I can see where a lot of the critical comments are coming from. There do seem to be a lot of nonsensical elements to this drama, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that they take away from the show. I think that the intent of this show is to make it silly and comical rather than realistic. (Although the addition of the serial killer seems kind of TOO serious for the show; however, it's too early to say that because I don't know where they are going with it.) The logic is really off sometimes though. The only thing that kind of bothers me is the fact that they accuse Punn of being the creepy one when I think Weir is actually the one being much creepier. Asking for photos from people is much different than making advances on your boss like that, no matter how much of a joke it is. (and obviously, Punn just isn't interested.) I just think that the other characters make it seem like Punn is the weird one which is nothing compared to when Weir acts very forward like that. It seems a little forced, that's all.

I mean, I kind of like how it shows how forcing a man into sex isn't okay. He did eventually end up falling for…
Yeah for sure. I definitely agree with you :)

I will never understand how I keep finding this movie in BL lists or BL recommendations, how can anybody think…
I mean, I kind of like how it shows how forcing a man into sex isn't okay. He did eventually end up falling for the woman. To me, it seemed like he didn't like the prince at all. It's a good storyline even if it doesn't contain the BL you were looking for. I think BL fans are quick to categorize anything that contains gay sex or just a bit of gay relationship.

I know exactly what you mean. I feel like most fans tend to ignore problematic parts in the story and judge more based on the cinematography and the chemistry of the characters. That usually works just fine, but at this point I've just had enough of these types of dramas being praised. This does not just happen in dramas either, this is apparent in many webtoons and mangas.

Thank you!! You have explained the issue with this drama so well. People praise this BL for being quite real-life…
I'm glad some people are starting to realize this. I like the way you capitalized on the sexual assault issue, it seems a lot clearer and more concise when you say it. Thank you for your comment!

Title HIStory4: Close to You Spoiler
To those of you being so critical of the relationship/romance between the brothers the show is meant to entertain…
I want you to realize how ignorant you sound. Essentially what you're saying is that it's okay to romanticize these toxic relationships because it's fictional. That it's okay for people to enjoy and fall into this sort of genre of media. It just presents a problem to overall societal issues. The LGBTQ+ community is the main focus of this drama. Why are they represented so grossly? It's almost as if their relationship is being fetishized?? Who knew. It's not a matter of dangerous media, which I know you are responding to. The issues go deeper than that. You could argue with me all day, but realize your toxic viewpoint and try to correct it. If you are interested in learning more then I will be willing to have a discussion with you.

This is a review I posted on Viki, please read if you actually enjoyed this drama. I want you to begin to understand how toxic this drama is. This is really short but needed. Just use your own judgement; I can't stop you from enjoying these types of shows, but I want you to at least consider your own viewpoint.

I don't understand how people are rating this show so highly. This show has so many ultimate cringe moments that make it just awful to watch. I wanted to give it a chance so I watched through. The cinematography is typical and arguably good, but there are just so many moments that turn this into a cringe drama. People say this is like real-life situations, but it really is far from that. You know from the beginning that if they include a fujoshi, it's going to be a notably worse drama. This is a show made by BL fans for BL fans. It's not representative of being gay in real life (some parts do, but it's overshadowed by the cringe). This show strikes me as something that only encourages the fetishizing of gay men by women. If you can take the cringe moments, then sure, watch it. But if you are actually legitimately enjoying this show, think about this: Do you really respect the lgbtq+ community or are you just using their lifestyle as your enjoyment?

Another note. There is rape in this drama. This is an unfortunately common trope to have in BL series. I think I've just become so desensitized to it because of how common it is in this genre. Not to mention the multiple times where there were just constant red flags in the ways these characters treated each other. Boundary crossing and issues with consent were just all over the place. When the characters actually got together, everything was fine, but that just doesn't resolve the issues to the build-up of the relationship. The actors were fine, but the storyline just doesn't meet the standard I was expecting of the HIStory franchise.

You might tell me -- "its just fiction, not real" or "if you don't like it just stop watching." But I need you to realize that isn't solving an issue. Do you think romanticizing rape is okay? Do you think the terrible representation of gays in the media should just be ignored? Dramas like this can contribute to deeper rooted issues in society, and I can delve into this deeper if you want me to. BL drama is just a small chunk of what is actually wrong.

As much as i love the HIstory series ,this one ,in my opinion,is the worst . I was excited at first but then it…
agreed. It's also just so problematic in the way these toxic relationships are romanced and made to seem okay. It's not realistic at all. I think I'm going to keep watching this because I want to speak about the issues presented throughout the series. So many of the target audience (straight females) are just not realizing how their interests can affect other people. It's just gross.

Writing and reading fiction is fun. It doesn’t mean you agree with said fiction. How is nobody understanding…
I completely agree with you. I believe this person (wei ying lover) is not worth your time at all, they are so hell bent on defending their obsession with gay relationships that they fail to see how hurtful this actually is to the community. You are completely right in this situation. I honestly feel bad for this person in the way they think. Hats off to you for defending this so well.

I'm pretty behind on this series (just finished episode 4) but I'm struggling to get through it. It just seems…
It's just so cringe I would not recommend. There's also just so many instances where boundaries are crossed and there is sexual assault. I'm sure you realized that from episode 3 and 4. Besides that, even when the couples do get together there is just like ultimate cringe moments that just transcend any real life situation. Sure, this is entertainment, don't get me wrong, but this just grossly represents the lgbtq+ community and only contributes to bad stereotypes. I can tell this is only targeted towards the straight female audience, and that's not a good thing.
