Moral of the episode?

If you beat someone up, your girlfriend will still be in love with you.

NJH, I love you, but you need to pick a better script next time.

hopefully KSH is cast as second lead there as well, so we can see all the fun again :)
ahahaha, I mean Noh Hee Kyung had a drama of hers produced twice (The Most Beautiful Goodbye, 2011 &2017) so maybe she'll have two chances to get it right? ;)

@sazousa @Lilli_ I mean, I just met you both in the comment section but a nice bit of news for NJH is that he's cast in a Noh Hee Kyung drama! She wrote Live (2018), That Winter, the Wind Blows (2013), and It's Okay That's Love (2014), among other known titles! I don't love all her work but she is a pretty quality writer:)

Popularity is why they gave NJH and Suzy the main roles. KSH isn't that popular. Infact the choice of using him…
My bad as well, then. The replying function can be weird.

However—
"Of course you have a point about the industry."
>Yes, my whole point is about the industry. This was my entire critique. Saying "there is times that writers made a character thinking about a specific person", is really just an extension of my point about industry corruption. I don't see the reason for making this point?

>As well as this: "sometimes Pd and writers cast the actor who fits more the personality of the character"—how would producers or writers know the personality of a character? Yes, the answer is popularity. As I've already said, I understand the norms of the industry and really don't need to be told why NJH or KSH were cast as their respective characters.

"And I don't think is a mistake casting KSH because the writer made Jung Hae In famous with a 2nd lead role and his character was quite similar to HJP"
> This is yet another extension of my critique of the industry. I personally don't appreciate it when dramas are used as a vehicle for an actor's success (yes, I fully and completely understand that this is often the case in the Korean TV scene). A drama should a vehicle to showcase an actor's talent. I think that the casting backfired on the writers. Especially in the KDrama industry, the goal is to make a hit show with the potential to be remembered among the hundreds and hundreds of dramas produced over the years. I made the point that their casting created far to much division among fans and viewers to do so.

"this year the book/tv series Normal People was a hit because the leads have a lot of human flaws and the audience can easy see themselves in this characters"
> I've watched and am familiar with Normal People and frankly it is a very far stretch to compare the writing, directing, and acting of Normal People to Start Up. It was directed by Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald—Abrahamson has received several indie film awards for his work as well as an Oscar and Macdonald is a Hugo and Grand Prix awardee. Furthermore, the writers were a team consisting of the original author (who was nominated for the International Man Booker Awards, was awarded the U.K.'s Women's Prize for Fiction, as well as Irish Book of the Year), Alice Birch (a BAFTA, Blackburn Prize, and Writer's Guild awardee), and Mark O'Rowe (a well-known playwright on the Irish theatre scene). Frankly, no—Start Up's "relatableness" does not compare to that of Normal People. And, no, the characterization of NDS, SDM, and HJP cannot compare to the characterization of Marianne and Cornell. *I am absolutely not saying that KDramas are second rate or that Western TV is superior*(!!!). However, a comparison of Start Up's directorial and script team versus the directorial and script team of Normal People is not a sane comparison to make—particularly in the scope of international entertainment and media critque.

And yes, to my understanding, KSH was casted.

I'm a fan of both the actors and it's really a pity that NJH choose this character I really loved his previous…
It's nice to see some love on both sides in a comment, haha:) Theatre really is a different world! I was only vaguely familiar with KSH in the Korean theatre scene (which is a bit harder to keep up with when you're not living there aha), so I was shocked but intrigued to see him in Strongest Delivery man. His popularity has most definitely sky rocketed—he's been nominated at the 2020 Asia Artists Awards and recently confirmed a ML role, if I'm not mistaken! So I think you'll for sure see him getting the love HJP is missing soon in the future<3

Mmm, yes, another great point! I felt more fulfilled in a way because there was good development for *4 whole characters* (!!! FOUR !!! haha). Good writing, casting, directing, and acting in that drama, no question.

Ahh, agreed! A great point that WWW did great work with the women-in-business plot point; 10/10 recommend the drama for the people who were wanting to see more a more technical focus in Start-Up

Popularity is why they gave NJH and Suzy the main roles. KSH isn't that popular. Infact the choice of using him…
As much as I've loved to see idols grow in terms of acting skills ( Suzy and IU are the ones I've followed the longest<3) , it's undeniable that there is corruption in the casting. Both the writer and directer are known to work with idol entertainment companies for none other than support (and in some cases, compensation). The writer has been influenced by both JYP and YG's acting sectors to write roles for their signees (JYP Actors for Suzy and KeyEast, whose parent company is YG, for Kim Soo Hyun). It's the same case for the director whose cast IU, Kim Soo Hyun, and Suzy in lead roles. This is well known within the industry and, publicly, it's kind of obvious. Both the writer and director did not have popular dramas until they were recruited for projects by these multi-purpose entertainment companies. So, perhaps it's not popularity and my saying that popularity trumps talent was far too simplified—but my point it is that the casting is certainly not purely about talent.

