COMMUNICATION!!!
while watching this I realized for this show to work out as well as it did, the writers had to remove a fundamental human behaviour which is COMMUNICATION. I mean I get it, the show can stand on its feet, but if this aspect weren't totally ignored, the show wouldn't be as good.
Now to character assessment:
1) Yoo Jin Kang --- girl bye!!! I mean, I sincerely do not like girls with the same trait as this lady here. At least Seung Ah was straight with what she wanted., the girl didn't play games. The writers sneakily try to sell to us the whole wholesome image and honest BS but we (I) saw through it. She knows people tend to believe her that is why she deceives them easily and lies to get her way... She tells Seung Ah to stay away from Kim Moo Yong but doesn't herself. Constantly lies to her bosses about helping them connect with Kim or Wong. Deceives her brother constantly but is with the quickness to lay blame on others and play le victim ( pardon my french).
2) Kim Moo Yong--- He enjoyed control, enjoyed inflicting emotional and physical pain but mostly loved to play mind games. I loved his character so when he started being all lovey-dovey with Yoo, I was confused cause I said to myself someone like that doesn't deserve the happiness he's trying to carve out for himself. I waited, watching, hoping against all odds that the writers don't disappoint me and they came through. The first pain he felt wasn't enough for me so I waited then the major pain when he misunderstood and started acting out gave me all kinds of joy I couldn't imagine.
3) Yoo Gin Gook --- all I can say here is this was where communication failed us. The writers played lots of games with this character. They really made him pitiable and weak AF. They used him to let many plot holes slide and we forgave them because all in all, he played his part in the whole fiasco.
4) Tak--- I LOVE YOU. If friends were like you, people would need just one and be better in life for it.

Thank you.. like I don't understand the low ratings. People want things spelled out for them. This film just wants you to understand that not every crime is known and reported. There are serial killers living amongst us and thriving. They are not flamboyant in their kills.. they're just sick...

You don't feel the FL kept the ML on a supernatural leash that had him brainwashed into thinking he was in love with her..? and that every "romantic" gesture he did was done against his will..? that he was technically put in an atypical Stockholm Syndrome situation...? That the reason people are quick to praise it is because it was done by a woman...? That the outrage would have poured out if it was done by the ML to the FL..?
Anyway, I'm just curious why you thought it was "so good"

Ok... you seem to be open minded but is stuck on an assumption that beginner sociopaths are a certain way... I didn't imply he was this raging psycho but a more subtle type. Geez, he might not even be aware of what he does as manipulation. It may just be as a means of survival since it seems like he moves around a lot.

SJ is a GUY, as you stated, most popular and strong.. now why would this "guy" cling to you...? without your mind at least letting you know he wants something from you..?

No matter whether he was passive or active, he delivered a human to be destroyed by beasts after he was warned to stay away for a while... and had the nerve to put the blame on both of them instead of owning up.... to understand how bad that scene was put a girl in the stead of YJ and you'll be immediately annoyed.... He counted on the affection he knew SJ feels for him to help him.. if not that then why would he even say it??

Look, this movie is one of the best things I've watched. I guess they gave an ambiguous ending so as to leave it to interpretation.. So I might be wrong or right but at the end, it doesn't really matter cause it's a very good movie..

He played victim, ignorant or even naïve..?
1) when SJ saved him from those bullies
2) when SJ invited him to his home?
3) when SJ specifically asked him to avoid to bad guys
4) when he delivered that drugged girl to be raped
5) when he wanted both of them to tale the fall of the perceived backlash from that case
6) when he switched off SJ calls even though he was aware why he was calling
7) when he went to visit SJ in jail
8) he WILL play victim again in his new school and that is why we were made to see him transferred
Now coming to him as a character, he presents as a good person but is morally grey. He justifies his actions because he feels he's in a bad place. He is willing to do anything as long as he benefits him at that point in time.
He got stuck to SJ pretty quick because he knew it protected him from bullies. SJ affection for him was pretty clear (almost open) he pretended not to see and manipulated the situation. SJ got him a job, protection from the job and school and what did he do for SJ.. the only thing SJ asked of him , he ignored it and went and got a girl raped...
When that became an issue, he wanted both of them to take the fall..? I mean..? TF..??
Lastly, remember, the opening scene, we see him introducing himself as a transfer student and also at the closing scene..? why do you think it was included? They don't just add those scenes for show.. it's likely he also left a scandal in his former school ..? it's a thought. PLUS who is that mysterious "uncle" that always calls him??
I might be wrong but he is NOT a good person.. this is the summary of my mini dissertation ...lol . Like I'll choose SJ to him any day because what you see is what you get to hidden agendas or unnecessary secrets..

