If you wanna watch an anthology of Japanese shota porn without the actual porn part, then be my guest and watch this trash. Otherwise, skip the trouble of actually watching this drama which basically glorifies infidelity. What's up with Japanese and Korean dramas' obsession on infidelity . Instead of shedding a light on the devastating effects of infidelity on relationships they always somehow tend to romanticize the cheating . I mean its bad enough that you romanticize it , but to justify it also ? . Probably why the rate of infidelity and divorce is so high over there when your media sort of like promote the act itself . I know it is still considered a taboo in Japan for a married couple to go and seek a marriage counselor's help ( Still no idea why the fuck is that ) . But going to a counselor is a gazillion time better than cheating on your partner ay ? I refuse to believe its the culture and all that . I mean what kind of fucked up culture promotes infidelity instead of fixing the relationship ?
This show is more of an anthology of different women with different stories who end up having sex or some sort…
Great review! Can't agree with you more. This trash is indeed "Japanese porn without the porn part" as you described it to be. Can't put it into better words myself. =)
I liked everything about this film. Everything felt so real. The emotions, the conflict and the war itself. Loved how they showed the divide between the North and South Koreans through conflicts and drama. I'm not surprised to see Megan Fox in this considering that she isn''t doing anything big in Hollywood these days. I liked her journalist character and it was based on Marguerite Higgins and Margaret Bourke-White. If I had one gripe about this film, it would be about the female soldier pretending to be a male soldier. That part seemed like something out of fiction considering that female soldiers were also enlisted in the Korean war but they were assigned as nurses instead of soldiers . That part seemed like it was there for the purpose of feminism fanservice. Oh well, history is written by the victors but apart from that, the film is a good war film. =)
I liked the idea of exploring the psychosis of this woman suffering from loss and enduring all of this psychological pain via her delusions due to it. Not to mention that all the fame and glory that she achieved after her lover's death turned out to be all in her head. Reminds me of A Beautiful Mind. But the film fails in exploring or showing any depth to her mental illness. Not to mention that its basically glorified within her delusions. I mean, they had a good opportunity to deeply explore her state of mind but all there is when its said and done is just a bunch of dancing and sex scenes which are shot in a music video format. I mean, the constant dancing and sex scenes get so redundant that I just wanted it to get over somehow. I feel like these scenes are nothing but fillers to fill in the time since they didn't have enough script to fill in the 1 hour 30 minute mark and so they added these scenes to serve as nothing but redundant fillers. Also, the ending could have been better. She wakes up from her delusional dream and thats it. Wish we had something more concrete. Something more real to end this crazy ride of a film. They had a good plot initially but it was ruined by redundant filler dancing and sex scenes, lack of depth regarding her mental illness and that lousy ending. I will say one good thing though. Her imaginary friend Butch, the character and its costume was on point. Probably one of my favorite things about the film.
Koreans do a great job of making annoying female characters. I feel like its a recurring theme in their shows and movies the more Korean media I watch. The female detective on this show can't act to save her life and has the same robotic expressions for each situation. Its like she's an anime character or something. Lol Dropped the show just out of pure annoyance for her character. I personally can't stand annoyingly infuriating characters in fiction.

And I'm sure people who dislike my opinion are gonna talk shit at me and say things like I'm "jealous" or something. Jealous of what?! Everyone's entitled to their opinion and not everyone's gonna agree with you. Hope you accept that sooner than later than get butthurt over a difference of opinion.
The humor in this movie is made for 12 year olds. Seriously, this movie fails as a horror comedy even though there's literally no horror and has more comedy or at least thats what they intended when they made this generic horror comedy of a movie. If you've seen horror comedies or comedies in general as long as I have, you can see that this movie's attempts at comedy are nothing but overused attempts at humor other movies have done plenty of times. The humor in this movie is cliche and generic. A good example of this would be the zombie getting hit by a vehicle as something big is about to happen is the most overused gag they would do in those Scary Movie movies. Not to mention that the makeup done on the zombie looks like some kid cheaply dressed up as a zombie for Halloween. If you've never seen any horror comedies period, then you might get a laugh out of this. But if you want a brilliantly funny horror comedy around zombies, go watch Shawn of the Dead or Zombieland than this unfunny waste of time.
