I love ZLH in The Princess Royal and wanted to checked out more of his shows. Coincidentally, I also just watched The Double so this made me watch it more bc of WXY but then I saw who plays the fl. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Su Rongqing is the type of character that's written just like Shen Yurong from The Double that failed to be. For Shen Yurong I felt sympathy, rage, and despondency. Even in his disgusting and low moments I feel for him. But for Su Rongqing I felt nothing. The flashbacks I felt something but in the present timeline nothing. I can't even feel pity. He's just there. I wish they could've done something more with his character.

Watching this after The Double. And I love both equally but it's very obvious that this show's script/writing…
Bro... I read a summary of the novel... And the reason why the Crown Prince was written so well was because he was literally the Murong JingHe of the novel ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I cannot ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ Everything about MRJH of the novel was redone and gave the material to the Crown Prince instead ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ idkw anyone says MRJH drama is so much better than the novel even if the script isn't written so well..

Watching this after The Double. And I love both equally but it's very obvious that this show's script/writing is not as strong as The Double. Thankfully it got carried by every casts acting and the visuals.

I read somewhere in the comments that this show has a potential to be bigger than it is but it lacks something. And that is the story.

A lot of plotholes that honestly doesn't make sense. Inconsistent pacing, Mei Lin's switch up on JingHe being a good guy came out of nowhere. The same thing with General Yin to the Crown Prince.

But even with a lot of downs it also has ups that made me still want to watch it.

I read that it has a novel where Murong JingHe is literally a redflag, and I honestly prefer the drama version as he has a lot more depth and backstory. He was never evil. He was force to be cruel because the world was cruel to him. It makes more sense as he was a spoiled prince with a empress birthmother. Being a redflag ml contradicts with his character.
The only thing his character lacks (writing) is probably how he is in the court. In the beginning he came out strong. But against the CP he is nothing without the emperor's favor. He's not as smart as he seems to be too but force to believe he is. That why there's this polarizing feeling to his character.

Now for the fl. It's a bit eh about how easily she was moved by the ml. I would've liked it more if she showed a little bit of hesitance working with him and through time she could see the real him in candid moments. Because before the village arc it was all an act. And before that he was still a dick, and yet just a few words that she heard she was convinced he is good... when he did nothing to prove that. And the first time he did a good thing, she misunderstands the situation.

I guess the writers probably started in the middle because the hunt arc to the end was immaculate although they probably only had romance/relationship progression in mind for how messy the other stuff aside it

The only consistent character in the show was the Crown Prince. He's written really well. Probably because he's the only character from the novel that they didn't change much. (Probably idk, cmiiw)

All in all, if you want a revenge plot watch just watch The Double (the revenge plot is more elaborate and the schemes are cleaner) if you want romance where two tortured souls burdened by their past meets each other and learning how to love (again) then this is your show.

I'm still in ep 29 but damn. Out of all the villains the only one I felt bad the most was Ruyao. She was never…
Ok. I'm in the last ep and not that I take it back but I want to retract that actually every villains in this show is written so well. They have a good backstory that didn't erased who they're now in the present.

I really felt bad for SYR because in a sense he was force to things he didn't want to do. But with Wanning's pov in the end just like what XFF said he did have a choice and he was a coward for not admitting the wrong choices that he did and kept blaming others. He let Wanning do that to him. She was not that heartless imo. She saw that flicker of darkness in him and she took it as a chance to change their lives forever.

And let's not get started with Wanning. I felt so bad for her. She did a lot of bad things but the only moment she had felt seen, sincerity, and normalcy she became obsessed with it.

And don't get me started me started with Ji Shuran. I cried in her arc. She has probably the saddest love story. While Wanning has the saddest story.

As for XFF, she really is one of the best fl I've ever watch so far. I wanna say that Duke Su save her a lot of times but I like that they made it like a transaction, a 'you scratch my back I'll scratch yours' instead of Duke Su being so head over heals for her and she's a damsel in distress, because she wasn't.
What happened to her would really fucked someone up but out of everyone here I would say she's one of the people that got a lighter misfortune. And she was smart and wise to not let it get over her head and instead focused on her goal.

I'm really finishing this series but I want to rewatch again. It's that good.

I'm still in ep 29 but damn. Out of all the villains the only one I felt bad the most was Ruyao. She was never evil or cruel, she was just spoiled. A naive girl being hidden and force to perform what everyone around her wanted her to do. She was high and mighty because she was taught she can and she will. If you look at her in a teenager lense her actions are understandable. You would think because she's spoiled that she gets whatever she wants but it's actually the opposite. Her mother gives her whatever luxury and expects her to be thankful even if she never wishes for it. That feeling is the worst. Hope she won't stray unlike her mother. I hope she'll have a better future and to know better.

on episode 32 and I still haven't felt the romantic chemistry between the leads. They just seem like partners…
I would agree in the beginning it was more like Duke Su toying with XFF but in the later parts when they went to Luyang is when it started blooming for me. Slowburns are typically like this unlike the will-they-wont-they trope where there's constant back n forth flirting.