I said it before and I thought I was going crazy.. people kept swooning over their "love" and I was wondering if I was watching the same series as them..? For starters, if it was the other way round and the ML put the bracelet on the FL, people would have lost their mind. I mean, the bracelet made him think he was in love 24/7... that is definitely Stockholm Syndrome in essence

It's precisely because I've watched Tunnel. Signal and Beyond Evil that made me decide to give this a trial... but I'm in episode 7 and I just cannot... The stupidity is beyond me. The incompetence oozing from the ML to FL is too much to ignore...

I started this drama on a high note...I watched and got soo consumed that before I realised what was happening I was already in episode 12... I laughed cause I didn't think it was all that but apparently, I'd been lying to myself...

I cannot get over the love-hate-dislike-love-friend(?) relationship between the two ML. It was refreshing... at one point I just wanted to jam their heads together and say Kiss... (you know, like kids do to their toys) cause the antagonism from Han and the goading from Dong-sik was too much...lol...

I loved how Dong-sik was able to show/hide his emotions behind his smile and sarcastic demeanour, always composed even when the disdain was oozing out from him at least until the end when he had to show his hand. He was able to capture pain and show it to the audience, his acting made me excuse everything he did because I sympathized with him a lot. He's a very good actor plus it doesn't help that he has a cute face and beautiful smile (i.e when he's sincere)

Inspector Han was a riot to watch, he's such a child with a one-track mind. He charges in with half-baked plans that fail almost all the time esp. when he does it alone. He's too "righteous", I don't know if that makes sense...

the character who got my biggest love and sympathy was Park. he was the most innocent of them all. I just hope he can repair his friendship with Dong-Sik cause I don't think he can last long on his own.

Overall, this series was very good. It started out strong and held out till IMO episode 12 when it started to drag. Apart from that, it is almost perfect. I'll recommend this series to anyone that is interested in watching a thriller with some bromance thrown in..

Ok, I love this movie like I really LOVE this movie. Everything about this movie landed well.. The casts, the ML and FL... everyone played their roles well heck even the Extras were putting in 100%. I love how satisfying the ending was, albeit painful but still entirely satisfying. I give it 10 stars because reasons... watch it and see for yourself. I'm trying not to give any spoilers so imma just have to ask you to watch it...

I hear you... but they do have an idea that once you put out a drama, it's up to the public to interpret it and as you can read, many people were upset with the way it ended. A filmmaker can never tell the viewers how to feel concerning a movie, our emotions are ours and will be used as we see fit.
Coming to your analogy of friends, according to you, its dumb and we shouldn't take some actor's characters seriously..? then I ask you have you been to friends fandom.. People are naturally passionate about things that evoke strong emotions. We're not demanding for a different end just something more than what was acted

EXACTLY!!!! They belittled Bong's "coming out" so to speak. He was literally tossed aside for the Queen to enter and pretend to be interesting. It was unnecessary and quite rude . The Emperor's love isn't this SY but Bong and they just expected us to accept her cause she said some curse words...??? WTF??? What of future Bong's feelings..??, How will he deal with heartache and his impending sense of loss..? He'll miss his lover and probably pine for a long time.
Girl IMO, they wouldn't have brought him back, the original SY tried to kill herself, she gave up on her life... (harsh, I know) but still facts. There was no reason to bring him back or as you suggested, a reincarnation would have occurred...

B****.... this is me all day. I mean why go through all that just to toss him back. Bong FELL HARD for another guy. He was a player, a straight guy so that's heavy for him to do but he did it. then to just switch him was just disrespectful. I knew it would be like that once they changed the Queen's thinking voice from Bong to hers..

Anytime I see a movie/series with this similar plot i.e Male soul entering a female body or vice versa, all I think first is what is the motive? what is the director/writer meaning to achieve..? because coming to this, I was riding a high until it started getting to the end. I knew in the back of my mind what the finale will likely entail but I wanted to see how they pulled it off. I was hopeful because the whole series is first class, I was hoping for a change from the norm.
...Well, in my humble opinion, THEY FAILED. Human emotions are one of the simplest and most complicated things to manoeuvre. I refuse to believe that Jang Bong Hwan can just simply go back to his time and ALL THE EMOTIONS he felt for the emperor would vanish??? just like that?? B**** where??? It's impossible.
Ok. I digress, coming to the Queen, the queen in the finale is NOT who the emperor fell in love with. She's basically an imposter in her own body. She doesn't have the personality of Jang Bong Hwan that enticed and held the interest of the Emperor for months. How will she explain reverting to formality?? He will notice a change and ALL that excitement that Jang Bong Hwan brought will be missing...I got frustrated at the end when Jang Bong Hwan was just thrown back into his world...?? and he just moved on..? like his world was not changed??? forever??? I mean he's a straight man that fell in love with a guy? did IT with a guy? that changes a person I don't care.
I'm just frustrated I don't know what I was expecting but that wasn't it...
APART from my personal hiccups, this is one of the most exciting series I've ever come across in KD. It had everything completely balanced.. humour, action suspense even more humour, perfect casting, great set and costumes. Everything was perfect. This is the first time, I ever consider re-watching a series.
