Honestly there are so many dramas posted in MDL that never get actually released. Maybe these dramas should only…
It's not MDL's fault. It's more the Chinese drama industry is like this. Even when it films, sometimes it never releases, such as with Love Never Fails. Or releases really late. The Longest Promise. Or gets semi canceled, but then promised with revisions such as The Golden Hairpin, which they then have to ship out to overseas to try to get enough money for the domestic production.
It does seem like she already had a prejudice against the premise of drama so she is seeing things in a very negative…
It's her opinion. She's not talking about politics and asking people to go out into the streets. It's a drama, not life or death. She's not talking civil rights here. My question to you, is why does her opinion of the drama, invalidate your enjoyment of the drama and why do you think that other people are sheeple, not people? People make their own opinions. She never asks for superfan loyalty, like a lot of the people in this comment thread. "Oh no, she's ruining MY enjoyment of the drama by hating it" WTH, how is that happening? You're doing that on your own by policing what other people think. They may read reviews, but they are going to make their own opinions if you like it or not.
Not everyone agrees with why they like this drama or hate it, but are you going to go as far as to police that too?
Why enforce something so trivial as a drama to make sure EVERYONE needs to like it like you do, and have the exact same opinion? That's o boring!
Avenue X isn't the only drama reviewer in the world for Chinese dramas--there is Marcus, there is Asian Drama Update, etc. Being so upset that ONE person had a dissenting view from yours and investing that much into it, doesn't seem like it's worth it.
If avenue x allows for dissenting opinions and listens to them, then doesn't that really make her more mature, as a human being that those who are saying things like, "She has a huge platform and she's ruinng MY ENJOYMENT OF THIS DRAMA BY DISAGREEING" As if it's the end of the world that not everyone agrees.
So what? Move on. Someone disagrees. But at least she's mature enough to recognize people will disagree. The question is will everyone else also? Or are they going to try to rather than disagree with her opinion in a textual manner and thus a mature manner, try to say how horrible of a person she is? A drama isn't worth it. Save that behavior for civil rights.
Can you pull textual evidence for her to prove he's not a groomer in the drama? Because she listens to that and that shows media literacy. She respects that. Act like an adult and engage like an adult.
I can do that, but I'm not invested in trying to "convert" people. I'm more interested in dissenting opinions for the sake of them by respecting the other person who has them by trying to understand why, rather than convert them. I will like dramas everyone hates and be fine with it. I will hate dramas everyone likes and be fine with it, the question is, will you be, or are you so insecure in your own opinion of FICTION that one dissenting opinion makes you lose faith in the drama and the agency of people around you?
Believe in the agency of people to make their own opinions. People never agree on anything. The world would be a boring place if that were to happen. I do sit down and listen when it's about civil rights material. I know I'm often wrong about it. Understanding doesn't mean agreeing.
He intentionally made them think this... Even when given a chance go tell the truth several times he goes on to…
WZC is the hidden god character in this, which isn't really a spoiler, since you figure that out in episode 1. He's not slated to like the FL in this, just that Ruochen thwarts him. The FL converts later to a 9-tailed fox. The person paired with WZC mistakes Ruochen for Yin Feng. Ruochen, meanwhile is dedicated to the FL. That's about the summary of the plot so far.
If Ruochen admitted to everyone he wasn't the Border Patrol God, a lot of the plot would currently end, but they are trying to set up the other parts of the plot before they collapse that plot.
The only thing I can say is, Even if a person is dead, a cliff in Chinese dramas brings them back to life.
It does seem like she already had a prejudice against the premise of drama so she is seeing things in a very negative…
I had that prejudice going into the drama--Oh no, another groomer drama, but the director was very careful to lean away from that and not do the same mistakes of Go Go Squid. But I don't get why people are so invested in making everyone like the drama they like. So what if she doesn't like it. She doesn't particularly say to her fanship at any time, if you like what I hate I'm going to hate you. She does listen to dissenting opinions. I did rec a drama she did review and like, because I guessed at her taste.