You only commented one aspect of the movie and that is how unlikeable the characters are. But if you look through…
The cinematography and direction was great and so was the plot. This is me just stating some constructive criticism. It not lik I'm hating the movie since I actually started enjoying it once the housekeeper was revealed to be a leecher herself but the unlikeable protagonists are what prevented me from thoroughly enjoying this movie and calling this movie a "masterpiece" like every other sheep is calling it. In my observation, people will love anything made by a famous director. Christopher Nolan is a perfect example of this. People will applaud his movies no matter how many faults it may or may not have. The same can be said about Bong Joon-ho.
The word "masterpiece" gets used a lot these days to the point that its lost its meaning. People would even call blockbuster popcorn flicks a "masterpiece" these days. That being said, I gave this movie a watch out of curiosity after I saw a few people deem it a "masterpiece". This movie is literally like the Japanese movie Shoplifters, only instead of shoplifting to survive, this family leeches off of other people to survive. The story starts with the premise that this family leeches off of other people to survive down to even stealing wifi from other people. Koreans do a great job of making unlikeable characters as protagonists since I felt the same dislike I had towards the protagonists of this movie towards the protagonists of The Handmaiden. Unlike Shoplifters, this movie made each member of the parasitic family dislikeable to the point that you wish death upon them. The daughter of the parasitic family (Ki-jeong) in particular was so unlikeable to the point that I wished death upon her as I watched the movie. Hell, she was acting and speaking like a drunk would for most of the movie and even spoke like a drunkard as she was getting stabbed by the deranged husband of the housekeeper and bleeding to death. I liked the social commentary this movie had by showing the divide of class between the rich and the poor. It also had its moments of black comedy humor here and there. I would have been angry if these characters got a happy ening but I'm glad its a grim and bleak ending we got at the end. Altho, how Ki-Woo survived getting hit with a stone twice on the head is beyond me. I'm no neurosurgeon but how he is functioning as a normal human being despite that and avoided braindamage makes me question if this is possible. Overall, I enjoyed the movie despite its initial predictability of the family members replacing the servants of the rich family and enjoying a life of leisure the house of this rich family had to offer as they worked for them. For me, things started taking a turn when it was revealed that the former housekeeper was leeching off of this rich family as well and had a husband held up in the bunker whom she fed regularly. Thats when my interest peeked since I was about to give up on this movie when I saw these unlikeable characters enjoy a luxurious lifestyle as they leeched off the rich family. It would have been nice if the protagonists were more likeable and if this rich family they leech off were mean or abusive instead of the nice family they were potrayed to be in the movie since that would have given us a chance to root for the former despite the parasitic family's sins. Either way, the film takes a bit to get interesting and to get out of the bowels of predictablility but despite that, I wouldn't call it a "masterpiece" like most reviewers claim it to be. I have never seen a movie made by Bong Joon-ho so I'm completely unbiased since most people will call anything made by their favorite directos a "masterpiece" these days. Watch this movie only if you have patience and can withstand unlikeable characters.
I liked it but in my observation, most remakes are inferiror to their originals and this one is no different. Not to mention how flat the story was. I personally prefer the two parter Japanese movie to this.
Is this show worth watching? I'm seeing all kinds of negative comments about how bad the show is. Lol Its a shame since I really loved the hell outta the movie.
Your delusion seems to be on another level. Why in the world you are confusing actress with the character. From…
I agree with him tho. Student-teacher shows are trash. Its like dramatizing pedophilia in my opinion. At this rate, soon, they'll make a show about a 60 year old falling in love with an 18 year old and people will still applaud and watch the hell outta it. And you wouldn't believe the amount of crazies on this site that actually fantasize about that sorta relationship. Hell, many even think that the way relationships are portrayed in dramas are actually how relationships work in real life. Its crazy! No offense but you seem triggered by his opinion. I get it that you are triggered by his opinion but hey, no need to insult the dude based on his different opinion. But from a realistic point of view tho, I don't see any sane teacher actually recirprocating the "feelings" of a student because most real life student-teacher cases end up with the teacher in jail for sexual assault or rape. Personally, I dislike how Japan glorifies these pedophilic student-teacher relationships....that along with infidelity. Hell, most Japanese people actually think its okay to cheat on their spouses as long as they are not in love with the person they're using to cheat on. Its crazy!
