I think some STEM females had high hopes for this drama. In Asia, the middle East and the West, female STEMs are 1 to 10 if not more. In my day, 1 to 50 there is no way we could lack confidence. We would have been destroyed and I mean that. I had a boomer, a machine design professor once say women just dont think this way. Even though computers (female computer analylists) existed since WWII. I'm from the West, btw. If you're not a female STEM, you dont get the frustration .
The other stuff lacks common sense, if you go to boy girl college for computer science or relateble field. You would know how boys dress, because you're observant. Look one of my favorite STEM couples is of course Sheldon and Amy (Big Bang). Amy was never a push over even if she lacked social graces and her science was fierce. They challenged each other. Cute doesnt have to mean shy and goggly eyed. Felicity was cute but confident (Arrow) . Who could forget Abby (NCIS) she inspired many female scientists today, she played it cute but confident.
Many will watch and say just another cdrama but don't understand how many people were looking for a cdrama that didn't undermine women in STEM field. It matters...
Squid Games popularity stems from relating people all over the world. It's not the game of death scenarios that has people hooked. It's the children games. Across all discussion boards...no matter what country, culture, race, gender, age or class, most of us has played these games. How can some of you miss that?
It's amazing to hear the different versions of Red Light Green Light from across the world and yes I know that's NOT whats it's called in Korea. Some are specific to Korea but like the old man said he was trying to bring back some of the feelings of his childhood. Game of death would not have been my choice but it was a game for corrupt people so to speak. Most of us who watched this was suddenly thrown back in time to when we were kids. Most of us yelled at the TV, telling people to get up or don't you dare move. That's how it differs, thats why 90 countries are watching it. So no... it can't compare to other game of death films. BTW...I dont look at tempered glass the same way anymore...lol
im only on episode 13, and have to say i really do not like Xiao Wu...shes really annoying to me...whiny, childish…
This is actually the first cdrama...where I see only friendship between ML and FL. That is hilarious...XZ NEVER gets the girl. What is that??? I died ....she comes off as his sister. 30 plus episodes of sibling interaction and I actually expect nothing more. Director...she played cute too well...way over the top. She couldn't even hold a brush to write...sigh.
I don't see a season 2 at all unless they locked him in contract. Learn from Marvel cdrama studios. I think this is it folks...I just dont think Xiao Zhan liked this production...just a guess. We'll see...
Most don't want to say the obvious...this drama is boring. Ironically the fantasy cdrama bar has risen and this drama is subpar. Five years ago it would have been good but released in 2021 ...it lacks alot. Truthfully we expected more. The books have alot of material but this production team did not translate it well.
Comics/manga have tons of material. Its a producer job to cut it down for live action. Keep the meat cut the fat. This drama has sooo much fat. I can literally see the manga pages turning of unnecessary conversations unfold on my TV. Marvel and DC comics have 70 plus years and thousands of stories. It would have NEVER worked in the movies if they didnt cut away 90% percent of it. Keep the meat of the story. This could have been great...too bad.
I agree discover Battle of Changsa. This film reminds us of the great filmaking in China. If you're wondering where are the great cdramas. This is it. No campiness, no bad acting, no bad cgi, no bad extras. Every inch is thought out. To be blunt, we don't get too many licenses for these dramas overseas. We usually get the light fanfare nighttime soaps. They sell I guess but it gives such a bad reputation to the rest of cdrama. I was biased like many to cdrama. I humbly apologize for that after seeing this drama. There are incredible filmmakers in China just as any other country whose voice is not heard. Listen to this one.
Why is this female lead always in the same cdrama with just a different spin? They assembly lined a half a dozen of these and spit them out the same time. Now Allen Ren is doing the same thing. As a matter of fact, they should work together and it would be a match made in heaven. They actually might make something noteworthy.
So I waited like everyone else got to episode 48 and pause. The longest pause. I'm well aware that subs are a privilege so I decided to use a translator. Google was out, its audio recognition seems nonexistent but Microsoft was very good. It helps a lot that it was dubbed. The translator wouldn't work as well on dialect. I got about 80% and the rest was self-explanatory. I'll explain on review when we all catch up.
