Just watched episodes 11 and 12 and I thought I'd give a summary since the plot thickens:
HR and QSC pretend to be government officials to investigate the kerosene fire. But everybody says it's because of the earthquake, no kerosene. It's suspicious how consistent their stories are. Also, they're under 24/7 surveillance. (Kerosene is a big deal because they don't have it there naturally. So if they have it, it would be considered treasonous.) (Edit: Kerosene didn't exist back then, so I'm not sure if this is taking creative license or if I mistranslated. The word is 火油 which is literally fire/flammable oil.)
HR's girl cousin is nice to QSC and gets HR jealous. Her family has shops in the area, so she offers them her resources. QSC later points out that cousin is only nice to him in front of HR, to get one over HR, and suggests that HR be nice to her cousin instead of demanding (which works).
YM (HR's father's student, and the one who was supposed to be investigating but got poisoned) confesses to HR that he always liked her and tried to give her the jade bracelet from his mother. She rejects him saying she sees him like a brother. He thanks her for her honesty and tells her she's still important to him and should feel free to rely on him.
HR and XH (the girl she rescued) run into a girl from the brothel. That girl is XY (Xiao Yue) and the whole brothel is associated with Black Dragon Clan (which they've been investigating). HR and XH agree to give her a new identity and money in return for information.
XY is dead, but they think she buried her locket and it's important. But the town's officials find them and lock them up. The guy they found who was telling the villagers to lie, lied and said he saw them burying the girl. Also, they're imposters. They wait in the jail cell.
(QSC asks HR if she'd like to hear a story and she says no. But the next scene, he's telling her about a fish as big as his ship. And wouldn't she like to see that in person? She says yes. He says, "come with me, I'll take you to see the four seas (everywhere)". *swoon*)
YM comes in official gear to take the "imposters". Then he tells them to go home and they will reassign investigators. HR doesn't like that because it would give the bad guys time to get rid of the evidence.
HR and QSC disagree about what to do. QSC would also like HR to be safe. He says to decide in the morning. She says, "I'm going to act like you agreed to help investigating."
That night, Mr. YH shows up and wakes up HR to tell her it's too dangerous and he's taking get away. QSC can handle it by himself, and Mr. YH can come back and help him. HR says she can't just abandon QSC because because he's important to her. Mr. YH gets emotional and slips up in his response, and HR takes off his mask.
He says he couldn't tell her, because she had such a (blind?) crush on him. But he feels better now knowing that the real him is who she likes.
She asks him if he was Mr. YH actually. He says it's an identity he came up with so he could investigate the treasure map. His adoptive father has half. Someone else has the other half and probably killed his father for it. His father asked him not to investigate, but he can't just let his father die without closure. (Oh, and he did give that Jin dude what he asked for, when he left.)
I watched episodes 9 and 10 and wow. SC saving HL's father in the past was surprising to find out. It's weird…
I don't think SC saved HR's dad in the past. He got to where dad was recuperating ahead of HR (after eavesdropping on her conversation with her father's favorite student) and saved dad. Dad wanted to take him in as an adopted son, for the life debt, and SC was like no way in hell (because he wants to marry HR).
I do find myself over analysing sometimes though. Just the premise of her being kidnapped and then married by…
She wants to leave because her dream is to be a "daxia" (vigilante martial artist like Mr. Yun He). It's why she ran away from her (cushy) family to begin with. She does not want to be married and be a traditional woman.
They had a drunken one night stand, and that's partly why they were going to get married. (Because he's taking responsibility for her, but obviously he also likes her.) But she just wants to escape and be a hero than be "somebody's wife" even if that somebody is there head of the island.
I actually feel bad for the HR because he won't let her go no matter what, and he thinks he can make her happy without letting her pursue her dreams, and nothing she says gets through to him. Like almost everyone else in her life (except her dad), he seems to think she should like to be traditional woman and be happy with it. He's also the final authority on the island, so she can't just piss him off. (That, and because she needs freedom and access to find the map of the waterways in order to escape.)
The story made it very clear that the first time, he was pissed at her for hurting him (on the neck) but he thought it was just because they had premarital relations. The second time, he let her do it on purpose "to get it out of her system." She was really upset about that because she expected him to dodge (well within his abilities) and instead he took it way further than she wanted. She did not want or expect to hurt him that time.
In one of the trailers I think there is another girl witch he saves. I hope he's not getting her as a second wife..if…
I think it's just too make HL jealous. It's her older cousin, who doesn't really know his pirate life (afaik). The show is setup and advertised as a ML who is single-mindedly in love with the FL.
