I will only add that Charcoal and Mi in this life were not even connected with red string - string on the Mi's finger from a scarf, made by Charcoal and not Cupid's string. They loved each other even without a string (and I think that was the reason why red strings not working on her - their love was more powerfull). But if she died, her soul will be gone forever, that why Charcoal sacrificing that love to safe her.

If soulmates and visions are popular now, maybe Pha is gone because he "saw" Thanu and Wayu together, and since he always knew that it was Thanu who caught Wayu when he fell, then Pha decided that he was interfering with Wayu's happiness? Therefore he asked Thanu to take care of Wayu. That would explain why he couldn't tell anyone the reason, just as Phai can't tell Kit about himself and Thanu (because it sounds weird). I mean, it's ridiculous reason, but at least it makes sense.
