poster again to make sure if the writer is being for real here. I need to see more of how Sou even began to learn sign language in the first place and how hard it was for him…I don’t want such character go to waste, he was literally the reason I watch this drama in the first place with Tsumugi
I think the writer is putting too much into Minato, now it looks like his story even outshined the leads. This is more about his journey to heal from losing his best friend and now losing his love…hopefully everything will go back on track after ep.5, I wanna know more about Sou, we literally don’t get to see much about what he’s been through around 3 years after him losing all his hearing and how him and his family cope with it.
okok, hear me outi don't think what Minato did was that selfless, i mean it was! but there are some more things…
It’s my overall opinion? Lmao, and I did said “unintentional” didn’t I? He might mean that but as someone who’s life changed drastically bc some event, these words sound like ignorance. And I’m not the only one mad at Minato here. This is not a soft drama anymore when the writer make it end the way it ends in ep 4. I still like the drama tho, I have the right to hate a character when I think the character’s action is dumb. My opinion can even change after the next episode. This is a discussion site…I can’t discuss? You can disagree, but my opinion still holds.
Whatever Minato do to me is annoying now UGH…the way how he constantly making Sou having to repeat to him that the dude is freaking deaf!!! And the so called “sacrifice” is utterly looking down at both Tsumugi and Sou. I can understand that Sou was going thru a lot with his hearing impairments as a young adult, breaking up with Tsumugi was a bad choice but it’s understandable. But Minato have no excuse for acting like a lil bitch at age 26, breaking up with Tsumugi just bc he feels insecure even tho she constantly reassured him about her love towards him. Just like I said before, Minato is the representation of ableism in this drama, even if it’s unintentional. “You are just deaf, nothing else about you changed.” DUDE ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Fuck off pls. I doubt neither Tsumugi or Sou appreciate this guy for doing such useless thing. And looking at the next episode trailer, the atmosphere between Tsumugi and Sou also got hecka awkward. Go Minato, way to ruin everything for everyone just bc you are insecure.
While ep 1-2 is more into words details, ep 3 is more into mis-en-scene, as of now, I can tell that Tsumugi have feelings for Minato but it is as if it is a small opening for someone that finally gives her sense of security and kindness after a long time. But their relationship is still separated by an invisible wall like I said before. With this ep, the wall becomes more visible to us viewers like how they can’t communicate through glass window or when Minato saw Tsumugi and Sou, the railroad track block between him and Tsumugi with a sounding alarm telling us that the wall between them is becoming more and more harder to get through. Honestly I think now it’s really up to the writer if they wants to pave the way for Tsumugi and Sou to get back together or trying to find ways to break the wall between Tsumugi and Minato. anyways , Sou is still very much an innocent puppy but he’s in a very uncomfortable position between Tsumugi and Minato. I feel really bad for him when Tsumugi straight up pours cold words into him at the cafe…he literally don’t want to interrupt other’s relationship and even suggest that they shouldn’t see each other anymore, especially when he definitely still very much love Tsumugi…being in a friend relationship with Tsumugi and Minato will be unfair and hard for him. Tsumugi on the other hand, want to stay in touch maybe because deep inside her heart, she still loves Sou and is afraid of losing the sight of him again like the last 8 years. But she can’t just give up on Minato just because of this unclear feelings so she want to make this relationship with Sou as appropriate as possible…idk, kinda selfish. Love triangle is really not my thing especially when the three characters are good friends…hopefully it will resolve faster because I don’t think i have enough tears for next 8 episodes
I’m really glad this drama got huge amount of attention, even without much promotions like from Netflix lol My friend who is in japan said all her colleagues talk about it whenever they eat lunch, even invite sleepover to watch it in real time 😂 another friend of mine is in china, she said it’s also very popular in china and all her friends posts their reaction to the new episode, they said they lost weight thanks to it hahaha
My friend is in Japan rn, she said he’s just average in popularity. Real popular Johnnys idol is Hirano Sho from King&Prince who is popular even before he was debuted. Meguro was pretty much what u called a nobody until he join Snowman and debut with them. But thanks to the drama and his awesome acting, he’s very popular now. He also going to have a role in asadora and 2 more movies to be release soon, I say this is the beginning of his breakthrough era. I can see he will reach to the very top soon because he’s very hardworking and have a very clean background.
I had some sympathy for Minato in ep. 1, but he's really getting on my nerves with his stupid mind games in ep.…
I agree that I felt empathy with Minato at first too but I think he might be a character who will be representing the ableism towards Sou. Like in the first episode, he was called out by the sign-language teacher abt thinking that most people who works with disabled people are “generous” people. Then in the second episode, when he told his friend about Sou’s condition, the friend straight up said that Tsumugi wouldn’t be with a disabled person…and he said nothing, I think the friend speaks his mind or at least in his favor. Minato’s social status is now much more higher than Sou, he works in a company and lives in a nice house. Meanwhile Sou is becoming anti-social, working just as a proofreader and living in a small place. When choosing who to married, most of people around Tsumugi would just tell her to marry Minato cuz he’s normal and have a good future. Everything around going to Minato would just be like “he’s nice, he’s in perfect shape and health, he have a future” so if Tsumugi truly end up with Minato, it’ll become not as meaningful cuz healthy people marry healthy people and disabled people have no chance?
Minato and Tsumugi’s relationship has always have the shadow of Sou. Tsumugi unknowingly like everything of Sou and Minato was the only one noticed it: Spitz, corn soup drink, and the phase “the sky is sunny when the moon is up”.
Now I get it…
No wonder in silent, Tsumugi fell hard for his voice cuz i would too XD
