I wanted to check out the casting and details and I saw this from the user Hunter2002
[THIS DRAMA WILL BE EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE:
1. Zhao Lusi as FL. Tencent casts high profile stars like ZL only when they're aiming to make the drama a big hit or anticipate it to become one.
2. ALP is only a knock off of 3L3W. Yeah I know different authors different stories different characters, but it just a copycat/imitation of the Croton drama starring Yang Mi. 3L3W doesn't have a sequel like this so it's going into uncharted territories with lots of surprises in store. To be honest I hated ALP for being a copycat of 3L3W. No scene was enjoyable to me becoz I seen it all before. This series will b a bit different and a novel experience to me.
3. Tencent took in all the criticisms on Douban. I remember lots of viewers there were criticizing the series like how the FL doesn't even looked like a Goddess with ethereal beauty. So, now we have Zhao Lusi to make up for the bad casting of the 1st series.
4. I don't know, I think Tencent matured a lot in SFX/CGI technology between the filming of the first one and this one. Just look at Chong Zi, it a B/C-grade drama but the special effects looked like Tencent did all of that while asleep (meaning they became soo good, they could put together the effects with computer artists just using one hand). Just look at the swimming turtle scene in Sword Snow Stride, and also some of the stuff in 3Body. That the kind of level of quality we can expect in this sequel drama series.
5. NOT A HAPPY ENDING. Just look at The Untamed. A bittersweet ending where Wei Wuxian was left to wander alone in the vast wide world. I much prefer a non-happy ending becoz it's after all a drama, and dramas r supposed to have dramatic endings! When ppl watch a drama knowing full well in advance of the non-happy ending, it makes them appreciate all the dramatic events in between the beginning and ending even more!]
Yeah from interested to check to "yeah nope" and ZLS has just joined into my list of actress I never going to watch because boy I've only read gossips about her fans, seeing this, it seems to be true.
Ancient Love Poetry is a beautiful drama that doesn't deserve this amount of disrespect from traffic fans.

My oh my I am very... surprised?! This exceed my expectation! The characters are innovative while using a "typical" contract marriage trope but they actually started out pretty realistic how they ended up signing that contract which is very satisfying. Both leads are strong in their own way and has a very distinctive personality that justify their decisions and actions. The plot are so compact and well arranged, each characters was introduced naturally and flawlessly.
My favorite scenes so far from the released 4 episodes are Yang Hua's battle of wits saga with his mom XD love how they are actually very alike and Qin Shi's negotiation during their first meeting with the parents is epic The banquet scene. It gives the vibe of Mr. and Mrs. Smith but without the guns. I love how natural they done this scenes. It doesn't feel dramatic, it's realistic. Their confrontation in the car. The justification of how Qin Shi discover the existence of Yang Hua and the reason she chose him as her "virtual" husbands caught me off guard, I did not expect such genuine reason and it seems to poke into the upcoming plot of Yang Hua's past which makes everything interrelated. The arrangement of sleeping at the hotel, Yang Hua's life is miserable and I love how blasé Qin Shi is.
If this pace keep up, it can be my most favourite drama.

Acting is very very important to me as well that's why I checked out the work of other actors in this drama before the drama start airing because I love the book and boy I was not disappointed in fact I applauded all cast by the end of the finale because they all did such excellent job. Since you have only watch 2 episodes and doesn't know whether to continue I'll give you link to scenes that you can watch to consider whether to watch or not. Some of these scenes has such excellent acting skill moment that still left me unsatisfied when I tried to watch the other costume cdrama because they set the bar so high. This drama took you on a twist in the most unexpected way. Of course this is not to ask you change your opinion on your favourite actor but just to show you whether you think worth continuing this drama or not.

I made the mistake of showing LAR to my family after watching ALP though as they now have a bad impression again of cdrama lol they were so embarrassed for some scenes that they asked me to close it. Sad. I don't think LAR was that bad.
You can give it a go until episode 10 - 16, for me the assembled cast has one of the solid acting I've seen. Especially towards the end it's just mind-blowing how the main leads especially carry the emotional lines.

He is indeed very excellent with his eyes play, also what broke my tears is the timing of his eyes shifting and widening and then tears of happiness of finally hearing his son call him 'father' the timing of each facial expression is just impeccable. It's the kind of reaction that makes you just sobbing. Indeed I can confirmed now he is a rare young talent, I have only seen him in The Legends. Now that ALP ended I will start binge watch his other dramas.
I cried so bad during the father and son moment... gosh when Yuanqi hesitate to call Bai Jue father but then called out to him father when Bai Jue is walking away and Bai Jue has the most touching expression gosh. I was sobbing so hard. Ok Xu Kai I took my hat off to you, what a great actor.

I've seen behind the scenes of Dance Sky Empire how they redo the crying scenes if they are not satisfied, and the results turns great and very touching but this part in ALP its almost as if the director and producer is lazy or malicious because they edit it and shot it poorly. As the other scene where Bai Jue was distraught and carving Shang Gu the lighting is suddenly okay again and the emotions acting is well delivered.

For me its very good. You can check out episode 11 and then episode 18 to see if it's your cup of tea. I choose those two episodes because those negative reviewers on youtube said its boring as the plot is predictable.

Bai Jue and Shanggu never had the chance to break up because after they were seperated 60k years ago. But considering when Shanggu first wake up with memory of Shanggu and Houchi after 60k years of sleep, the first thing she found out is that Bai Jue killed Gu Jun her beloved disciple and with Houchi's memory her father and he also killed Bo Xuan houchi beloved mentor, she hated Bai Jue and swore to never love him again. It was only later when she learn the truth why he did what he did that she chase him back but it was too late.
