From what I understand JX says that if he loves her he wouldn’t have deceived her. He says that he can’t promise that love is the most important thing in his life/she is the only one in his life but he can promise that she is the only one in his love. She asks if it is love? He then explains his definition of love

Later on in the novel, HT does ask her if she knows what breakup means and if she is ok with her moving on and in her mind JX admits that with both this relationship and previous relationship she thought she can go back later to talk things through….so no I don’t think she meant it when she says break up

She is feeling betrayed due to his secrets. She is also upset because she thinks he doesn’t love her due to his definition of love. She is reacting with her heart….HT didn’t do anything wrong per se and he is trying to protect her and XingChen in his own way but he didn’t communicate that with JX so she is feeling blindsided
