It doesn't matter, we don't need flsahbacks(that much) remembering that the character has gone through this and…
Well I never said we needed the flashbacks but the purpose of the flashback was obviously to allow us to see wat defines the characters so we could empathize or feel for dem but it failed it purpose that’s wat I was trying to say

As someone who has been reading the comments in Squid Game and Alice in Borderland, this narrative is very disingenuous.…
Idk if it is a proper time for me to jump in as I didn't read the rest of the argument but I wanna share my thoughts...Last year when AIB came out I couldn't wait to watch it, I was too excited that I decided to read some of the comments on MDL to get me going but sheesh the comments totally ruined the drama for me. People had lots of criticisms and they were actually from og Jdrama fans who thought AIB was an overrated flop and that there were better Jdramas out there.

I only watched AIB two days ago (yeah that's how much time it took for me to settle and watch the drama). I don't think it's an agenda or anything I just think the popularity of SG brought in new viewers for AIB they happen to have critics about AIB too.

I, without fail, trusted when people said AIB was better than SG, and that was because AIB was a choice I had before SG. Having watched AIB I have to say that I was a little disappointed (maybe because I had too many expectations), but I can swear it's not an agenda bcuz honestly the belittling of SG made me watch AIB......... I think we should be able to conclude that the continual comparison of these shows ruined the shows for the viewers as it did for me.

Also, as absurd as it may sound, I've never taken sides with kdrama stans, but AIB stans are more troublesome in this case, you know why? that's because when Sweet Home and AIB both came out at the same time, AIB stans did the same thing, despite the fact that AIB and SH had nothing in common except the release date.

Ok let me be honest in regards to the plot AIB was interesting but the show was also disturbing.

-Ok first, the characters in AIB were soo bland, yeah they were really basic. (I think we can all agree that the structure of the characters was so weak it was almost as if they didn't go through any development).

- The female characters' potential was wasted, making it difficult for me to watch. It seemed as though they were men's assistants, particularly the female protagonist. I couldn't help but crave more of the female lead's past, but they just skipped right over it, also, did anybody note how Usagi's backstory flashbacks stopped right after she took Arisu in?
And the women in the drama were treated like they were only there to show off their bodies.

- There was also an attempted sexual assault scene, it so weird how some of the fans fancied the assailant.

- Also, the writer squeezing in barely a glimpse of a background story right before the main character is going to die was so weird that I had little sympathy for the characters who died.

It is even weirder that nobody seems to care for these things.

I literally think you read my mind I remember once I was on an article that was talking about Kdrama gamechanger or something but a lot of people disagreed with the article and went ahead to say that dramas like Move To Heaven and Navillera were kdrama game-changers, I just couldn't seem to wrap my head around it because like you implied I was so bored like the structure of sad stories is very common in kdramas I couldn't just understand what the gamechanger was. Whew, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels like this.

And Stove League is one of my favorite kdrama, I remember when it was ongoing and I would just tell myself every weekday, "Stove league comes out on Fridays let's make it to Friday." I just loved it so much.

I certainly do read all comments, and I appreciate your response! Bad Guys was a popular one I came across when…
Yeah I watched both the sequel and the drama spin-off but I personally like the drama spin-off more. The movie did have interesting characters and good fight scenes but it didn’t quite get in my head as much as the dramas did and that’s because the drama goes a little more into the main characters backstory which is very important in antihero dramas like u had implied in the article...and the fight scenes in the drama was soo thrilling. So it’s the drama spin-off for me.

And for Vincenzo, it’s mostly comedy so it will take looking beneath the surface of the comedy to see how/why I found his character to be creepy. 😃

IDK if you’ll read this but...My favorite favorite antihero kdrama has to be Bad Guys I would categorize them to be maybe Nominal hero and Unscrupulous Hero they were fighting on the good side but all they cared about was getting their sentences reduced as they were already in jail, despite having a few comedic relief they were so violent. I totally recommend it.

