No I dont think K-Drama romance is dead! I think its just bad casting.
Hotel Del Luna: hated who they casted as male lead! While I like the actor himself, I don't feel he was fit for the role, though he managed, i felt others could have rocked it!
My Absolute Boyfriend: bombed in my opinion all due to bad casting.
Currently watching Itaewon Class: Love Park Seo Joon & the short haired Manager! However I think the loved interest of Park's character (can't for the life of me remember her name) is poor casting. I feel no connection between the two! Chemistry or friction, she literally comes off on screen as just an actress. A role player.
However there are a few drama's that had awesome casting but just didnt fit well in the roles.
Touch Your Heart: everyone Loves the two leads together! They rocked in Goblin as well! The issue came in the roles they where casted to play. (I will call male-lead "reaper"/ and female lead the "queen" as i can't recall names well.) Reaper as an actor didn't fit the shy innocent lovey type that was the alter ego of the stone faced lawyer he played as. Queen also doesn't fill her character role in this drama.
IMAGE is a big part of this too! I understand that actor's have to be able to play more than just role's that fit their career Image. However when you have only ever played (certain) roles and your success and career is highlighted due to you'r IMAGE which was built by said roles, to suddenly play such a backwards character clashes with the role the actor is to play. There for defeating the purpose in casting that actor.
(Keep in mind this is all my opinion and)
