Low budget production, much like Wulin Heroes, but the plot is silly satire type. Since I don't care that much about production values, it's a good watch for now. The humor is decent. If you didn't mind Wulin Heroes, you won't mind this production either.

Ah, so many jokes do better in Korean, and it's sad people are going to miss them because the jokes simply don't translate well.

She's playing someone half her age, but the actress herself is older, so visually it's an easy way to reflect her mental age. At the start of the drama she's supposed to be daddy's little girl and very spoiled because of it, getting her way no matter what, so you don't think about how she's in her 30's, the easiest way is to style her much younger. It reflects the character's maturity level very well. She's supposed to come out of it. Usually I don't care about "does it look good" 'cause really it's about communicating the character and who they are. People give actresses enough crap for "not looking pretty enough" and "playing roles that are too feminine" and roles that are "too masculine." "Not smart enough." "Too smart, thus boring." "Not really smart, why do they keep saying she is." that we really should give them a break and think instead, "Does it communicate the brief about who the character is?" And in this case, I think it does. The character's age mental age is super immature.

She's slowly taking responsibility and defending him.

I don't think he's that type, plus the audience would turn against him.

Actress is 30--so it's a way to visually age her down.

I know that, but the writer should delve into it somewhat, and two cheats don't make a right, especially since Sin Yu seems to be unaware of the situation on his side.

But then I'm not a fan of the whole the ML is a terrible guy... so let's make the SML a worse guy--who hits women instead of emotionally abuses them.

So I dislike the double cheater situation too. I think the writer can do better.

The spoiler free version, but Sin Yu (Male lead) doesn't clean up before declaring he has feelings for Hong Jo (FL). And the writer doesn't address him very well in the script on why, though she has enough of the seeds on why she doesn't really go into it like she should. This makes me less than thrilled especially when he puts the decision to cheat on Hong Jo...

Honestly, kinda yes, because Jang Shin Yu isn't cleaning up his mess before he makes it, which people will know what that means when they watch the show. He honestly should have cleaned it up before he made it.

The thing is on this page earlier they had it with the proper romanization of Yuuki, but changed it after the subs came out. I also dislike the o v. ou because there is also the oo in Japanese and the three do make a difference. And for typing out the name, it does matter. I dislike the diacritical marks because it's hard to type out, it wasn't really part of the original system, and it's not consistent across languages what it means. But everyone knows what say Kyouko v. Kyoko means. I dislike the imprecision, so always favor the most precise method.

If they want to use the diacritical mark then there are ways to sub that in.

The best part of the drama--hands down the directing choices are some of the most creative. I'd follow that by the actors they chose, and then production values last. But this makes the drama better than one expects as the unique directing choices lets the characters come to life and makes it feels like a Josei manga.

BTW, Yuuki in the subs is misspelled. The correct spelling according to the official website is Yuuki. 結城真臣--his kanji are these. On the official website that's ゆうき まさおみ. And as someone who knows Japanese, that does matter And for the subbers, shame on you for not spelling his name in romaji correct. It was correct up in this website, but someone changed it to the wrong spelling, because they don't read Japanese? (Or the subbers are playing dirty and covering up for their blatant mistake).

And yes, I've done subs before, and yes, I was this meticulous because I do know it absolutely does matter in Japanese, because the difference is between Obaasan and obasan. So spelling out the vowels correctly does matter, so this website should reflect the correct romaji and screw over the subbers who are purposefully getting it wrong because they didn't bother looking up his name on the official website. Fix it~~~

If you like that sort of thing, I heard the book pulls the same sort of thing which someone read through, and ironically the screenwriter was trying to fix, but got lost along the way. And it's sad when I'm sitting here and going, I could have fixed both of it. Screenwriters tend to use connecting index cards to outline... and both the book (from what I gather) and the drama could have used them as long as the strings had character motivations. Flat out fans of the book series hated this particular book the most.

I mean there is this point where she is determined to go down the mountain and there is this speech the ML gives the female lead that's not that convincing and at that point even more people dropped like flies. They were like, WTF this sucks and makes absolutely no sense. Because before that point, she was really, really determined to leave and said everyone sucks, why did the dress thing go down the way it did, and I hate everyone, I'm only here to support my friend. And then he gives this speech with, I think you should stay without a really good reason and she says, "OK." And at that point everyone hard blinked, WHAT?

But don't worry, the event I referenced is later in the series where Zhi Yuan makes a mind-numbing choice and everyone on the front page was crying out and you'll understand why I'm objecting so strongly. We spent THREE episodes prior (as in just prior to the episode where this happens) establishing a freaking spell FL could have used and SHE FORGOT TO USE IT and then she's all shocked at the result. C'mon. That's 100% a writing decision.

As I said, the writing is completely lost... the writing tried to fix one thing from the novel, but then it caused cascading effects which the screenwriter was clueless on how to fix, and the thing you mentioned is one of them. It doesn't get better either. If anything, it gets worse as the story moves on and the writer has a deer in headlights feeling and totally forgets earlier plot points. I mean...

You mean Xi Wei or Tian Xi Wei? Xi Wei is her given name...

Tian Xi Wei has a very distinctive voice. Her real voice was in New Life Begins and First Love.

So totally deviating from the book at the end of the drama just to get it to cram conveniently into the old drama formula? Is the writer not confident that much?
