Title Snowdrop Spoiler
Can someone please explain to me what is Soo Ho? Is he a NK spy? Is he “bad”? I’m kinda lost lol
Soo Ho is a NK spy, employed by his father in a scheme that gives Soo Ho's father money, while giving some ambitious SK politicians an insurance policy to win the upcoming election.

At this moment, Soo Ho hasn't defected, but it is already being foreshadowed that his "ideologies" will change.

It is up to you to see him as bad or good. Not all NK people are bad, just like not all SK people are good.

agree with you, in ep 3 and 4 well ok they clarified some accusations (not so directly tho as some could easily…
That's the thing. The corruption has been localized into 4 people, and after Ep. 4, it seems these 4 people are doing this black op without consent from their party leaders. Which shows that the corruption we are seeing is all because of a few corrupt official, rather than a fully corrupt government.

In fact, because Gang Moo and his crew are openly defying orders from the top, it really makes it appear that ANSP is not a bad organization, but rather there were a few rotten eggs at the top.

I think it was a mistake for Ms. Pi to say, "I don't care if he is a spy" It really shows that radicalized extreme of the protestors. The ANSP are framing protestors to torture them, while protestors are harboring NK spies. It makes both sides look wrong, which further makes the ANSP symphatetic.

As an international audience, even I have to say I don't think the reign of Chun do Hwan nor the ANSP were necessarily that bad. In fact, if you read more on Chun Do hwan, it was during his regime that Korea started it's economic ascent.

Overall thought after 5 episodes,The cinematography and music are the best thing about this drama, while the romance…
I believe the writer wanted to establish the romance early, so that they can employ the "love against all odds" trope.

College does not equal maturity. Lots of college kids can be immature like Young Ro, I didn't feel anything wrong with her characterization. I have a problem with her inconsistent feelings for Soo ho, and the speed and situation of how she falls in love, that doesn't coincide with the narrative the story is trying to tell.

Soo Ho's love for Young Ro is more of a headscratcher, his acting, and persona seems doesn't sell me on him being NK spy, he isn't selling it well enough for me. And keep in mind, he has been in the spy game for a long time. I would have MUCH preferred that Soo Ho is just using Young Ro, and only later does he develop feelings. It would be more realistic to me.

I don't think the praise are fake, they genuinely love it. Why would you think they are fake.

Except most of the characters are over 30 year olds, so not really a HS romance.

Yeah, the FL's characterization becomes hard to respect, and I get it that they plan to make her suddenly mature in the remaining episodes, but her having these type of mentality in the first place is worrying as a woman. This looks to be headed into a Stockholm Syndrome type of love story.

Hopefully the comment section gets filled more with actual discussion about the drama.

All I see are 90% comments praising about Snowdrop being a masterpiece and Jisoo and Haein ( I fail to see it) masterclass acting.

I would like to see more discussion, theories, plot holes, logic backed raves, and critiques about the show.

I would like to have more meaningful debate and conversation on the drama. Otherwise this comment section just becomes one big giant fan cafe.

Thank you!

why people are rating a drama that's not finished yet ?
If you read earlier cements it's two sides making new account s to manipulate MDL ratings. Just ignore ratings for now

The accusations are already proven to be false, though.1) 4 episodes in, it is clear that Suho is not, and has…
1. Yes

2. No, only two people from the party are corrupt, and both are ANSP directors. But the rot does not go all the way down, the fact that so many people follow gangmoo shows ANSP in a symphatetic light.

There is no collusion with north Korean government but rather two corrupt north Korean officials. One of them has an ulterior motive for selfish personal reasons.

3. The words don't match the actions. Because of the evilness they are trying to depict from the ANSP, it is shown that protestors would rather harbour spies than to have innocent protestors marked as spies. This is a radicalized way of thinking.

And with the number of NK spies in EP. 4, it actually further proves that NK had infiltrated the masses and the general public.is actually helping to protect these spies unwittingly.

So as.controverdial as it is to frame someone, the fact that so many spies exist, it validates ANSP stance they are looking for spies,.and the people harboring them are communist symphatizer.

Think about it hosu dorm harbored a spy in.soo.ho. this means that the girls are communist symphatizer making ansp correct.

Also ANSP tact of considering one guilty unless proven innocent exist in modern day Japan's legal system. It is not unheard of for authority to do profiling of certain individuals.

It can be assumed that at that time, with the number of protestor, many NK were being sent into SK to spy. Keep in mind that the Olympics are literally months away and NK are going to boycott the games. So in the name of national security ANSP had to implement a more militaristic rule which caught some innocents.

I agree with your post, but regardless of how knee deep into controversy it gets, I don't plan to drop it and will be rating it on its merits as a drama, noting more, nothing less.

But I agree they didn't move away from the issue, but rather embraced it.

jisoo is portraying the lovestruck and very naive 20 year old student well, and hae-in as the more quiet and stoic…
I thought so at first, but then in Ep. 4 they are showing he has the same if not similar love as Young Ro, which didn't make sense at all, base on what we have seen in 3 episodes.

Getting past the fact he is a NK spy is hard enough, but how can they realistically show her getting over having a gun pointed at her head. I guess we are going to see some stretching.

They would have been able to expand the romance part if they got rid of the political arc completely...

Plot holes really irk me, really stops the immersion process when watching Kdrama. Ep. 4 plot holes will make your mind spin.

while i do agree she's an interestingly complex character, i beg to differ about the point about her being friends…
It's sad to see really. The answer the phone in 30 seconds rule I am almost sure is an invention of Boon Ok's mind. So struggling is her situation, that she has to create a rule where we see girls running to her, and in that short 30 seconds, she has some semblance of power, respect, if but for a fleeting moment, in those 30 seconds, she becomes the most important person in campus. Then when the phone call is over, back to being a lowly school staff.

Her friendship with Young Ro is as genuine as you can expect from Boon Ok. If you think giving Boon Ok some potato bread every now and then counts as friendship, you will have to think twice. If I belong to a rich and privilege class, and every now and then, I give the janitor at school some bread, does this mean we have a deep and long lasting friendship? Maybe for me, I would feel that, but to the other person, probably not, because our friendship doesn't erase the lines that are drawn due to our difference in statuses. And in this case that line was education, regardless of Young Ro's wealth, the fact that she was being educated and Boon Ok was not was a big thing.

In fact it's mentioned several time in Snowdrop, how the only thing separating people are those that grew up with more prominent names. And Boon Ok never got the opportunity to go to college, not because she is not smart enough, but she didn't have the financial capabilities to do so.

I think Boon Ok was starting to warm up to Young Ro though, keep in mind she is a freshmen, so their friendship would have been short, she even tried to make sure Young Ro isn't expelled, a more grander gesture than just some potato bread don't you think?

A friendship between two people is hard to quantify when there is a huge imbalance. Imagine a friendship between Prince William and a blue collar minimum wage earner? It would never be equal because there is such a huge power/wealth difference. Just like in legality, even during consensual relations, the person in absolute power is usually seen as the aggressor, even if he didn't engage in it.

I think when Boon Ok, painted Young Ro as just another of those snobby Hosu Dorm women, something within her snap. The only friend she had made at work betrayed her in her mind, and she went about it in the worst way possible.

I don't defend her actions, but I at the very least understand it, and I am hopeful for a satisfying ending for Boon Ok.

When you come from such a poor situation, you envy the rich and delve into selfishness pretty easily.

All though it looks like she takes advantage of young ro, it's also showed several times she has a soft spot for young ro.

I understand that the writer.intend to make boon ok as.unlikesble as lee gwang Tae, but her seemingly tragic past makes her a symphatetic and interesting character for me.