I'm new to K-drama so excuse me if I come off as someone hating on K-drama but is it me or are most K-dramas just…
Yea I agree, in kdrama's, I feel like they think the romance aspect is more important than the storyline itself. Though I have to say that DOTS got better after a while due to some more action, the romance is still in the forefront. Which is kinda normal seeing it's a romantic drama, but still. The only drama I enjoyed which is for a more mature audience and isn't about romance is the drama SKY Castle. It's one of my fave drama's. The first episode is kinda boring but it gets better the more the plot progresses. Highly recommend
Japanese lesbian dramas tend to be weak or mediocre in my observation. Probably because they are written by a dude. I don't know, I'm just guessing here. Lol
While I have no opinion of this pairing because they're gonna go ahead with this drama despite our opinions, the following are some of the overly negative reactions the drama is getting on dramapanda:
小妹 JULY 22, 2019 AT 6:36 AM Jerry Yan is born 1977 and Shen Yue 1997, that’s 20 whole ass years and they’re going to have smooching scenes…… this uncle Jerry needs to pick more age appropriate projects. Good luck to Shen Yue, I bet she’ll get hated by Jerry’s deranged auntie-aged fangirls...
Anonymous JULY 22, 2019 AT 10:30 AM I knew the age is going to be the very first comment. There was once a rumor ZLY would act with Jerry and he was cursed so badly to the point he made a public comment about it.
This time Shen Yue is even more younger. Why would his fangirls yell at Shen Yue??? That did not happen in his previous rumors. It was only him, who got cursed at. Now, it's more like people are going to yell at him again. And it's going to be people who are not even Shen Yue's fans, they will just curse because they find him old or hating for no reason.
Many people say they like Zhan Zhen acting with Ni Ni in Love and Destiny because of his manly look, I got to agree manly is the way to go. Jerry is still good looking, better than Zhan Zhen.
However I have to say 20 is still a very big gap. I wished they would find people who are 5-6 years apart from each other. 10 years would be like the very maximum, it would be the most lenient one already. I think 20 is too much. I don't support either fans from both of their sides if they're going to argue who's smooching with who, I don't think either artist should choose this role if their age difference is this huge.
Hohliu JULY 22, 2019 AT 10:37 AM The lead actor is not present in the filming opening ceremony....Really not a good sign. I am sure he has a good reason.
Anonymous JULY 22, 2019 AT 11:23 AM Yes. I agree. 20 years difference is too much. Technically, he can be her father already. What were the casting people thinking? That is very weird. Poor girl!
Sunny JULY 22, 2019 AT 12:09 PM Gross! This uncle needs to be acting in romance dramas with women close to his own age and not a girl barely out of her teens.
What are Shen Yue's team thinking pairing her in a romance drama with an uncle to old enoughb to be her father? Who is this supposed to appeal to?
Anonymous JULY 22, 2019 AT 7:28 PM Jerry Yan, please don't kiss Shen Yue!!! She's still a baby!!! Jerry Yan kissing Shen Yue in the drama would be child abuse or child molestation!!!
Anonymous JULY 22, 2019 AT 7:29 PM Are there no better drama offerings to Jerry Yan? Has he not graduated from starring in idol dramas? You know, I don't mind him taking cutesy stuff like this but, he is at the age where in he needs to be starring in more mature roles than this. Even his f4 mates Vaness and Vic is getting/starring in more reputable and serious dramas. Guess Jerry isn't being offered?
Sunny JULY 23, 2019 AT 12:09 PM I was thinking the same thing. Seems like a very odd choice for a comeback after years away from acting. Must be slim pickings?

Anonymous JULY 23, 2019 AT 8:21 PM So he got the role first? I know it can sound bad to decline...but if he got the role first it would actually be easier to decline. It sounds wayyy much more messier if she got the role first, then learns that he's joining, and she quit the role just because of him...etc.
If she decline something and that will come off rude, in his shoe, declining something will be rude too. Both are stars and famous, men and women are equal in status, not 100% but already close enough esp. in cases like this. Her declining is not going to be offensive. If he decline it, people will say he's thoughtful, so if she decline I would expect the same that she is thoughtful too. This is how you pull women's height equal to men, stop blaming men all the time and allow women to speak what they need. But I really don't blame either of the stars, the agency shouldn't actually pull them together in the first place if they know their own etiquette. It's not like this is the first time too, there's been movies like this before with huge age gap.
