I feel the biggest issue with your attempts at reloving kdrama is that you have probably been looking into the wrong types of dramas. Makjangs have been around for a while now and trendy dark dramas like Squid Game, All of Us Dead etc are just more Westernized styles of dramas that are produced by Netflix

I think you will find more dramas up your alley by looking into genres you enjoy. I love to alternate between heavy dramas and lighter dramas

Oh really? That's quite funny to hear, I guess we're all different!
I really liked the musical bits as a singing student and I thought it went well with the theme of magic but I can definitely see how it must have been a drawback for most people
And yep, I was actually really expecting it to be like that unfortunately :c

Tomorrow was nearly exceptional. Loved it. Extraordinary You was amazing too and I found the enormous story changes to be really good for the drama. Realistically, I don't see og Eun Danoh from the webtoon being too exciting to watch for sixteen entire episodes

Sometimes Webtoons draw things out too much - lots of fillers, back stories, etc - so for those reasons, these…
I actually feel the opposite way
Webtoons tend to have less backstory and the dramas have to extend them for run time reasons - take My ID is Gangnam Beauty and Nevertheless. Webtoons may feel a lot slower but they are usually much more faster in pacing than dramas due to people reading a small chapter every week in comparison to a drama where they get an entire episode usually for 16 weeks. So Webtoons tend to cover a lot more in a single chapter and thus, may skip a lot of parts

Very very hot take: I am glad to hear you enjoyed Sound of Magic but I didn't really like it in all honesty. I felt like a lot of the crucial aspects of the webtoon, such as the monochromacy and Na Ildeung's character arc, were not followed. I also expected the magic to be a lot more, well, magical - kinda like Alchemy of Soul.
I feel like a lot of what was in the Webtoon was lost when they tried to make the drama, though I did enjoy the musicals. How cool would it be if the drama was black and white but became colorful during the magical bits

I disagree with the fact that the essence of the drama will be overshadowed by the webtoon in a 1:1 recreation. However, I do think it is sometimes important to change things here and there because some things that are natural in the webtoon (such as the really fast pacing and certain lines) would not translate very well in a drama format

Once again, really interesting because I found the opposite XD
I found the scenes to feel very organic and immersive and there were so many times that I felt like I wasn’t watching a movie. To be completely honest, as rough as it sounds, I’ve lived a somewhat similar experience to what went on in the film so I guess just really watching someone from a similar situation acting out what I genuinely felt and how I interacted with other people really blew me away; I personally found the script to be very realistic (minus the comedic elements).

Thank you for the suggestion though, I will be sure to get around to it

That's interesting because I am pretty much the opposite. I rarely ever get emotional watching films or tv shows so the performances have to be REALLY good for me to care at all. I loved how this movie let us hear the characters' conversations and watch them interact to really bring out the emotionality and the three dimensional aspects for each character. I felt like it was a great approach to organically expand on each of them.
I find that movies that tend to overdramatize a scene to elicit a particular emotion really miss the mark for me

Were they hinting sanghyun got killed or that Sanghyun killed the loan shark? After that meeting with his daughter…
I read an interpretation of it on Reddit since it doesn't really go with Sanghyun's character to kill someone for money. I believe he killed that guy because that guy was a threat to Moon Soyoung and the baby; not really for the money

Hope this helps!

is this drama worth watching?
Give it a shot but it is a bit slow

I feel like it blends a lot of genres but doesn’t do any of the genres exceptionally well. The thriller part is pretty predictable imo, romance is a slow burn with characters miscommunicating as a cheap plot device, the slice of life aspects are too infused with the dark plot to be a refreshing/relaxing type of drama and the fantasy like premise doesn’t have TOO much significance in the plot

I don’t really like the FL but the ML is quite grounded as a character who is rather realistic and well written as he isn’t that affectionate plus his flaws and growth is quite clear

That being said, I am enjoying the drama

The issue I have with it is that Jung Somin's acting is absolutely phenomenal
All the chemistry and relationships she has built with the other cast won't be translated so easily
I defo don't want Jang uk to end up with Mudeok whilst Yul ends up with Naksu or anything but I would like Naksu to remain in Mudeok's body

I respectfully disagree here; have a go at Crowned Clown. Yeo Jin Goo's characters all shine as individual people and his subtle mannerisms + body language really distinguishes each role he plays from one another :)

Also, even though he has played a few stoic characters, I found each of them to be rather different from one another. Han Juwon (Beyond Evil) did not feel even remotely similar to Gu Chansung or even the character in this drama

Yeo Jin Goo - for a good reason - is known to be one of the greatest actors for his age group

Comparing him to Eunwoo just feels really wrong to me as someone who appreciates actors for their acting and not their visuals

I hope this wasn't offensive or anything; just here to share my opinion so feel free to disagree :D

I was looking forward this because of the synopsis but it’s just another makjang soap drama with no substance.…
I don’t like makjangs either -however I recommend Mine as almost every character is three-dimensional and grounded with empathy and the plot is really well done (perhaps predictable to some but it makes sense and doesn’t try to “outsmart” its audience by throwing in something wacky); the drama has a lot of heart to it

SKY Castle is another recommendation though it’s classic you have probably already watched

I agree with your comment but chaebol makjangs can be done well

It's not really that trope I'd say
The Webtoon, at least, is meant to be relatable for those girls in a toxic relationship...
This kdrama is like a subversion of tropes
I am not really looking forward to Sol's storyline cause it's cliched and you know what'll happen but I guess it's more lighthearted and complementary to the plot of the ML and FL? Still, the Webtoon instilled that hopelessness and trauma a lot better

This is so stupid and the female lead is too damn easy and naive. God I’m so tired of dumb female leads
tbh I think the drama dumbed her down slightly
In the webtoon she quickly realizes it ain't fate and he sucks but she has that urge still to be with him, to believe he will change (which is pretty realistic imo)
