Article K-Dramas Losing Their Charm: Myth or Reality?
None of the points you made are untrue, yet I really think its the constant consumption of kdrama content that makes all these other points much more of a reason to be put off by kdramas. All of these issues occur in all entertainment industries, they are not unique to kdramas. The over saturation of kdramas is not unique to kdramas, as western platforms are investing in all sorts of foreign content (Indian drama/films being the other big hitter) in recent years. It's just as kdrama enthusiasts, we've now reached an excessive level of consumption, which is on us, the viewer, because all these platforms make it so easy to binge watch. I took a break from kdramas after Marry My Husband because none the others since then really peaked my interest enough to stick with them. Instead, I started watching shows that I missed out on/ never even knew about despite them having a cult following (one of them being Love All Play - what a sleeper hit imo), and started to watch Cdramas to find some interesting stories. Although Cdramas have their own issues of over saturation and over use of tropes, one of the better ones I watched was Fake it Till You Make It, & it probably beats any kdrama for me this year (the chemistry and natural, age appropriate romance is something I haven't seen in a long time). However I know if I stick to watching too many cdramas, I'm going to have the same fatigue I felt about kdramas earlier this year. So I'm trying to be very picky with what I pick up to watch. I've recently started two new kdramas (Good Partner, Love Next Door) and I'm enjoying them again. It's not hitting like that cdrama did yet, but I have higher hopes for these than some other kdramas I tried out.
