This was the intention of the writer from the beginning. She wanted to show us this. She planned the ending first before other plots. She wanted to give us a beautiful ending for Sunjae and Sol, and the director made it happen like how she imagined.
And this is exactly why the memory loss was important (Writer Lee Shi Eun said this herself), The Sunjae, the one who suffered and grieved for 15 years was the Sunjae she wanted to save, this was the story she wanted to tell.
I fell in love with Writer Lee Shi Eun’s work even more.
We can clearly see how depressed Ryu Sunjae’s character looks in episode 1. His faint smile, his sad eyes, his emotional voice during his final performance of Sudden Shower/Sonagi onstage.
Then the Ryu Sunjae in the final episode is the total opposite of the one in ep 1. Happy, cheerful, lovely.
How Lovely Runner starts vs how it ends contradict each other and that’s one of the reasons viewers feel some extraordinary attachment to the drama.
Cried while reading the 16th ep script, cried during the first ep release + wrap up party, cried during the final episode screening and all other times he probably won't reveal too..
