Main Couple Lukewarm , Good not Great

Rating: 8/10

Review

I somewhat enjoyed this drama. An 8 might be generous but there wasn't a lot technically wrong and I think others might enjoy it more than I did. It's a well-acted romantic comedy with an interesting premise, a pleasant setting, and plenty of relationship complications. It's predictable, but not necessarily in a bad way. I don't need every romance to reinvent the genre as long as the characters and relationships keep me interested.

I did have some issues with the character development and romantic chemistry, though. While there were enjoyable moments, I wasn't entirely satisfied with how some of the relationships were handled. Overall, it's worth watching if you enjoy Korean romantic comedies, but I wouldn't put it among my favorites.

Apparently, practically every guy in the place likes the same girl! I suppose I can make some allowances because Na-eun is awfully cute MOST of the time. However, I never quite understood what made her such a magnet for every man around her.

Her writing storyline annoyed me at times. As an author myself, I found her expectations rather unrealistic. Getting published is only the beginning. Most writers struggle to get noticed, deal with rejection and criticism, and have to work hard to build an audience. These days, you might even get accused of using AI! I also thought she was naive about the publishing scam. Writers need to research offers carefully, especially when someone is asking for money, and have a backup plan. Very few authors make a successful career out of writing alone.

The romance was more complicated for me. I liked Kang Woo, but I never felt much chemistry between him and Na-eun. There were plenty of awkward stares and romantic-comedy falls, but the chemistry felt lukewarm. I actually thought she had better chemistry with her longtime friend and housemate, Hyun-jin. He gave her the looks, and I liked that he didn't seem willing to indulge all her whining. Honestly, that might have been exactly what she needed!

Unfortunately, he made the classic mistake of waiting too long. He was so afraid of risking their friendship that he didn't take the next step, leaving Na-eun free to fall for Kang Woo. I was still rooting for Hyun-jin even at the end. I could genuinely have seen them together.

The David couple felt like a waste of screen time. We barely got to know them before being thrown into their relationship problems, commitment issues, and pregnancy storyline. I simply wasn't invested in them.

I also found the gay roommate's romantic reveal rather odd. I thought he was interested in the younger woman at Happy Together, so the eventual reveal about her best friend felt like a strange payoff to all that buildup. On the other hand, I liked the house owner's relationship with his friend. Their shared interest in cooking was sweet, and I appreciated that the drama didn't overcomplicate their storyline.

The reveal that the ex-girlfriend was behind the nasty notes was definitely a surprise. However, I didn't like how the drama made the jealous woman in the house seem suspicious, especially after her strange comment about wanting to see someone destroyed. It made me dislike a character I had previously enjoyed.

Ultimately, my biggest problem was that I just wasn't that invested in Na-eun or the main couple. I liked Kang Woo, but I wasn't convinced he was the right match for her, and I thought she had a more natural connection with Hyun-jin.

I don't regret watching it, and there were things I enjoyed, but I wouldn't watch it again. I'd recommend it with caveats. When you finish a romance wishing the heroine had ended up with the second male lead, it's difficult to be completely satisfied with the main couple!

8/10.
