I watched it way back since a lot of people were raving about it but i dunno, it felt like i expected too much? personally, i thought the cinematics were good but, as for the storyline, yes it's dark but it seems overly romanticized? I do appreciate dark stories but this one felt too emo and a bit forced for me. It reminds me of the feeling I get when watching a music video of an emo band in the 90s. I don't really get the hype lol
Sawajiri's acting here is really intense. I felt like she poured all her emotions in this film since it was her comeback movie that time. This was one of the few dark films that I like and could bear.
This is exactly my type of story / genre. Unique, nostalgic, mundane, inspirational.. These elements are what makes Jmovies / Jdramas comforting to me. Great plot, acting.
I'm quite moody with genres like this so I only watch such when I'm ready lol. But, so far, I like the story, the cinematics and the use of colors. And it gives me a glimpse on how J-actors perceive social media. Although almost every character here looks pretty open with the usual taboos in Japan. Makes me question how true does this drama reflect the reality of the Japanese entertainment industry.
I'm not really into this kind of stories but I watched it for Minami lol. I think her acting here will surprise you from the usual roles she play. It's impressive enough but it's Aoi Morikawa who usually steals the scene/s for me. It's that typical theatrical acting. Not that it's something bad but worth noting that not everyone could appreciate such genres.
Even if I love Minami and Masaki individually, I felt like this was overhyped on Twitter lol. Still, I like the story and their cute pairing although, to me, it was that typical comedic duo Jdrama stories.
I personally think both Minami and Masaki really excel in comedy. They're quite natural at it. I also appreciate how Minami could match well with her senior costar. Both her and Masaki's expressions are really on point with their characters.
If I were to pick one memorable thing about this drama, it's episode 6. It was really good! The screenplay is especially commendable. This one episode is something I could hype XD
Now let's guess who will play the daughter.Edit: You gotta be kidding me. In all fairness, Hamabe is already way,…
This comment sounded like it's spurted more out of hate rather than legit criticism. I gotta agree her agency trying to overpush her doesn't sit well with me too. But to say her acting isn't competent against her costars and her asadora would be a disaster? She isn't the best but she's not that bad? Lots of older popular actresses weren't even as good as she is at her current age. You're probably basing your judgment on the type of characters or projects she chose compared to others and that's not a fair comparison if you are to judge her overall. But yeah, you're free to make conclusion about her potential already just because of hearsays, your own insecurities and all.
This is another Japanese drama that makes no sense, with poor story and overacting.. it just seems silly and low…
Why sound so sour? It's not the the best but to compare it with kdrama mystery? really? This is more of a light comedy genre than mystery, actually. It seems based on manga plus it's japanese type of humor so expect that it won't be realistic at all? The story has its own targeted audience in mind, it just so happens you're not part of the target. I don't even understand why you seem to have forced yourself watching this.
Thank you for this article, very insightful! Interesting to learn about her earlier works which are not known in most sites.
Actually, I first watched her in 'I want to eat your pancreas' but, at that time, I still wasn't a fan. It's Watadou that had drawn me to her. Even if the drama was like a soap opera, what stood out for me was her acting and voice. I just love listening to her. And her eyes... As Tsubaki would put it, "I love the intensity of your eyes." LOL I could really see where Tsubaki is coming from.
And yes, I looked her up and began watching her other works like (currently) Talio, Kakegurui, Alibi, Hotel on a Brink, etc. Her choice of projects kinda suit my taste. Not much shoujo manga and she seems to be more into mystery and other kinds of LA. Now I understand how it's Kakegurui that changed her. She really is something as Jabami. She's also pretty charming, naturally cute, and seems approachable as a person. I love the way she presents herself and her unpretentious vibe.
Anyway, sorry for the long reaction. I just learned to love her so much haha!!!