Should you have been interested in actual discussion, you would have red that I stated that NJH should've passed on playing NDS as a whole and the script should have written HJP as the main and created a different SL. Does NJH play NDS well? I personally think so. Is NDS written well? Not really, and NDS is a not the kind of complex character that most actors would be proud to play hence, you missed the point.

Haha, I've caught a couple of your comments and responses and really admire your satire (even if I'm not really made for arguing about pairings and such, haha)!

I'm with you on Jealousy Incarnate! I actually preferred the 2nd ML but enjoyed the story and the main couple overall.

Agreed with your points regarding Start-Up. It's going on my Had-So-Much-Potential-But-Screwed-Up list, aha. I thought Start-Up might've been what RoY was supposed to do with the entertainment industry except with the tech industry but, they gave a whole episode to the 2nd ML and lost me lol.

Didn't mention anything about the casting of Suzy and NJH. I've Been around dramaland for a while to know that popularity trumps talent. My point was that a mistake was made casting KSH if they wanted a popular drama with fans rooting for the main couple. Even the majority more contemporary dramas don't have nearly as much toxicity and division between MLs. It could be argued that this was done on purpose and the love triangle was supposed to be a major plot point however, in Korean entertainment, that would have entailed the casting of popular actors for both MLs. It was a mistake and I made a critique of it. I personally prefer more in-depth discussion about the growth of an entertainment industry and "that's how the industry works" is not an attitude that contributes to change.

Ooof, as a fan of NJH, especially in WFKBJ, the Light in Your Eyes, and The School Nurse Files, this role reminds me of when he got screwed over by bad writing and mismatched casting in Bride of Haebek, yikes. Since Suzy seems to get typecast in the bubbly&determined FL roles, I thought this might be like NJH's role in Cheese in the Trap with the amazing 2nd couple but... Instead of that, it's another Bride of Haebek, except he's playing an immature genius rather than an immature god.

I was so excited, for his next project after School Nurse Files:( His acting skills are really able to shine with good writing, and sadly the writing for his character here is kind of inconsistent? In the first couple of episodes, I was wondering where he was since he was cast as the 1st ML. And then he goes from wholesome and selfless to possessive and selfish? I thought this would be more of a Jealousy Incarnate plot, where even though there's lots of competition with the rich second lead and the genius reporter first lead, in the end, the FL chooses the 1st ML because she spent time with both leads and there was an actual dialogue about conflict and misunderstandings lol. This is not the NJH show for me, sadly.

On a side note: As a long time fan of film, musicals, theatre, and TV (I watch and follow mostly French, Turkish, Korean, Latino, British, and Chinese entertainment), I think the casting director of this show simultaneously effed up and gave exposure to a gem of an actor. As I said, I'm a longtime fan of NJH and I think Suzy has improved since her Dream High debut but, I know a theatre actor when I see one and in my experience (whatever the language or country), when theatre actors crossover to TV/Film, their skills are quite remarkable compared to actors who don't have stage experience and only have on-camera experience. I don't want to discredit Suzy or NJH's acting (they're quite impressive especially if you've seen both their acting when they first debuted!) but truthfully they started out as an idol and a model, and it really does show when either of them acts alongside Kim Seon Ho. It's kind of seems as though the casting director didn't see KSH's performances in previous dramas? I mean, who would watch KSH's acting and give him the SL script of this drama? Chemistry wise, the casting is fine for the FL between both MLs. But, in terms of acting skills, it's clearly unbalanced and emphasizes the script's weakness in characterization—the SL absolutely should not have been played by and highly skilled actor with a generally likable reputation lmao—it's a recipe for toxic fan wars and sabotaged ratings and reputation because of angry stans on both sides (which is a no for me, lol).

Would've been cool to see KSH as the main lead and a different 2nd, I think it would've made the story more coherent but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what can you do haha. I'll be keeping an eye out for a drama with KSH as the 1st ML for sure! And of course, waiting for the next NJH project (praying he makes better script choices in his next roles, as he did in his last two<3).

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THISI also have the first-hand experience with mental health problems (close relatives)…
Appreciate the expression of support! I felt that while the average viewer would enjoy the show, it was important to put out a word of caution to those familiar with the complex world mental health. Glad I could express some of what you felt too:)