So what if people dislike what you like. So what if people like what you dislike? Shouldn't matter. People shouldn't demand sheeple in either direction.
Actually, if you watched all her episodes she said she really likes ZLS. She said specifically, she loved the fact that Zhao Lusi has really good chemistry with her male leads and that she doesn't have any activities (at the time before Zhao Lusi learned how to sing) beyond acting. She said this of Romance of the Tiger and Rose, which she really liked for being clever. People did hate her for saying she thought that Yuxi had a crush on her during the drama because destructive super fans is a thing.
She, like me, though, isn't particular super fan or haters of any actors and more assesses them on talent rather than looks. Because as I said, she's more into looking into the production side of things, so she looks for what makes it work or not work for her. She also gives room for actors to grow and change, and gets frustrated when they don't quite get better despite being in multiple productions.
So no, not a particular hater, but does have a low tolerance of superfans. lol And you gotta respect her for that. For example, she hated when superfans chased down and harassed Xu Kai, not because she's his fan in particular, but because she thought it was total disrespect for the actor.
So as I said, you can disagree, but understand where the opinion is coming from and why.
I do disagree with her, but I can do it in a respectful manner.
Avenue X's tastes tend to run high on production values. She also tends to dislike cotton candy dramas or sweet…
She's a drama reviewer, so people want to get her opinion. She also has inside knowledge of the Chinese drama industry, so has connections. She speaks Mandarin and even when she doesn't like something, she still tries to figure out why other people like it. For those reasons, that's why I watch her videos.
I wouldn't speak badly of people because they have a different opinion than I do about a show I like--people like different things and I respect that too. That's their right to dislike a show I really like, and I'll spend time trying to understand why, because I'm a writer type and it's kinda our job to do so.
I'm not particularly putting up a defense of her, but I am saying that everyone has a right to like or dislike the things they like or dislike without being slammed that they are a terrible person or they are doing it for the views. She's truly passionate about dramas, otherwise she wouldn't have originally been in the Chinese drama industry. And I can't hate on someone who shares a passion for something I love--Chinese dramas. I can, however, forgive them for watching and investing time in a show that I like and still disliking it. I don't have the breath of her knowledge, so I'll respect her opinion. She knows more Chinese literature, more about Chinese culture, more Chinese production things, and her tastes might be more strict than mine, but I'm not going to disrespect her for liking something else than me.
Just watched Avenue x's video, Dare I say that I disagree with all her points. The first meet, she talked about…
Avenue X's tastes tend to run high on production values. She also tends to dislike cotton candy dramas or sweet dramas. She tends to like more wine and dine dramas--high art pieces with high production values. She tends to look less at the storyline as a reviewer. This isn't to slam her as a reviewer in the least--I like watching her, but to say that she has a very specific taste. Since she worked in Chinese production, she tends to focus a lot on production values, which is her jam and right to do.
She also tends to hate Xianxia very much.
It's much better to understand a person's taste and understand how and why they have that taste than to slam them for having a different taste than you, I think.
Personally, I think storywise, everything in this drama works well together. The acting is stellar, etc. But this opinion is coming from me, who likes to watch a stunning number of BTS, who has taken acting lessons before, and is a writer so I focus a lot more on story and how one tells it. I also tend to watch a lot of trash as well as high brow productions and prefer to try to eek out something good in the production, but keep a balanced eye on it. I also like to watch shows to recommend them to others specifically. I index shows and find people who are likely to watch them.
So don't mind what others think unless you're looking for drama recs.
There is a legend that says the god of Border Patrol helped a blue stone cultivate into a goddess. However, the Blue Stone goddess released a demon on Earth. For that they were banished to Earth to be punished for 100 lifetimes together and swore to find each other in each lifetime.
Ji Ruochen is a bandit in the outskirts of the kingdom, but he dreams of being an immortal. He meets an immortal with a blue stone and accidentally kills him and takes his blue stone. Everyone mistakes that Ruochen could be the Border Patrol God.
My guess at the spoiler based on episode 1, was also correct and you find that out by episode 5, but it's not a real spoiler because you figure it out pretty quickly.

