The Blossoming Love - The Underrated Pick
The Blossoming Love is like a sweet, epic rollercoaster of love and drama, set in a fantastical ancient China.The Female Lead: Mu Xuanling, played by Sun Zhen Ni, is a total game-changer in this drama. She's not your usual damsel-in-distress; she's out there, making things happen. Her character is all about being flirty yet smart, pushing the boundaries with her boldness. Watching her navigate this ancient world with such confidence and wit is a blast. She doesn't wait for love to come to her; she goes out and grabs it, making her relationship with Xie Xue Chen feel like a true partnership. It's all about her growth, her choices, and how she owns her story.
The Male Lead: Let's talk about Xie Xue Chen, played by Vin Zhang. He's got that classic brooding hero vibe going on but with layers. His journey from a guarded warrior to someone who opens up to love is heartwarming. His chemistry with Mu Xuanling is what fairy tales are made of, and you can't help but root for them through every twist and turn.
The Scene-Stealing Second Lead: Now, Wang Duo as Nan Xu Yue? He's the dark horse of this drama. From the moment he steps onto the screen, he commands attention with his enigmatic acting. Nan Xu Yue is the epitome of "troubled but talented" - he's got secrets, a tragic past, and motives that keep you guessing. Wang Duo plays him with such nuance, giving us a character who's both a potential villain and an unexpected hero. You see him shift from being this loyal friend to revealing his more complex, sometimes sinister side. His internal struggle is palpable, and his scenes with Mu Xuanling are charged with a raw, magnetic energy that often overshadows the main couple. His performance adds a delicious layer of unpredictability and depth to the show, making you question loyalties and root for him even when logic says you shouldn't. He's not just a love interest or an antagonist; he's a narrative force that challenges the very essence of the love story, making "Blossoming Love" all the more captivating.
Overall Vibe: If you're into dramas where the female lead isn't just there to look pretty, the male lead brings depth to the story, and the second lead could have his own spin-off, "Blossoming Love" is your jam. It's a binge-worthy tale that'll tug at your heartstrings, challenge your allegiances, and keep you guessing until the very end.

A surprise of 2023
I truly enjoyed this drama, and now that I finished it, I have withdrawal symptoms. Honestly, this show has everything that I enjoy:(1) An intelligent female lead that doesnt take crap from people (no Mary Sues here) ;
(2) A male lead that is willing to do what needs to be done to reach his goals (Anti-heroes represent!);
(3) A strong chemistry between the leads (NO duck kisses to be seen);
(4) A couple that teams up and solves their issues quickly (those that scheme together stay together);
(5) A story that has not fillers (missing the mandatory annoying second couple, yay!); and
(6) A very happy ending (in many ways *wink wink*).
Point number 6 was very important to me and thankfully SOKP delivered, I had been burnt many times by C-dramas and there is nothing more frustrating than investing 40 plus episodes on a period piece and getting rewarded with tragic or lazy open ending. So kudos to the cast and crew, this drama was very entertaining, two thumbs up from me.
