I'm yet to watch all the episodes, but watched till episode 21. Lady Wuji's death scene was pitiful. She didn't deserve such a death. And I'm disappointed that Ziyu chose to believe his brother's words about wuji. I have always admired Zi Yu, but in this episode, I was really disappointed & crushed with the way Zi Yu acted. At least, he should've have stopped them from executing Lady Wuji. If Zi Yu has no problem breaking up walls and breaking rules for Yun weishan by fighting an elder with a sword, he should do the same for Lady Wuji. He could've at least asked lady Wuji to write something to him on another paper. I don't understand why the writers wrote the scene that way. It was heartbreaking to watch! I'm disappointed with the way Zi Yu reacted in this 'lady wuji accused' scenario. Zi yu really, really should've racked his brain to come up with smart solutions to save Lady Wuji from being executed. I can't believe he just stood there passively when the guards relayed the execution order of the elders. He should've have just broken the rules and saved lady wuji from at least execution.
I wonder if Shangguan is really pregnant (bath scene) or she lied in order to escape?
I'm yet to watch that entire episode without skipping. There's a possibility that maybe she lied. Because Gong Shangjue also doesn't seem to believe everything she said. He was busy taking out some grey slate from her sleeves. He himself told yuanzhi, "otherwise he wouldn't have let her go". She was not willing to compromise. He wasn't either. Yet both seem to be attracted to each other, and didn't want bloodshed. That should be their last resort. Gong Shang Jue's loyalty to the Gong family seems a notch stronger than his romantic interests. Shangguan Qian knows this. He might waver and kill her Sorrowfully, so shannguan Qian might have come up with the 'pregnancy idea'. But shangguan qian underestimated him. GSJ's eyes are always on the game. He managed to save her life by stealing the grey slate -like thing back from her. That way he saved his family as well as his love. I think out of the two, Gong Shang Jue is smarter.
I think he is still too heartbroken to discern things objectively. To me it felt like he wants Yun Weishan to…
But the problem is elder Yue should have had the insight that every couple handles their love problems differently. He shouldn't have gone & given couple advice to Yun weishan. That was irresponsible of him... Maybe he could've given that when Gong ziyu was also present, even if Gong Ziyu might protest... But I strongly think elder Yue's advice was inapt & irresponsible because if yun weishan leaves gong ziyu, it'll hurt gog ziyu mentally a lot. I don't understand why someone like elder yue would give an advice that'll end up making the couple feel separated and tortured... And I don't think from the way, Ziyu's character is designed, he'll find 'peace ' when Yun weishan leaves him. Maybe he'll accept her decision helplessly, but he will be plunged in sorrow. The poor guy is already stressed as it is. Also, it's not like Yun weishan felt 'happy' to leave him.
Tbh, the main story was for the female lead. Her way from the nastiest path to the right path. Her progress on…
Well, that's your interpretation. The way I interpret it, I don't think the title of this drama refers to the story of the female lead alone. The title could refer to the respective journeys of the main couple towards each other or it could even refer to the male lead's journey towards the female lead ( considering the fact that the setting is a patriarchal world). And the title of this drama itself can have romantic undertones.
And yes, yun weishan always wanted freedom. But it's not the 'feminist' kind of freedom that she craved... After she fell for Gong Ziyu, she was reluctant to part with him. I have only watched till ep 21. Based on what I saw in the episodes till 21, it can also be interpreted that she mixed truth with lies to make her 'need for freedom' speech believable, especially to Gong Ziyu. In my opinion, she was just following Elder Yue's foolish, sentimental, illogical advice. I don't know why the writers designed yun weishan that way. She was so smart to begin with... I don't know what will happen in upcoming episodes, but taking a sudden decision like that was too hasty.
And I don't think the main male lead is a complement to her journey because both main leads have equal important roles in the story, especially the main male lead (whether you like it or not). It's so obvious!
And I didn't say anything about yun weishan's death etc. I have no idea regarding what's to come in season 2. I won't unnecessarily over speculate .
But from a logical point of view, considering the fact that Gong ziyu did so much for her, considering the fact yun weishan likes her target (her would have been victim), & considering the fact that the title sounds emotional & romantic, the story needn't have taken such a turn. Even if the writers wanted to create 'yun weishan's departure scene', they could've just given another reason for it , and made the departure scene temporary...
I didn't like the advice given by elder yue to yun weishan in ep 19. If she leaves, then all the efforts that gong ziyu took to save her will be wasted! What were the scriptwriters thinking? And I can't believe of all people, elder yue is the one suggesting this... From his experience, he should know that it never turns out well when the female assassin leaves gong residence...
Also, I would have loved to see a wuxia drama were apart from the excellent action scenes, mysteries etc., the female lead doesn't listen to the foolish advice of others to give up on her love story & just leave... Yet to watch upcoming episodes... I just love the male lead, Zi Yu here. He doesn't give up on their love easily no matter what number of lurking dangers are out there. The female lead should just follow Gong Zi Yu's example. After all, he broke many rules for her, and they have come unscathed this far! Female lead, please don't ruin things for the male lead.
I don't know why they wrote the story this way... And I don't understand why they made elder yue's character change this way. This contradicts his earlier idea of giving happy endings for all lovers in this world ๐คจ๐
Ok, this drama had lot of potential! The rest of the episodes also weren't bad. The main couple didn't disappoint me when it comes to their relationship... But the unfinished ending is making me have doubts about their ending. But there were two big problems for me: Problem 1): Gong ShangJue's love didn't turn deeper as I hoped... But can't fully blame him considering the circumstances, but still I wanted his love for Shangguan Qian to turn real deep... This was a bit of a letdown because the spice is lost... Problem 2): the ending The ending was completely unsatisfactory, incomplete. I think if they tied up all the loose ends satisfactorily, and gave a happy ending to all the important characters with a good heart, the last episode would have been perfect. The mystery could have been solved in the last episode or in one more episode. Now I will always keep thinking what will happen, what will happen... What did Gong Ziyu see? Etc. ๐ฃ๐ฉ

His advice might now cause more problems for ziyu.

This is what I too would like to see.
Some of the good dramas these days disappointing me with sloppy endings..

I have no problem with age gaps as long as there's mutual consensus.
I have no problem with age gaps as long as there's mutual consensus.
No way! Why? Why like this?
Is the main couple together & alive?
