Title Be Yourself
How does this compare to Twenty Your Life On??
From what I’ve watched so far, if you want more focus on career and character growth, Twenty Your Life On is way better. But if you prefer something lighter and more about love and emotions, then this drama might suit you. Personally, I like Twenty Your Life On more, especially season 2—it’s much better than season 1. I haven’t finished this one yet though, so that’s just my impression so far.

I have drama friends who don't like OG overall or something in particular. I know not everyone likes it, and I…
I genuinely liked this drama, but I’ve got to admit—it still has quite a few flaws that could’ve been improved. And no, this isn’t just about the scenes or episodes that were supposedly cut. The core issue lies in the scriptwriting, which felt a bit weak, and the producers’ struggle to properly build the chemistry within the Qushan gang.

The actors clearly gave it their all, but they were let down by choppy editing, stiff and overly textbook-like dialogue, and a lack of narrative consistency from start to finish. At times, it just didn’t flow the way it should’ve.

That said, I truly appreciate the cast’s performances—they stayed solid despite the script issues. I might even rewatch the drama someday, simply because I enjoyed the characters’ diverse personalities so much.

Still, I can’t help but feel a little sad. This drama could’ve been so much better than what we ended up getting.

I know this might be a controversial opinion, but honestly, I’m glad this drama only has 24 episodes. I mean, even within those 24, there were already so many scenes and lines that felt unnatural, and the chemistry was kinda flat (except for Yingtao and Qiaoxi—they carried). A lot of the scenes and dialogues just felt unnecessary, dragged out, and not straight to the point. And this is a 24-episode drama. I can’t even imagine if it had 40 episodes—I’d have to sit through all that filler for even longer. So yeah, I kinda get why they ended up releasing just 24.
That said, I actually really enjoyed the drama. I loved the characters' personalities, the themes, and seeing how they all grew throughout the story!!

Do I need to watch season 1 to watch this?
I watch it season 2 before season 1. So I say No, but for better experience (in season 2, they didn't tell any backstory in season 1), I think watch season 1, before watch season 2 it's really good too.

I agree, and his change was too fast. The reason for his change was also to get back together with Xiu Ya. Quick changes tend to revert just as quickly. Once his goal is achieved, sooner or later, he will return to his original self.

That's right, such things often happen in real life. It's very sad because this drama portrays the issue too realistically. Until the end, not a single word of apology came out of the mother's mouth.

I’ve finished it. From the start, I knew that no action taken by parents comes without a reason. I’m Asian, and the culture portrayed in this drama resonates deeply with me, which is why it frustrates me even more. Just because it’s realistic and happens frequently there doesn’t mean it’s right, nor does it mean it should be normalized like that. If you're wrong, then you must apologize.

Xiu Ya's situation is not much different from Seok Ryu's in the kdrama Love Next Door. But at least, before Seok Ryu became successful, his mother was always by his side, always defending him. Seok Ryu's mother just didn’t want her child to go through what she had gone through. But not with Xiu Ya's mother. Xiu Ya's mother was nowhere to be found when Xiu Ya needed her. She refused to get wet when her child fell into trouble. But what is she doing now? Argh, I’m so angry about this episode.

I hope that at the ending, Xiu Ya can walk freely and smile of her own will.

Episode 21 really frustrated me. It reminded me of Na Hee Do's mother in the kdrama 2521. Without considering her child's reasons and feelings, she was busy criticizing and saying her child's choices were wrong. Xiu Ya's mother plays the victim so well that everyone, even Xiu Ya, can’t be angry at her. I'm really tired of characters like this. I'd rather see a truly evil mother like Chen Ting in Go Ahead than a mother who tries to seem good but is actually mentally bullying her own child.

Xiu Ya's mother crossed every line, projecting Xiu Ya as her investment. Her investment failed when Xiu Ya quit her job and broke up with Zheng Hao. She went crazy, feeling that all her sacrifices were in vain. She sacrificed until she was sick, but her investment failed. That's how Xiu Ya is seen through her mother's eyes. Xiu Ya's mother feels she’s always sacrificed for her, but in reality, she did it for herself. I wonder, if Xiu Ya had never joined a big company and never dated a successful person, would her mother still love her the same as before? Or would she treat her like trash, like in this episode?

I tried to understand things from the mother's side, as Xiao Lan told Xiu Ya, but no matter how much I think about it, I can’t tolerate it. Xiu Ya has always faced mental abuse: at home, at school, at work, even in her relationships. She could only heal mentally when she was with Bang He and dating Shi Ye. But again, her mental health is attacked when she’s burdened with her mother's illness.

I wonder, will Xiu Ya continue to be mentally attacked by everyone around her until the end and just normalize it, thinking everything is fine?

Usually, when watching an annoying character suddenly fall ill with a serious disease, I would feel pity and understand their actions. But Xiu Ya's mother is truly only thinking of herself. She didn’t tell her family and tried to gather beautiful memories just for herself. She crossed the line by calling Zheng Hao, even though when Xiu Ya was in school and her father scolded her harshly, her mother wouldn't cross the line and shut the door on Xiu Ya, causing Xiu Ya to lose herself for years.
Even now, she still does whatever she wants. But for a family, honesty is what matters most. You won't be remembered as a hero for pretending to be okay and leaving your loved ones without a word.
