What does it mean to be a non player character type??
OK, thanks! Yes, in a job you give up certain authority, but certainly not your authority over ones self. Mistakes are a given, but how it's framed for a character and the progress of a story can telling as to the worth of that character in the story. I come from the book world so I then to think of scripts in that fashion; not saying everything is transferable between the disciplines, but the foundations are the same. A character should lead a plot not the other way around.
What does it mean to be a non player character type??
Someone who walks around aimlessly. I want to know if she is a character that just let crap happen to her? Does she give as she gets? Does she act with authority in her own affairs? Is pushed around or manhandled a lot especially by men? Does she have autonomy? Is she completely powerless? Is this a typical damsel in distress trope where the FL character is just a NPC and it's just about constantly putting her in awkward situations so the guy can play hero?Is she constantly being picked up off her feet or pushed up against a wall?
I'm thankful that I only allow 5% of someone's opinion on a subjective matter to affect my process of forming my own opinion. This comment section might just be more entertaining than the drama itself (NR but close). 🤣🫠🙃
Assumptions and lack of communication is the real leads for this story. As a clarifier it's hard to watch at times because it becomes annoying and immature. However, even though I don't like the overuse of these particular plot devices I like the core of the story and that is what's keeping me interested. The actors are well established in their careers so I didn't expect any less of a performance than what I'm watching. The characters are simply and typical of this story line so nothing new there. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for an easy and trope laden rom-com of this sort. It satisfied my expectations and I liked it.
Update: After examining the characters a little more now that I'm on ep 15, they've become more interesting in their approach to life. I find myself appreciating the juxtaposition of how they approach the work life vs how they do in their romantic endeavors, the FL character mostly. While the plot devices still grate on my nerves, it fits who they are, adolescence in the pursuit of love. She clearly is very straightforward, clear headed, decisive, and goal oriented in her career; however now that the boundaries between the two are getting mixed she doesn't know how to move forward. She started out wanting one thing from him but now the attraction is two-fold and she hasn't separated the two in her interactions with him. She is the opposite of her boss in this respect. This then affects how he thinks and interacts with her. He is clear on what he wants from her, but all her actions and his conclusions based on some assumptions from observations makes him unsure.
After they built the FL character up as being trained MA even having her use the skill; then kicked all that out the window when she actually needed the instinctive skills to be there all for the sake of D.I.D. I lost interest after that. They could have easily done a two part stunt choreography. Use the skill for comedy when she flipped him into the lake but cower in the corner when your "life" depends on it. What was the point writing that characteristic for her? They lowered her value in the story for me when they did that.
Although I loved this, I realize something about the FL character on my second watch and that is she still gave the feeling of a doe-eyed fawn or a deer caught in the headlights from beginning to the end (not the makeup). I do think she grew in areas but boy I wouldn't trust her in a survival situation. That secretary calling him out to tell him the news about the brother made me want to mentally slap the writer and fire his butt. That was such a low level plot device but also I'd kick him off the island first. Both characters desperately needed the partners they married.
I'm trying to get through this with 8 episodes to go but it's hard. I'm seeing too many on the nose misdirect or with holding just to create drama that it's wearing on my nerves. I get that it's for young audience so anything I say will be like I expect to be the target audience. My major issue is with the Thi character and I just don't see me enjoying the conclusion because of how much work it should take to develop him from where they started but knowing they would never do it. I like and get slapstick characters, however, the there is no grounding to him so it's like a balloon caught up in a whirlwind, even AirDancers have a stable foundation. And whole a get that maybe in some way it's on purpose because of the juxtaposition it offers to Noey and the very obvious age gap, I'm still at a loss at how he's a college junior getting a teaching degree because he'd be eaten alive if he's teaching anything older than preschool.
Thanks to all the these comments I now know that I was right! Good looking out guys. Really hoping things change soon so skill and talent in the actual acting field will grow so the talented ones can have longevity and honest accolades. The studios and writers...
Just started watching this and already I know that JWY is going to be the character I find most frustrating and probably will not like even in the end. It's going to be a slow watch for me but I look forward to it since I like the story and can tell the production was done well enough.
I really appreciate that there are no innocent parties in this, just varying levels of duplicitousness which helps in accepting whatever end will come. The nuances of the characters are very on point with their individual experiences and desires. Nice!
Same old same old! But I'm not the target audience so it's understandable. You can tell the difference in acting capabilities very easily. The story writes itself which works to help give experience to those that need it but should be careful since it can stifle growth. It will be a quick watch after it finishes airing for me. I like the change up of character type for the actor Louis and if he plays a bigger role I'll look forward to it.
I was pissed off by the end of the first episode but once I acknowledge that this is an advert for alcohol/drinking (but responsible drinking 😉😉) I was able to settle down and watch it comfortably. The focus was on drinking not so much the characters (kind of like those Lotte dramas). The biggest character development was the none drinker started drinking again and even made a declaration that he would be the one to "change his ways". The drinker just became a better functioning drinker. I would have enjoyed the "story" portion more if it was let's say about working at a restaurant/bar that really focuses on pairings or making cocktails or even a cocktail competition and pick your love interest out of the people in that environment. The bartender with a chef, a distributor, a customer, a judge, or a past rival. They could have even work the none drinker to drinker angle and do it in a less egregious way.
