"which is absurd considering gang usually very loyal to each other" lol are you sure.......?
I wouldn't say it's an exaggeration; it's a demonstration of fear. This is especially true given the fact that a lot of them had already built a life for themselves during the 11 years that he was gone. They were already familiar with having a life without him. But, yeah, you are entitled to ur opinion. Sorry if my initial comment came off as aggressive idk....
Some of the reviews and comments don't do this drama justice. It's so surprising how many Kdrama stans will eat up plotless/cliche rom-coms but this one y'all are too critical of. People saying “no expression,” “no plot,” or “no one to protect”—like, that’s the whole point, you guys. Being in that life made him so unbelievably lonely; he didn't even know how to react when his brother died. He understood that he was stuck in a cycle, alongside his brother and every other friend he had in the gang. Just because he doesn’t fit the stereotypical “lonely hero with a weak spot to protect” doesn’t make his so-called “plotless” story any less valid or worthy.
Nam Gi Jun is not a character who was living a regular life before his brother was killed, he was already in the gang, he knew the system all too well, so ofc he wouldn't have the expressions you want him to. That numbness, that flat expression—it’s not a flaw. It shows how desensitized he’s become after years of surviving in a violent, broken world.
So just vibe, y'all just vibe. Stop being so critical and ruining it for potential viewers. damn.
I dont know how it took me so long to find out about this show, but im so glad i came across this. i saw it while…
I feel exactly dis same way about this drama. I found it randomly four months ago, I was so intrigued I literally put my phone down just so I can focus and aww man it was worth every second. The acting performance ughh, I hate dat it ended.
Here again to say, gosh some of y’all are absolutely sick. And also the way some of u are using the “I have the ability to perceive things from all sides” mentality to secretly defend this man is even more sickening. Y’all need help and stop watching too much drama damn, this is real life and most men don’t see women as humans believe it or not. Seriously what on earth is wrong with y’all?
If only you used the same energy u have for defending men like this on women, I can envision all the female K-pop idols and actresses who wouldn’t have committed suicide.
Read the article, read the comments and all I gotta say is some of yall are sick….may God help us all. But, more importantly I hope Kim Sae Ron rests in peace that poor girl (she reminds me of the kids that were said to be groomed in the Nickelodeon documentary).
Maybe it's because I've been watching dramas for so long, but I just can't get into most of the dramas that come out these days. The recycling of narratives to appeal to Western audiences has become so prevalent that it is almost exhausting. I didn't realize I was doing it, but I started viewing kdramas from more than a decade ago. I’m talking Kdramas from the late 1990s. Squid Game was a drama I enjoyed, but others, such as My Demon or The Glory, make it clear that the individuals who appreciate them are unfamiliar with the genres or are easily impressed. It's just that for a long time; every year, there are always more than five good dramas.
Maybe I’m tripping cause I usually watch thriller/horrror/mystery stuff. But I can't find much nice things. We're more than halfway through the year, and I only like two Korean dramas, it’s like the charm has worn off. I don't want it to happen though.
(Like c’mon guys The Glory is like a makjang drama but with a finer cast that also happens to be on Netflix, but alr)
While I originally like the character Yi Seo I have to make it clear that most of the fault lies in the writer of the show. Yi Seo had so much potential to be a very complex character, yet the writer made the choice of addressing minorities (Toni & Hyun Yi) through her. Addressing sensitive topics such as racism or transphobia in the way they did is not a proper decision to make.
Racism: Not only did Yi Seo say you’re not Korean, she said something in the lines of you can’t be Korean with that skin (the dominant reason she didn’t believe Toni was Korean was the color of his skin and she made that known). She was right when she said he wasn’t legally Korean but her reasoning there was quite prejudice. Also Yi Seo said she was gonna help Toni find his parent, she didn’t actually do it, Seroyi did. Remember Toni found his grandmother (his father’s mother) coincidentally because of the flyers Seroyi put up, in which he was also fined for 100, 000 won. This is episode 11 btw for reference.
Transphobia: the fact that someone refers to another person with honorifics doesn’t mean they can’t be transphobic. In the club scene, Yi Seo asked Hyun Yi why she was in that club when there’s transgender clubs in Itaewon (basically alluding to the fact that Hyun Yi shouldn’t be there). Yi Seo despite becoming closer with Hyun Yi never properly addressed or apologized for what she said and I have to say it is the fault of the writer and their lazy writing. However, it still makes Yi Seo an unlikeable character.
The least the writer could’ve done is shown regards for the subjects of the sensitive topics and properly depicted the weight of such wrong doing instead of using Toni and Hyun Yi as just plot devices to make characters like Seroyi look kinder
Sexual harassment: around the beginning of Itaewon class, there was a scene where Seroyi was drunk and Yi Seo kissed the unconscious Seroyi. That is a morally and sexually inappropriate behavior that shouldn’t be tolerated no matter the gender, it was rather disturbing. I searched this up and it’s episode 4, so you can check it out if you think I’m lying.
I hope in the next couple of years or months when you become mature you can truly see the disturbing flaws of her character despite the fact that it was disturbingly romanticized. Also Yi Seo wasn’t the only character that was poorly developed all the other characters were too.
No I wasn’t saying she was groomed, that’s why I used the word “borderline” I was just saying that it is weird how their love story developed…how it developed makes him look like a borderline pedo to me. That’s how groomer’s move in real life. U don’t have to agree with me. I’m just a viewer with an opinion like most people here.
I mean it’s true if the show didn’t have the unhinged time skip it had and Seroyi falls for her/ realizes his feelings for her before that time skip, he would’ve most definitely looked like a pedophile.
During their initial encounters Yi Seo was a minor fresh out of high school and Seroyi was pushing 30. Like that’s not weird…?

Mariam Webster: Borderline; “being in an intermediate position or state : not fully classifiable as one thing or its opposite
a borderline”
