It's been a while since I've finished Ashes of Love, but if I remember correctly, the reason why we haven't seen much of Xu Feng's past was because...there was nothing to see there, right ? He was loved by both his parents, they gave him everything he needed. Nothing to see there, just a happy little kid. On the other hand, my poor baby boy Run Yu was basically casted aside, in emotional sense.

So yes, I do agree he didn't know what it means to truly love someone. What he did to Jin Mi was the twisted 'love' he learnt from watching the Heavenly Emperor. Can't blame him for that.

And to answer the big question: was he good or bad ? That actually reminds me of that line from The Untamed: what is right, what is wrong ? Is acting in the only way your father taught you, not knowing there is another way, a bad thing ?

I'd say Run Yu is neither good nor bad. Or maybe it'd be better to say: he's both good & bad.
The world is not just black & white, and neither is he.
