guys there's a certain user named Marwen ricky down in the comments that has posted a load of crap abt how the…
I wont discuss about said individual, but tbf, being a Chinese celeb, AB should've known better than challenging the CCP. We wont discuss if she deserves this or not, but her main market is China, so not like she didn't know what would happen.
It's refreshing to see Gao Han finally has a main role in Xu Kai's drama π₯Ή They've been co-stars in 4 dramas already but he's only a supporting role while XK got ML π
As much as I wish for it to happen, I dont think it will due to such bad scandals surrounding the show and the…
I guess scandal is the wrong term for it, more like controversy. I think the novel's audience is nowhere near the drama's hence it reached more people including gamers and esports fans. Also, the editor might not know much about gaming thus they didn't see anything wrong with it.
I found a comment that described the issues with the novel as to why it wasn't received well by esports fans. Personally, I can understand why.
[Quote] 1/ Most of the characters, teams, and matches are based on real people. here's a non-comprehensive list, but effectively, most everything is stolen from real life examples with extremely small changes. for example, ZGDX is clearly a riff on SKT (zgdx = china telecom, skt = south korea telecom), while the logo is a rip-off of the LGD logo, to the point that even the LGD team itself even called it out. even plot events like the outcome of games and in-jokes are taken from existing events. most notably, the series name and romance itself is based on the relationship between weixiao (ι«ε¦ζ) and su xiaoyan (θε°ε¦), which ended in a break-up. imagine someone writing fanfiction about you and you ex, but you get together in the story. i'd be pretty weirded out, ngl.
2/ The 'characters' are treated disrespectfully. consider the case of faker (ζηΈθ΅«), who's pretty much universally respected as the greatest league player of all time and a genuinely excellent role model. in the novel, faker has been transformed into ζεθ΅«, a guy who bullies people into quitting the game. huh. also consider WE, the team that weixiao devoted his career to. this team is similarly legendary - the first chinese team to win international recognition - and in the novel? they were renamed YQCB (δΈηΎ€θιΌ), which literally means 'a bunch of fucking losers.' okay then.
3/ The show itself is a poor representation of esports. ignoring obvious things like 'why are they playing a mobile game on PC?' people are pretty upset about two particular scenes - first, the scene where the female lead's ex says that he'd be willing to throw the finals to gift her new team a championship; second, the scene where a pro player overhears his girlfriend getting criticized by fans for saying 'it's whatever' if he loses, then ditches the match he's currently playing to carry her off the stage. esports is not a particularly easy or glamorous profession. you're effectively trading your youth for a chance at a dream - many players retire because of serious injuries from repetitive clicking or from spending 12+ hours a day practicing. characters treating throwing the game as something romantic or not taking winning seriously really does a disservice to the esports spirit - and it's especially uncomfortable and disrespectful when you consider these characters are based on real people.
So r they not gonna make season 2? They didnt get to go into world championship. Would love to see cross over…
As much as I wish for it to happen, I dont think it will due to such bad scandals surrounding the show and the novel. This drama received a lot of backlash and was hated by a lot of E-sport players and fans sadly.
coz people liked it...everyone's taste is different...its my all time fav drama n it makes me happy to rewatch…
I think you came into this wrong lol Don't put C-drama on the same scale as western shows or K-dramas bc they're not. Think of C-drama as your low budget web series (bc they are) despite being broadcasted on TV. Most of C-dramas are based on novels (though I think more like fanfiction) from female authors so expect a lot of cringe, unrealistic details, moments. Tbh, I think K-dramas used to be mediocre about other topics but romance but since they started branching out to western audiences and working with Netflix so they have a much bigger budget and better production, so it fits with your "taste/standards" more. And for the reason this show has such a rating, it'd be the same reason why Fifty Shades was so popular with female audiences at the time.
