Shi Wen

Really one of the best Chinese dramas I’ve ever watched! It feels quite different to other recent historical dramas that have been trending, in part due to its slower pacing and dark filter/aesthetic feel. Went in not sure if I would enjoy it, but it’s the type that gets better and better as you watch more. Some scenes may feel like a bit of a bore, but I think the director and team has done great in maintaining a consistent good quality, whether visually or plot wise. OMG. A big part of my investment in the drama comes from Ye Li’s story and her relationships with the people on the mountain. It’s like piecing together a puzzle. Halfway in and I’m invested in the FL + ML and how they support each other. Their chemistry is so natural and layered. Even the supporting characters are great and I’ve grown to love them. No one really sticks out like a sore thumb, such as being evil solely for the sake of being evil. The cast’s performances have really added to the solid and immersive world building. Hoping the later eps and ending is not too bad as I saw some comments about it ><
