Did I cry at the end? Yes, I did. Was I overall satisfied? Yes. The drama could have used some story streamlining, they spend too much time on demon hunter exam and too little on the main mystery. The characters were the best part of the drama, I loved, loved all four of our mains. It will never happen, but I would watch season 2.
While waiting for new episodes, I binge-watched half of Maiden Holmes. The setup is similar, Zhang Linghe in the main role, a group of friends solving crimes. The entire time, I was like: "Where is the brick guy?" The answer: in the other series. 🤣🤣🤣

They didn't die, they became immortal because Ye Baiyi transferred his power to Wen Kexing and he exchanged it with Zhou Zishu. The kid from episode 37 is from Four Season manor. They are still teaching the students.
About CCTV ending, I see both points of view - that it's exact same ending and that it's more definite ending than the one on IQIYI. That is the power of editing - the same shots tell a different story. I always believed that they have reunited, so this ending only told me that I was right. ;)
I say it's a perfect ending for my re-watch. I am going slowly and savoring this beauty.