Is the Female Lead childish and/or annoying and irritating? Honest answers please? The last couple of C-dramas…
She's childish, but not annoying and plays the age she's supposed to very well. Zhao Lusi is always good, though. She also has this magic about her to make her male leads often seem to fall for her so often they have really good chemistry with her.
I know why it's getting down voted--it's because people want a cotton candy drama, but the opening song, nor the set up says it's a cotton candy drama. It's not fluff, and you have to work to figure things out, but people are going on and on about how it should be easy to understand and how the side stories have no relation to the main characters--but they do. You have to work it out for yourself what it says about the main characters.
There are plenty of idol dramas out there that are built to be mindless, this isn't it. This drama has layers you have to think about, put together like a detective and work for it.
OMG the male lead isn't in this drama much. Yeah, so what? He's in it more in the second half and you have to figure out what the story as a whole means rather than OMG I want eye candy and to stare at my favorites. This drama is actually putting the story first over eye candy--and that's rare. I can see why he wanted to be in this drama.
Yeah second half was kinda odd. The director made odd choices on episode distribution and some of the cuts made…
Huge Super spoiler:
So they spent a mind-numbing 6 episodes after 30 years time trying to get the MFL back with the male lead after his delusion. Then they neglected their child. Like both of them. Really badly. Made me wonder if anyone on set was a parent and asking questions.
Then they built up the penultimate battle, which was father taking over MML's body.
MML didn't kill father at all, instead His step mom killed his father by using a time vault.
Then MFL sacrificed herself for MML, giving up essence to him.
MML, who couldn't stand FML sacrificing herself, used the essence he got from her to travel into the time vault and relive everything again., but not change time, or maybe indicated.
Their child finally hatched after 30 years and went to heaven. But seriously?? After the epic child neglect that child has to be messed up.
All of my fave characters ended up dying.
I'm not against everyone dying, or even sad endings... I mean I like Ashes of Love and have watched it a lot, and that had a bittersweet ending. But this ending felt like some other script writer had taken over and written it.
The time spent on making the characters fall in love wasn't enough. They needed more episodes, which they could have stolen from the 6 episode span of OMG, he forgot me, from the back end.
The ending didn't congeal for me. They kept promising over and over that the Phoenix would attain nirvana, and she never did. She kept sacrificing her power for the man.
And then they pointlessly killed all your faves.
So the major issue was pacing. But some of the directing choices were odd to me. The director(s) in the last section in particular, should have told the actors to think of the egg as precious, but they were tossing it around like a rugby ball. Slamming things into it, etc. And the parents spent a ton of time neglecting their child and thinking things like, "If you don't exist then I shouldn't exist." But YOUR CHILD. YOUR EFFING CHILD. WTH. Also I call BS, on the whole, slammed qi into the egg enough to kill it, but slam qi into a spiritual foxes' belly and they auto-know she lost the child or something. That makes no sense to me. You were tossing that egg around with the badly 3D printed leaves roughly, and now one qi blast to the *same exact area* and her child is dead? WTH. Makes no sense.
Honestly, They had 40 episode limit. They 100% could have delivered the ending they wanted. I would have added 2 episodes to the front. One to establish the shift from instructor-student to romance. And one episode to make maybe some excuses for why they left the academy they spent some episodes on but suddenly forgot about.
And to the back end, 2 episodes. One episode to establish the Nirvana promise and then maybe a fall from it, and then another to establish a better cohesive ending. Such as--what happened to Tao? Did YY's brother reincarnate?
Even without 40 episodes, it was paced weirdly.
Graphics were gorgeous and I didn't fault the acting, though the Heavenly Empress probably out acted YY and the Emperor quite a bit. I really liked some of her interpretations, though subtle.
But the directing and writing were just not clicking together.
Might be better to wait for Love You Seven Times. I read the novel and they easily can cram that into 40 episodes and have a pretty solid roadmap.
Not everyone agrees with why they like this drama or hate it, but are you going to go as far as to police that too?
