good story, good cast, good music, good visuals. overall a pretty good drama. the downside is that the logic can be somewhat stretched at times.
for example, for her to not care about her one and only son is rather illogical. the utter lack of motherly instinct even after she knows the truth is a huge plot hole. this is in contrast to all of the other motherly figures in the drama who would be in tears over their child.
the other weakness is the excessive drama. too much tears and blood vomiting. kinda gets too repetitive.
I made it to 15 but it was a struggle- I just don't care enough. It is sad when you like the FL interacting with…
i can tell u that second half is trash compared to the first half. gets kinda stupid at the end. i feel like the guy writing the script was rushing it and didn't really pay attention to details.
I might be one of the few viewers who liked this movie better than the drama. Predominantly because of Crystal…
i actually had to watch the drama after this movie to actually understand all of the details in this movie. the movie deserves a better score than the drama. the story is more logical and fluid. the drama series had plot holes and utterly stupid or unexplained decisions. that being said, this movie's plot is not obvious for someone watching it the first time.
barely acceptable. the script isnt that good, although the core part of the story matches closely to the original lore. its hard to understand what exactly is the director trying to get the audience to watch,
an interesting and unique story. good amount of humor. fun.
although there are 2 things i m not sure if i understood properly. the first is when he got dumped and the 2nd is the ending. i m quite curious who did it at the end.
its a pretty good overall package. no glaring weakness. although the movie kind of moved further away from original Painted Skin story.
the true essence of Painted Skin is to illustrate what is real vs what is fake. to illustrate the need to appreciate those who is truly faithful and worthy. that is true beauty in the original story, unfortunately that did not get carried over into this movie.
Can I see it on any other platform other than we tv ...I don't have vip membership.
ah..... its a 2020 movie... so not sure if theres an official translation for it yet. its also an online movie with low production budget. so the chances of an official sub might be low.
usually when a movie does well, it might get picked up by a publisher in the West, which presumably will pay for the translation costs.
as an example, White Snake 2019 (movie) released in Jan 2019 in China and eventually got translated and released in USA in Nov 2019. and White Snake had a box office of $65M USD, which is massive for a low budget film. most online films will not reach 1/10 of that amount.
gotta give a lotta respect to the film makers for being able to deliver such quality products in micro budgets, likely under $1M USD per film.
HOLY SMOKES What is wrong what all the.... FANGs and FENGs???FANG qiwuFENG renFENG qinan FENGAgree with some comments…
seem pretty straight forward to me. FANG Qiwu is the governess, she went back in time to possess Hong Luan. She was also the thief to stole the original music score.
FENG Ren is the prince who lead the assault. he used the alias Nan Feng FENG Qi is brother of FENG Ren. FENG is their family name.
Nan Yingmeng does not physically exist, hence it was impossible to possess her body. Her name came from Ying Meng or Music Dream, the name of the music that FANG Qiwu composed. Her creation came from Nan Feng's (aka Feng Ren) memory of the Hong Luan he once knew during those 10 days, which suddenly disappeared like a vanishing dream.
its cute. its good all round. but falls short of great. story is nice but short of great. final fight scene is meh. Guo Jing Fei played his role well. love the final song though.
i never watched the drama series, which seem to make this story almost impossible to comprehend. i mean... i get what they are saying per se, but it makes little sense and the plot feel really hard coded and unnatural. the story and script is by far the weakest element here.
aside from this, the visual elements are good, except the CGI portion is bad. music is good. acting is fair game.
would have been a much better movie if they simply did a better job telling the story and explaining as oppose to ramming everything down the throat for the audience to "just take it".
never watched the other shows in this IP, so i watched it as a standalone. its just an OK movie in my eyes. everything from story, script, acting etc have flaws.
its not an awful movie, but nothing memorable about it either.
the choice of the male lead protagonist is a bit weird. his looks doesnt seem to fit the role. feels cringy at times. i feel like he should switch roles with the antagonist.
It is so confusing, I don’t understand. Are different actors playing different roles in each drama/movie? I…
i suggest you think of this as a completely standalone movie. i never watched the other novoland shows and had no issues understanding the plot. i think its pretty straight forward.
its a great story. the main thing to watch for here is: who exactly is responsible for her death. and the answer to that question is truly impressive. speaks volume about society and humanity.
like most Liao Zhai movies, i am watching it for the story and nothing else. in terms of scripting, fight scenes and CGI, its meh.
parts of the story felt awkward and out of place, but i really like the role they had the wife play during all this time. truly followed the essence in many Liao Zhai stories.
it really reminds ppl that sometimes the things you so desperately seek isnt exactly that far away. you just have to look with your eyes open.

its an OK movie overall. FL is actually pretty, but the ML looks like a boy.
trivia: the male character name Chang Sheng translates to long life or longevity. as was his intended purpose.

decent movie for a low budget production.

there are 2 parts, so click on the 2nd part after u finished the first half.

wouldn't call this a great movie but above average for sure.
