not really. thats the ideal king. one who thinks only and only of his kingdom. his king only cares about himself. he wants to keep his throne to himself and die on it, he hates when someone even comes close to surpassing him. he doesnt care about chang and hates lanxi for having 1. better origins than him. 2. more accomplished than him. he loves ju since he always depends on his father and mother's love. and hes obviously blinded by love. wouldnt be surprised if he was 100% in with the plot of killing ml's mom.
thats also why the drama showed us the qingzhou king who knew that as long as the ml's dad is alive, ml will not be able to become the heir because of how greedy the dad is. he also clearly says that the world will eventually fall into "young one's" hands while the yongzhou king just lost his most valuable son.
