I like Korean and Chinese crime dramas and I always wondered why Japan doesn't have similar ones of the same quality but this drama simply blew me away. Strawberry Night has to be one of the best Japanese series when it comes to the crime, mystery and detective genres. The books were pretty good, and this adaptation was equally as good. There were some changes but I liked them: Himekawa is less of an assh*le even if she drives home the point that ACAB every so often while Kikuta is less of an idiot and more dashing/suave (I was shipping him with Reiko so much!!). The stories were all well told and well acted - every actor suited their characters to a T; the plot was simply captivating. It was also nice seeing a couple of actresses who were just starting out their careers at the time this drama came out (hi, Omase Aya and Honda Tsubasa!) Overall, I give this drama a solid 9.0/10.
I hate the character of Katsumata so much. A disgusting human being who would mock rape survivors, sexist, and someone who casually beats up anyone in his path. He also sounds and looks so annoying.
I will give this series a try because I like the Strawberry Night Cinematic Universe and I would love to see its stories with a more modern budget and production value/cinematography but going by the trailer, the leads just do not suit the characters at all.
to be fair, im shocked a jdrama is even reaching 8 levels. id say any jdrama rated 7.5 or higher is usally a good…
The harshness anything Japanese gets on MDL is proportionate to the over inflation of Korean and Chinese ratings and makes me very mad - it just feeds into the idea that Jdramas and Jmovies are inherently low quality :/
I think Thai web series are usually rated fairly but lakorns scare me so I won't even venture to have an opinion on them XD
Honestly, it was okay. I honestly think the prequel drama was more scarier, deeper and emotionally involving. I was interested through the first half of the movie but the last 30mins became a rather mindless boring gorefest and I just got bored. I also expected Hiromi to have much more of a role but she was just a damsel in distress at best and a catatonic log at worst. It was a good enough zombie movie, I guess, but not the same calibre as Train to Busan. 7.9/10.
