I'm on episode 5 and it's so good! I love how the ML does not know how he feels about the FL. He's so cute. I hope they finish this drama nicely. My fingers and toes are crossed.
Super nice review. Thanks for writing what I had in mind and heart.
I'd give all aspects of the production a 10/10, especially the costumes and set, but I'd give the story a 6/10 because they couldn't make their ending tragically valid (I agree that the first 30 eps were good).
Apparently, Wang Yibo's character's fam in this story is composed of stupid people—his dad, his wife, his bro, his father-in-law, his bro-in-law. It must have been very frustrating for Wang Yibo's character to live his life. No wonder he rarely smiles.
It's crazy how these people penalize him for what he's done when he was still in his primary years. Stupid freaks.
I am with you on bullying and that it should never be tolerated.
But try being a teacher in primary grades and you'll see what I mean. Some kids are simply naughty and unkind and it's part of the things they learn when interacting with other people. They learn from their mistakes and become better students when they step into high school.
Dropped after 5 episodes. Just couldn't get into it. I tried. I really tried.
I'm on ep 5 and I find the FL annoying with all her big smiles in almost every scene. She's annoyingly cheerful. I am thinking of dropping it but Xu Kai's beauty is just irresistible. I hope it's enough to get me through all 49 episodes.
Thank you so much for your feedback. I'll tag this drama as DNW (Do Not Watch).
My sister urges me to watch this. IDK if I want to have a part 2 of my experience with Rookie Historian. It has a terrific beginning but ended poorly, almost disappointingly if not for Cha Eunwoo's extraordinary face.
Poor storytelling, often illogical. The plot is suddenly revealed using the writer's mind, not the character's.
There are holes that will make you curious in a disappointing way—Why did Ghost Boy stop fighting and will he simply stop fighting if he was told off? How did the evil commander (or was it general?) know that the ML didn't die 10 years ago in a war. How did he infer that from scant clues when he is not portrayed as smart?
The costumes are nice, the set, too. The acting is poor. ML and FL are too dry like the desert. But I like the fight scenes. They're cool.
The comedy is not even funny at the slapstick level. Such a waste of resources.
But I guess they have to make bad dramas to highlight the good ones.

Stupid freaks.
Amazing costume, except for the FL's; Incredible set, very elegant; touching music; decent acting, except for the FL's; nice CGI, good story.
I recomm that you see this.
BTW, I saw in your post that you've recently started Luoyang.
To me, that drama is worse than Rookie Historian. A lot worse.
I love the imagery here. Hahaha

Still, I don't recomm.
