I am glad Li Lianhua's lies are coming to an end in the next (27th) episode. The kid deserves the truth though I enjoyed LLH's inventiveness, lol. I am really enjoying the trio and their dynamic.

I dropped it because of the bad ending. And before that I skipped a lot.

From what I have read, I hope too, but this particular ending I can actually accept (usually I drop dramas like this) considering that Li Lianhua refuses all help and carries so much guilt.

I don't think this novel is translated yet. Maybe we have some Chinese speaking/reading members? I will beg for spoilers. I really don't want to drop another drama because of the bad ending. I really like the 6 episodes we got so far. Thank you.

Li Lianhua's story mirrors Mei Changsu's from NIF (and to extent Xiao Se's from The Blood of Youth) , he was poisoned, the poison changed his appearance so no one can recognize him and will eventually kill him. He even has a martial sweetheart. I guess the tropes are recyclable. Even so, I binged all 6 episodes without regret. I live for ancient Chinese CSI. :D

I should have learned from the experience and not start C-drama before it ended. Ah, well, I certainly won't start Legend of Anle now. I might just wait a year or so for Joy of Life 2, lol. They will not change the ending of THAT novel, the fans would burn them.

From all the comments I can see that I wasted my time on this drama. Dropped. I really can't watch the rest.

Can anyone spoil for me the fates of secondary characters? The two sisters, the general... etc.

Well, at least we have these eight episodes. They introduced me to two great actors, Zhang Xincheng especially. Will re-watch and re-read novel indefinitely.

It's a cliffhanger of a sort: first case comes to satisfactory conclusion and the second case starts. So it's a cliffhanger for the second case. But, I think you'll be happy if you watch. The leads are exceptional.

As @Michiru said, the last official episode (36) is open ended, but epilogue (ep. 37) gives definite happy ending.