The other one I fancied was Vincenzo. I would actually categorize Vincenzo to be a Pragmatic antihero, Unscrupulous Hero, and even a Nominal hero. Vincenzo was a man with moral standards as he was portrayed as a smart lawyer who thinks in a very diabolic expensive way but honestly low key he was really creepy, he had a good backstory, but if you really took the time to look into him you will realize he was quite creepy.

He had decided to remain reserved for most of the story at the beginning bcuz of his promise with his partner but when his mother died shit went down. Despite the fact that a lot of people didn’t like the drama cuz it was comedic, I feel like the writer had used that comedy to cover up how much of a disturbing person he was. There was a scene he talked about how he killed his foster parent’s killer right after torturing the killer to the point of attempting suicide with a literal calm face, and the way he killed the main villains of the story was so brutal.

And in the final scene of the drama he said, “Two days ago, I used three Luciano family members as manure for the vineyard.” He used humans as fertilizers I- And this was such a good article I loved reading <333

Lee Dong Wook from Strangers from hell wasn’t a n anti-hero but the main character Jong Woo was an antihero tho.....

Okay I just have to say I relate to you so much and you have quite a creative mind with the stories that you wish certain pairs ended up with. I would say though that the actors I’ll love to see together are, Ryu HwaYoung and Woo DoHwan they were in the drama Mad Dog they had slight romance in the drama but I would love to see them together.

Jeon So min and Ko Gyung pyo was also in a drama called Cross and it was so obvious they liked each other but they never got in a relationship...and my last would be Song Kang and Lee Dohyun I wouldn’t say I necessarily ship them I just wanna see them together in another drama and that might happen if DoHyun gets casted for season two of Sweet Home.

As someone who’s wrote an article before and is quite aware how hard it might’ve been I just wanna say good job with this, it was a nice idea and a great read.

While I'm still in the stage of dropping kdramas like crazy as a result of boredom, I have to say I disagree. I personally didn't think that kdramas are getting westernized, this is because the reason for my boredom with kdramas is because of how they still stick with their originality, yes, I mean those cliches that make kdramas what they are. I have a feeling my explanation will be horrible but here goes.

Japanese dramas do stick with their originality but there's Alice in the Borderland, Kdramas aren't the only ones attempting to reach out to international audiences, Jdramas are starting to do the same. To be honest with you, I don't think there's anything wrong with it, and with this fact, I believe neither Jdramas nor Kdramas are losing their originality.

Yes, there had been dramas like Extraccuricalar, Sweet Home, Vincenzo, and even Kingdom that people claim are being westernized, but it's not if you watch Korean Movies you'll get what I'm saying.

Neither Jdramas nor Kdramas lost their originality and neither of them is doing it better or worse they still have their 'uniqueness' even if 80% of their uniqueness is their tiring cliches I still think they have their charms because those charms got me to start watching these dramas and judging from the fact that I'm getting bored of those 'charms', I promise you they still have their originality.

I not gonna deny that they trying to improve though, but regardless they still have their uniqueness. This was an AMAZING READ btw!!

I liked the ending. There will always be people who won’t be happy whether she ended up with Jae Eon, Do Hyeok…
Her choosing him was exactly what was stupid about the whole thing. To put it plainly her development was stupid and non-existence. She started off as a character who had so much insecurities about relationships only to end up choosing someone who still makes her insecurities linger.

The problem isn’t people not being able to settle for “what she wanted for herself,” the problem is in fact the constant idea of making FLs like Nabi always end up with some jerks. Her none existent development was the problem, it’s almost like thinking a person is growing, and taking steps to higher levels only to find out that this person was going in a circle that leaves them at the position they originally were.

Yes, her decision to be with him might be the type of stuff to happen in real life, but the message it sends is illogical and irritating, why? Because her ending him with him represents a clear romanticization of the toxicity of Jae On and Nabi’s relationship as well as any other relationships similar to theirs.

Review Nevertheless,
This is exactly what I thought, kdramas are so stuck with the cliche of having women like Nabi always end up with some assholes. I think Nabi would’ve been so much better alone smh
