so the serial killer is either creepy CEO exfiance or somehow connected with him, right? otherwise why are they showing corrupt Assemblyman and his sons so much?
i really liked the first episode! mix of comedy romance and sadness. it reminds me a lot of "100 Days Until You Die." ryubi looks cute in this drama and I love how this Grim Reaper basically just invites himself in their home 😂
I just have some stray comments for this drama: 1) amazing innovations are happening in the Truck of Doom industry 2) this really should have been the drama called Love Next Door 3) imagine being so hot you make a demon faint and have heart palpitations 4) I want to have as much fun as Park Shin-hye didi is having with this role. The sheer enjoyment on her face cannot be all acting... 5) I have seen only 2 dramas with PSH before this, all of them recent ones so i cannot speak for older ones. but I've never been impressed with her acting abilities, but this drama.... she is giving a full 100% so far. the body language (e.g. the cringing away from evangelical landlady), the facial expressions, the emotion in her eyes... I was unfamiliar with your game, PSH, I owe you an apology. 6) it seems like demons in the mortal realm slowly 'go native,' like undercover agents in enemy territory. it's interesting watching them gain human emotions and gain morality (they volunteer with seniors??). helped along with ML's face card & winning personality, we already see with Justitia. anyways, never thought i would feel so much pathos for a hellspawn. RIP the demon who was really in touch with his emotion & whose only crime was loving his gf too much. 7) anytime you see a supporting female character in a crime kdrama, don't get too attached... but why did it have to be the poor single mom? 8) i hope we see a compromise between the ML and the FL's approach to justice.
Look, I was only happy with the last two episodes because a) Ja-yeon x Gyu-hyun endgame 2) my fav ship got a second kiss! wholesome romcom hijinks! .... That's all I needed to be satisfied lol. Divorced of all the other context, perfect ending for these two and I sincerely want more of these characters as a couple. Or maybe these actors can costar in another romance drama?
But, alas, the other context. the happy ending for the Ja-hyun ship almost allowed me to forget that Gyu-hyun never apologized or backed down for demoting Hae-young and exiling her husband on the orders of his creepy mom and dad. Almost. Also, did creepy mom and dad simply allow the equality reforms to pass by with 0 pushback?
As for the main couple, I liked them individually as characters.** I liked all the comedic beats around them. I liked their acting (KYD was really good and likeable in this drama imo). But I personally did not feel their chemistry or even that Hae-young was that into him. The obligatory kdrama breakup just made groan. I'm surprised a show that subverted or played with all the usual tropes decided to just run with that particular trope.
** Ji-uk truly is an angel puppy. As he noted, Gyu-hyun never managed to apologize nor did creepy dad even acknowledge him. Yet, Ji-uk forgave all of them (even the bio mom). Like Dan-ho from LND, Ji-uk is a better man than me.
