I really liked Guo Guo in the Manhua. I don’t understand why but the screenwriters of the drama transformed her into an ignorant and stupid idiot. Her intelligence and observation skills are beyond zero. She’s clingy, annoying and insecure. I really loved her in the book but the drama character is highly annoying and embarrassing. Because I also like the actress it feels like a double let-down,
Ep. 18 was really meant to ramp up the tension of Ziqi and Miaomiao's love, but especially to highlight Ziqi's…
Well said. I agree with you on all points. After ep 18 I felt it’s been lazy writing to jump over them coming together besides embracing each other. But the fact that nobody talked about the mindfuck and everyone let it happen from the friendsgroup felt like a let down. In general I don’t need to have dramas who spell out everything. In this case it felt incomplete because it was an impactful situation.
This strong Xuanhuan series boasts perfect pacing that keeps you hooked from start to finish. I decided to watch it on a whim after reading the entertaining description, but I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable and addictive it turned out to be. One of the highlights is the absence of unnecessary filler episodes, which really maintains the high tension throughout. However, I must say that episode 18 felt strangely out of place and unnecessary.
Despite that, I quickly found myself growing fond of all the characters. The costumes, settings, and fight scenes were spot on, exactly what you'd expect from a quality Chinese series. I thought the ending wrapped things up nicely and provided a satisfying conclusion. I'm puzzled by the dissatisfaction of some viewers and the calls for a second season, which seem unwarranted. While Esther Yu's voice work still doesn’t sit right with me, I’ve managed to get used to it. Overall, it’s a fantastic fantasy story that offers a delightful escape!
In the first ep the female lead gets drawn into the web novel after leaving a rant about the storyline of the book of her favorite author. While watching it’s revealed that she skipped several side plots and chapters. Why am I mentioning it? That’s in general a group of people that often comments on dramas on MDL whose opinions are zero interesting for me because they don’t know the whole picture but feel entitled to stop others from watching with negative comments. The drama did a great job in reminding me of that and also turns the tables with pointing out that the story only works if you watch everything. My compliments to the screenwriter for starting the show with a hidden critic towards annoying fans.
Does anyone know why he took a break in 2023? Also why he hasn’t starred in as many dramas as other actors?
He never took a break. He was continuously working. It’s rather that some shows have been earlier released as originally announced whereas others got delayed. The production of historical shows also takes more time.
I literally love watching Hu Yitian as lead. That’s why I have seen nearly everything available with him. He’s perfect in fantasy and historical shows. I hope he will do more of those in the future. It’s also eye candy to watch him in modern dramas but here you get the usual problem: hit or miss. I’m convinced that costume dramas are better written then modern shows? One reason for it is because they can offer more strong female characters. I think Hu Yitian fits perfectly in these topics. Personally my favorite show with him is still HANDSOME SIBLINGS. I just love the drama. My worst watch experience is still UNREQUITED LOVE. That was the definition of dragging. What’s your favorite projects with him?
i am sorry but what the hell happened in ep 18???!its so unreasonable nd annoying
I reached this ep as well now. You’re so right. It’s so unreasonable that Sister Mu let her be. She’s distracted, yes. But oh boy, what a terrible friend!
This engaging women’s drama beautifully portrays how independent women can thrive outside traditional gender roles when given the chance to challenge societal norms. The female characters are depicted as hard-working, intelligent, witty, and eager to pursue their education. The underlying message is clear: embrace your true self, regardless of what others might think.
The drama showcases a diverse array of male characters, ranging from devoted partners to fools and abusers. While most of them lean toward stereotypically pale portrayals, the chance to delve into Yenxin's character was particularly enjoyable. His family and professional relationships added depth to the storyline, making it a pleasure to watch. Hu Yitian truly embodies this role perfectly, and I’m hopeful he will take on more historical projects in the future.
In conclusion, I'd like to discuss the king. It's often the case that characters in similar roles exhibit a range of negative traits. However, this king frustrated me from the very beginning with his inconsistency, insecurity, and envy. By the end, his arrogance became simply intolerable. He’s continuously sulking that nobody is honest towards him. But every time a character does it he gets killed, stripped from all privileges or gets banned. Come one, give me a break! The audacity of this king is next level, especially because he portrays himself as caring and openminded. So annoying!
To sum up, this is an engaging and compelling drama that successfully highlights the struggles faced by women, while also weaving in a surprisingly genuine and healthy love story between the main characters—one that never overshadows the core themes.
Beautiful drama that kept me watching till the end. Strong female characters, interesting male leads, character development and no boring moments. I loved the show! The couple is gold!
Republican dramas tend to be really draggy but this one is pretty good. It offers many exciting character developments, emotional love and family stories, and a good insight in the civil and military experiences during this era. I can only praise it and will watch it again in the future.
I'm so glad I bought the DVD of the drama in Hong Kong. So I can independently watch the show when I need some epic Daoming Si and Dong Shancai love. They're so adorable together! Some scenes are just epic with the cinematography and music. I really love the first half of the show with bad boy Si and all his childish mean girl stuff. Despite some toxic traits and a few uninteresting sub plots the show always captures my heart. Its amazing.
One reason why I hate the Xiaoyou storyline is because she completely gives herself and her own needs up for the illusion of changing a bad boy. She's okay with giving him to all his needs just to get a few seconds of attention. In this case she doesn't mind her own feelings besides a toxic crush. She's willing to sleep with him because Ximen pokers so high. She's stalking him because she feels like the good girl. She's trying to get his feelings while using his weak spot and the love experience of his first love. The moment she was imimitating his first love with her stil change I couldn't help but rolling my eyes. That's opportunistic and weak. I really dislike her weak character. She's everything but a good idol for young girls. In addition, I hate the show tries to sell out this story as romantic and successful whereas it should be called what it is: toxic and weak. And don't start me on Shancais audacity to butt in her friends business. If she wants to act stupid she needs to learn her lessons herself. The protective side of Shancai makes sense for most part but not in the relationship development. How dare she?! Imagine Xiaoyou would've done the same with Shancai considering Daoming Si from the start, the show would be unwatchable.
