right, I have same thought. I think this rating do not do justice to this drama. this is prejudice cause they…
stop spreading lie, cast is good however the story is downfall.
The changes just make it worse:
1 They removed the secret agent.
2 Chu Ner, the Wei princess, was assaulted by Yan Xan’s soldiers , now second main lead and become wife of yan xan lol.
3 The crippled man who injured Chu Qiao and lost her memory is completely gone.
4 The underground merchant who fed the rats is also gone.
5 The locations and world building are a mess with no clear direction or narrative purpose.
6 Both the fight scenes and the overall intelligence/complexity of the plot have been reduced.
so it is not about cast but all about story.

why didn't they just cast the original actors or at least an older actress? this feels so wrong
Keeping the same cast won’t save the story, and smart actors won’t join a flat storyline anyway.

6 Both the fight scenes and the overall intelligence/complexity of the plot have been reduced.
Do you really think talented actors or actress would sign on just to help create another flat Season 2?

Guys, how’s the drama? The trailer looked sooo good 😭
yes but here: Where's the secret agent? Where's Princess Lang? Why did Princess Wei Chuner become the second main lead, wasn't she X by the Yan Xian soldier? Where's the cripple who harmed Chu Qiao? Where's the man with the rabbit who helped Chu Qiao? Where's Meng Feng? it is messy, reducing iq from previous season. but if you are new you could give a try. :) if you are old fan wait 9 years, hard bit.

Too good, huh? Where's the secret agent? Where's Princess Lang? Why did Princess Wei Chuner become the second main lead, wasn't she X by the Yan Xian soldier? Where's the cripple who harmed Chu Qiao? Where's the man with the rabbit who helped Chu Qiao? Where's Meng Feng? Messy, but 'good, nice'? You're just showing your true nature: dumb

I'm a viewer, not a writer, my review is based on fan expression. Kid, if you think everyone who reviews has to…
Learn to grow up, kid, not everyone has the same taste as you. You like the 'hooker princess' of Wei, and I like the Princess of Lang, who's a strong, clever rival to Yuwen Yu. Different tastes, different worlds. Lol.

Bringing in Zhao Chun Er instead of the Princess of Lang led to the show’s downfall. Every minute of watching…

there is a reason you arent a screenwriter,if this was how the drama was written,it would be the flop of the generation, stfu
I'm a viewer, not a writer, my review is based on fan expression. Kid, if you think everyone who reviews has to be a producer, then get off kisskh and go to China to take the entrance exams; that way, you can become a director one day.

when i dislike actor, iran kid?
So you're living in Iran, right? I get it, alright. Your rights are being reduced to zero, free speech, expression, even commenting is treated as hate. I understand why, because your world teaches you to stay silent, accept having no rights, care about nothing, and just live flatly, like grass to be stepped on. That’s your way of living. My review is just me exercising my right as a viewer, not talking shit or anything. If you don’t get that, it’s your problem. Your world isn’t mine. go write your own review iran kid.

I get why the drama went off a cliff and won't return to Season 1 glory, they removed the secret/spy agent elements and turned clever characters into average ones. But I didn't expect the rating to drop to just 4.3! lol That's unbelievably low; it should at least be around 6. Huh, wow. And making a princess who was assaulted by soldiers the main lead? Nice try, but yeah… that didn't end well. Failed so hard. lol drama list rating 7.7 nice compare to 4.3

wtf the rating
2010s Golden Age:
Talented directors who understood visual storytelling
Writers who crafted complex characters
Willingness to take risks
❌ 2020s Decline:
Safe, formulaic choices (focus on "popular couples" only)
Censorship pressures (complex political/spy plots get cut)
Commercial priorities over artistic vision
Churn over quality (produce more, care less)
Loss of creative veterans (replaced by less experienced teams)
Why 9 Years of Waiting Became a Joke ⏰
The original Princess Agents (2017) had:
Strong ensemble cast
Multi-layered political intrigue
Powerful female characters with agency
Willingness to be dark and complex
⏰Rebirth (2026) appears to have:
Narrowed focus to one romance
Removed complex supporting characters
Played it "safe"
Lost the original's boldness.
Most outrage is: they take princess lang and replace with princess wei as we know x by soldier, losing dignity. story is flat lol

Once a complainer, always a complainer.When a 20ish or 30ish female actor is starring a 16 or 17 years old character…
wrong, character is good and fine but story is joke, because Yuan Chun loses all narrative value, so the focus shouldn't shift to her. The one who should drive the downfall is Xiao Yu. Wasn't she the one who, alongside Yuwen Huai, reduced Yanbei to ruin? In the novel, she even becomes Queen of Yan precisely because Yuwen Yue chooses Chu Qiao, which triggers the central conflict. With Lang State’s backing, Yanbei then successfully stands against Wei. here break down in detail :

Xiao Yu + Yuwen Huai brought Yanbei to hell
In the novel, Xiao Yu (Nan Liang crown princess & head of the spy network) actively coordinates with Yuwen Huai to fracture Yanbei's early faction, cut off supply lines, and destabilize Yan Xun's rise. She isn't a passive observer; she's a strategic aggressor.

Yuwen Yue choosing Chu Qiao triggers Xiao Yu's rise
Yuwen Yue's alignment with Chu Qiao shifts the Wei military-intelligence balance. Yan Xun, now isolated from Wei's core, must secure Nan Liang's backing to survive. Xiao Yu's marriage to Yan Xun becomes a geopolitical necessity, not just a romantic or tragic footnote.

Lang State (Nan Liang) supports Yanbei vs. Wei
Xiao Yu is the diplomatic bridge. Her control of the underground spy network ("Nine Hearts") and her statecraft keep Yanbei from being crushed by Wei. Remove her, and the Wei-Yanbei-Lang triangle collapses into a simplistic revenge plot.

Yuan Chun loses narrative value post-assault
after her trauma, Yuan Chun's arc shifts from political player to psychologically fractured survivor. While that can work in a character study, it cannot drive a war-and-espionage sequel. She reacts to events; Xiao Yu orchestrates them.
