A seriously good drama, very underrated compared with some of the other rubbish historic/xianxia dramas released this year. Great plot, acting, costumes etc.
I read the English plot description here and then went and found the original Chinese description on Douban. https://movie.douban.com/subject/34937939/ It looks like they are changing the memory/flashback parts quite a lot from the books which is a little disappointing (in addition to Shimei being a girl). I think the most impactful parts of the book were related to the MoRan keeping all his memory from his past life when he was reborn, so when the 'same' things happened in his second life, he was able to see them different compared with his past life and learn from his mistakes.
