The order of the scenes kinda confused me. Now I need to go back and rewatch where exactly he already knew.

I read somewhere that he went to work late because he visited the police station to do the report. So maybe during the interview he already knew she can speak. That's why he asked her does she really cannot talk.

I know right? How pathetic and embarrasing of needing other people to clean the mess you made. But that's the charm of this drama. It shows it is normal people make mistakes, and that people should be brave and bear their own mistake, and only then you can move forward.
