I think it was more of he had to get his job done. Men during that time had to have offspring. It was their duty not a choice. Also probably he liked her at the start but they fell out quickly. Personally, from that scene when he visited her and they talked a bit about the painting on the wall, i can see how someone can fall for her. She isn't a vain person. But also it has to be someone who gets her and they are on the same wave length. But does she turn really evil later? I haven't reached that part yet so i have no idea what happens

I agree! Well to me it was around ep 25/26 when they wanted to get concubine Qiao. The separtion tactic was a lazy writing. The screen writer really does lack imagination. And from what I've read she is going to use it more. I liked the leads and i was totally into the drama but not anymore. I'm just watching for the actors and the visuals.

From what i remember, it was mentioned earlier on but i forgot which ep this was in. Concubine Qin was a maid. When Lingyi fell sick she spent the night by his side taking care of him. So madam Xu decided to thank her for that by making her a concubine. Don't know if there's more details to it that will be mentioned in later episodes tho.
