Its for all the reasons Luo grandma explained - he has no achievements and no means of supporting himself, much…
You could tell who rank higher in society of that era by the interaction between Madam Chen vs Madam Lin, how Madam Chen repeatedly putting down Madam Lin and reminding her that her family is just a merchant family.

I think you got it wrong, it is the other way around. Merchant families were considered the lowest rank in ancient China. The Lin family opposing the marriage is more likely got to do with Yixiu's mother being a convicted murderer than them looking down on Lou family status.

Why did the writers not think “hey if we make the SML want to kill her brother, how could a relationship bloom?”…
That's part of the main plot, he prioritize power over love. Her so called brother is trying to expose his wrong doing which put his whole family in jeopardy, of course, he will has to get rid of her brother.

is the ML a lord or a prince?
King, one of the many rulers of the states/provinces/kingdoms in the Empire. Emperor rules the Empire, Kings rule the states/provinces/kingdoms.

Well they don't even have any banks yet so I guess it stands to reason there would be no central bank. You don't…
"In ancient China, starting in the Qin Dynasty (221 to 206 BCE), Chinese currency developed with the introduction of standardized coins that allowed easier trade across China, and led to development of letters of credit. These letters were issued by merchants who acted in ways that today we would understand as banks."

am I the only one who is bothered by them using qing kingdom instead of nanqing in subtitles...
Nope, not really. Nanqing is bascially means Southern Kingdom Qing. When they refer to their own kingdom, they usually use Da Qing or Qing Gou which mean The Great Kingdom(Empire) of Qing or Qing Kingdom, respectively.

Nan = South
Qing = Kingdom's name
Gou = Kingdom/Country
Da = Great/Big/Huge
Bei = North

Title Jun Jiu Ling
"Jun" differentiates her from "Chu Jiu Ling" whom he thinks died in the fire.. (my interpretation) His character…
But then since he's not being formal, "You, with the last name Jun" or "Hey you, with the last name Jun" is more direct translation. The way Childe Ning address her is more direct translation of "Miss Jun".

To translate literally, he called her "Last name Jun" or "The one with last name Jun", so you could say he is calling her "Miss Jun".

I do agree with you that Liu Hao Ran's performance is confusing - he seems to have the same expression throughout,…
I agreed. To Arie2018, not sure if we watch the same show. I found the actress playing the part of Xiao Zhou acted very well. To me, she definitely exuded the beauty and charm and this coming from a man prospective.
