it’s not as black-and-white as you’re making it. Yeah, some western shows only include side gay characters for “diversity points,” but not all of them. There are side characters in tons of shows—gay, straight, whatever—that still have real stories and depth. Just because they’re not the main couple doesn’t mean they’re just there for decoration.

Also, saying BL is the only space that doesn’t treat gay love as a side dish kind of ignores the fact that a lot of BLs are made for straight audiences, and usually by straight women. And a lot of them—let’s be real—romanticize stuff like forced love, toxic relationship.

And honestly, if side gay couples in straight shows are just “background decoration,” then why is it suddenly a problem when a queer show has side straight couples as decoration? I have yet to see you make a comment regarding the main gay pair storyline or the lesbian one? Have u even watched the episodes ? Whatever i am done with you! You do know that thailand produced 200+ bls last year? Korean has 30+ bl shows planner and two of them are coming out in April. Taiwan and japan continuously releasing bls when one is over and another one take that slot almost immediately! Girl/boy do you live under a rock? No adaptation is page to page similar. Secret Relationship also did their own thing but people loved it....all the "unnecessary"' scene showed us more about Hesse and Seung Won you know the main GAY COUPLE? Just say your issue is with the straight couple who got 5mins screentime hahahahaaa

There are so many drama's with straight couples, they are already found in almost every genre. So, why should BL be the one to make space for them?

So if your issue is that one storyline in *one* BL drama happens to feature a straight couple as a side plot, maybe ask yourself why that’s such a threat. Have you read the manga?? Because in the manga Hessu helping Seungwon to get jiyu is how he develops his feeling for Seungwon. The series is literally following the original material lmao…
