Thank you for reading, @Ocean. Ah, yes, I see you found out the bane of my existence when watching dramas. Mind…
I can never watch a drama if the ML is portrayed as a one-man army (especially in fighting) except for the Xianxia/wuxia C dramas... That's the main reason why I stopped watching Indian movies and moved to Kdramas where its a very small part and I can fast forward it..
Thank you for reading and joining the conversation, @Yogesh Jain. I always find conversations where people have…
I have so many that I would like to disagree upon but I think our main difference is in the prospective.
For Eg: You said, in my Oh my Ghostess, she worked at a different place and getting rid of the pesky power. However, I have seen many establishments operated by Husband and Wife where the both of them have their strengths and work on it. Even, during my Internship of 3 years I was working under such couple. They were both on their respective places, co-managing, arguing, disagreeing and finally reaching a mutual understanding.
I now have my own practice and have met with clients, where the husband says I don't know anything about our money, ask my wife as she manages everything regarding the finance and I am just looking after the marketing aspect.
Also, statistically... in real life, the women are the ones who end up making sacrifice for their family. So dramas usually are written with same prospective.
Not only that, I am also a reader with 300+ books on my shelf. I mostly read Fantasy Romance. Nearly 80-90% of the authors of such books are women. Nearly 95% of such books are written from the FL's prospective but in atleast 80% of those books, the ML is always stronger and intelligent than FL.
Also on the end note: Both for books and dramas, the major consumer are women. The women love it when the ML is super handsome and intelligent... The ML is after all their dream husband. So the writers have no other choice but to make it happen.
I feel so bad for the King. He is just caught up in both Kim Clan and Jo Clan. He is being used by both Clans.…
This was the life of the royals back in the day. Anyone can backstab them at anytime.. Thats why many of the legendary kings were cruel in their early years of establishing the kingdoms..
The problem is not with the writer.. the problem is with the network.. The network didn't sign the people for…
The actors themselves had admitted that the story is not ended and there will be a season 2.. Sometimes it takes time to create the perfect script. So I would rather wait than blaming the writer.
I disagree. 1 % of something - The ML dislikes FL only because she is set to inherit the property belonging to…
This is normal change which happens in every person's life after they get married. The marriage brings more responsibility .. The ML was living a carefree life.. marriage made him to take responsibility...
Wow, great article! It all makes sense reading this, and I think deep down we all knew it would, but even so it's…
Some additional recommendations to 3GGG
1) Ugly Alert ( FL is actually strong and at peak of her career and helps ML) 2) Five Enough ( Its a family drama) 3) Go Back Couple ( Regular married couple story) 4) Introverted Boss ( FL helps ML) 5) Strong Woman Do Bong Soon ( FL protects ML) 6) That Fool ( Strong FL and Weak ML) 7) Dinner Mate ( Its all about healing) 8) City Hall ( Both are Rivals in politics) 9) Divorce Lawyer in Love ( FL is more smart than ML).
Thank you for reading, @Ocean. Ah, yes, I see you found out the bane of my existence when watching dramas. Mind…
I usually don't mind ML saving FL from the goons.. bcs truth to be told.. Female are physically weak compared to Males..
However I am tired of ML saving FL from office project failures ( Mostly caused by FL's rival. FL herself is smart but her project will be sabotaged by jealous colleague so our ML comes to the rescue at the last moment.)
Nicely written article. My observation - Male leads are shown as jerks and they only become humane after meeting…
I disagree. 1 % of something - The ML dislikes FL only because she is set to inherit the property belonging to his father. So him being rude towards her is justified.
Also in most of these Jerk ML's.... They just didn't give a shit about others at the beginning. Which is true for everyone in their real life. There are very few people who show kindness to strangers in the todays world.. Once that person becomes someone of importance, they show their affection towards them.
While agree with most of the context especially the one about "Strong FL" .. However I don't agree with author where she mentions that in most dramas FL changes/gives up her dream for ML Female Lead (wherein she either forgoes her dream, changes it, or she ends up putting it aside)
1) It's Okay to Not Be Okay - The FL was a writer and was writing books even till the last episode of the series. The show ends up with them going on a road trip. This doesn't mean that she gave up her career. She is going on a trip to find more inspiration for her future works.
2) Vagabond - She was agent till last episode and she gives up her career bcs she wants revenge against a criminal which she cannot do any longer as a govt agent. This is the main plot for the season 2 and has nothing to do with ML.
3) Come and Hug me - She was an actress and she remained an actress till the end. She didn't change her dream or give it up for the plot. The drama wasn't about her rising to fame but about a Serial Killer who was caught at the end so obviously they didn't touch that part.
4) The Greatest Love - She was already 35 year old when the drama starts. Also she chose to protect her friends pregnancy due to which she was still hated by fans. This was the plot set from the beginning. Her dream didn't change for ML or story line. She was trying to be a successful tv actress and had achieved some amount of success when the story ends.
5) Angels Last Mission - She returns to the stage as ballerina (even after getting stabbed) on Ep 35 and even completed her performance. In the Ep 36 she hires management and goes back to physical therapy after her wound so she can resume her career. From start to the end... her dream never changed and she was still pursuing it.
6) Do Do Sol Sol - The FL hated piano. She didn't want to become either a piano teacher or a player. She only did it for her dad. She said it herself at the beginning of the drama that she no longer wants to play piano. After her father's death.. she grew up to love piano once again at a small town and chose to stay there. Her dream didn't change for ML. She was living a carefree life from the start to the end of the drama. There are many such carefree people in the world. It was her character from the start.
7) Dr Romantic - Her dream was to become a surgeon. She became a surgeon overcoming her fears. I don't understand why you even listed this as an example in this list.
8) Thirty but Seventeen - She didn't give up her career and had joined back to Violin school at the end of the series. She just decided to learn playing once again in Korea instead of Germany.
9) Wok of Love - The FL didn't have any dream at the start of the show. She joined Kitchen because only they were ready to hire her. While working in kitchen she discovered that she loves cooking and starts her Chef Training. So I won't say that she changed her dream, rather she discovered her dream working in the Kitchen.
I though agree on the below examples: 1) Bcs this is my first life 2) Fight for my way 3) Into the Ring.
I haven't watched the rest of them. So I am not sure about those.
yah me tooo everybody said that there's gonna be a cliffhanger and I don't want to be kept on the hook waiting…
I would say that the story which started in Episode 1 was properly completed even though it ended on cliffhanger. It was not a unsatisfactory ending.. it just left us wanting more.. Just like Ever Night series..
Sighs let's face it there won't be a 2nd Season andthe writer really did us dirty by expecting it to be renewed…
The problem is not with the writer.. the problem is with the network.. The network didn't sign the people for 2 seasons... Now they are reviewing the schedule of the casts and directors...
I'm on ep 1 and I kinda get the feeling that the younger brother (min) is the one who is monster not lee hyeon…
They kind of make it obvious from the beginning that who is the serial killer and who is the younger brother... its just we watch how ML comes to recognize them through the conversations between them.. and that's the best part of the show..
I think the Thai dramas are mostly lacking in the Script.. There are only few of them which have capable strong…
TVery True.. I think the lakron makers want to make it spicy.. so they force certain things into the drama which had no relevance to the storyline... For example: Mark and Paeng arc in this drama was dragged for long ... just to show Thit's jealousy..
I think the past male lead is kind of boring compared to the male lead in present times, but it is because of…
I have watched a couple of lakrons... They have their own charm.. However from my personal experience, I can't handle atleast half of the drama's I start in thai and usually drop them within 1 hour. For me, either these dramas get too melo, poor quality of video, ML who is abusing the FL..
